To be fair, judging bourbon outside of Kentucky is like judging tacos outside of Texas. It's just not a fair fight. Still, 1861 clearly has a loyal following. Belly up to the bar and you'll find a mix of locals and regulars. My wife found a juniper infused gin that she enjoyed. I found the bourbons needed an ice chip or two to "soften" the edge. I'd never tried quinoa or sorghum bourbon. Surprisingly drinkable. The rum was buttery and the rye wasn't as sweet as some I've tried. Can't really comment on the food, as 1861 only serves food during lunch and closes the kitchen until 5pm. Get there at happy hour, and you can find on a bag of chips. For non-drinkers there's a wide variety of drinks to enjoy. 1861 is the Starbucks of Shirley temples. All in all, 1861 is a solid stop in Thomasville.

Some friends and I were in Thomasville for Victorian Christmas and stopped in for lunch and a drink at 1861. We had seen their booth the night before and one of the staff gave us free sample cards. We were already planning on going but this just leveled-up the idea. The inside is absolutely beautiful with bar seating and several areas with couches and chairs as well as another room which had a private event (Christmas party) going on. Jessica was our bartender and she was absolutely wonderful. She explained everything to us and chatted with us since we had more than just questions about the menu. We all got at least one cocktail and my BF got the whiskey flight. I had never tried quinoa or sorghum whiskey before so I was excited the most to try those two. All six varieties were excellent, some of the better craft distilled spirits I've tried. Aside from whiskey I tried the sugar cookie vodka and it was delicious! I'm not a big vodka fan but I kind of regret not buying a bottle to take home. I could have sipped on that all day! Jessica also let us try their amaretto which was also fantastic, regret not getting a bottle of that as well. We all got food as well as our libations, everyone enjoyed their lunches. I got The Sherwin with the tomato soup, a couple people got the tacos which came recommended and my BF got the pulled pork sandwich. Overall, 1861 Distilling was one of the highlights of our trip in my opinion! I guess we're just going to have to drive the 3.5 hours again and come back for another visit!

Very cute vibes! I'm so happy my hometown has gotten such a unique establishment. Every time I come home, I definitely plan to visit. Their drinks are well crafted, and the distillery's content is great quality.

Ive been a few times since it's opened and it's been great for every visit. It was such a nice addition to Thomasville. A lot of people were worried about it being off of Broad Street but I think people will have no problem making their way over. I've had the rum punch, matcha meadows, mojito, and strawberry basil smash and I loved all of them. Their house made vodka and rum is really well done. Aside from their drinks their staff is super nice and friendly, the decor is beautiful and cozy, and they sell really cute drinkware, bar ware, books, etc. I'm super excited for them to roll out their gin! I look forward to coming back again!

We had a terrific experience at 1861. The place is decorated beautifully and has a terrific vibe about it. The bartender, Jenna, was on spot with cocktails, humorous personality and interesting information about the distillery. Hopefully you will catch her at the bar. Don't be in a rush, the cocktails are hand crafted and worth the wait. The cucumber Gin Gimlet was delicious!

Stop what your doing and come here. When I walk in the door I feel like I'm in Cheers. Everyone greets me, makes you feel welcome. The spirits they distill are the best. Drinks are wonderful, not watered down. Love their soups and sandwiches. The atmosphere is cozy. Wednesday night trivia is challenging and the live music Thursday is always entertaining.
