Tl;dr it looks like the shop doesn't really care about the cars or customers that come into the…read moreshop. Attempts to discuss were met with indifference. In February, my car's transmission had seemingly developed an issue all of a sudden. I looked online based on the symptoms and we looked at what the common issues were. We saw the breather valve on this make/model would become clogged, so we cleaned the valve thoroughly and topped off the transmission fluid. I then opted to take the conservative path forward and wanted to bring it to Adavnce Transmission to let them inspect the transmission and make sure everything was good. The car had close to 190k miles on this transmission and I understand things don't last forever. I talked to both the woman at the front and one of the mechanics and explained everything that had occured with great detail and specifically asked for the transmission to be dropped, inspected, and look for any issues, warnings, or concerns that they might find. I picked up the car on the following Monday. "We cleaned the breather valve and brought the transmission fluid levels to the correct level. Nothing wrong with the transmission at all. The mechanic was surprised how good the transmission was especially after seeing how many miles were on it. You can pick up your car when you're ready." 28 days later. I'm driving to work at 4am, while driving up a small hill the car loses all gears. Thankfully, I was close the peak of the hill and was able to coast down to gas station and safely park while waiting for a tow truck and a ride. Once parked, the car had transmission oil dripping out from it. It was clear there was a leak. I called the shop as soon as they opened and explained what the car had experienced that morning. I requested the transmission be looked over, to see where the leak was coming from and any other indicators of what happened and if it was salvageable. Shortly after getting confirmation the car made it to the shop from the towing company, the same woman at the front of the shop called and said "the mechanic says your transmission is just dead." I mentioned that just 28 days prior they told me everything was great. How could it go from great to dead in such a short time? "The transmissions can just go out, without any warnings or signs sometimes. You can either pay $7,000 for a new transmission plus labor or pick up your car whenever you're ready." Obviously, I've shortened this call but the same indifference was shared throughout the 5-7 minute call. I had the car towed to another mechanic. What he found shows the level of indifference the mechanics had for the car, and the shop's desires to sweep things under the rug: He first filled the transmission with transmission fluid to see where the leak was coming from. He let it sit for 3 days then lifted the car. One of the transmission sensors was loose, not even hand tight. He inspected it, then tightened it down to spec, and refilled the transmission again. 3 more days, no more leaks. He then started the car up. It's now been several days and there hasn't been any issues of leaking or of the transmission being dead. If you want to spend thousands of dollars to fix an issue they may have created, take your transmission issues to Advance Transmission. If you want honest work on your vehicle, you'll have to go somewhere else.

As a person who has had more than my share of car damage, I have dealt with plenty of body shops. It is no understatement that the treatment I received by Jeff at Fender Mender was absolutely extraordinary in the best possible way. From the time that I was greeted, Jeff took time with me to make sure I felt welcome and at home. He explained the options for my car repair extremely thoroughly. He even provided me with questions and considerations should I go somewhere else. He graciously offered to speak to the folks who were responsible for the damage to explain the costs and the "why" behind what he was doing. He understands that the investment that we made in our vehicle was a sacrifice and one that we did not want a bad patch/paint job to mar our enjoyment and daily reminder of the accident. Every step of the way he was communicative and clear...from proactively calling me first thing Monday morning to let me know that our overnight drop off went well...all the way to delivering the car two days earlier than what was expected. I would have no reservations on sending my wife/children here to get service. Regardless of your comfort with auto-body repairs, Jeff takes the time to make you feel welcome and explains his process excellently. I am grateful for the recommendations I received to go to Fender Mender and I hope to never need auto body work again.... but in the likely chance I do, Jeff will be my first call. I didn't hear anything so I called at the end of the day on Wednesday (no one called me) and I was told that there was a back up and my car hadn't gotten on the lift. I then called on Thursday to get an update and was told that someone would get back to me. Someone finally called and said that I would have to pay an additional $100 for "more testing", and that they didn't "think" it was the transmission and was probably the catalytic converter. I agreed and then called back on Friday and was told that it hadn't happened yet and that someone would get back to me. The following Monday, I reached out to see what was happening and was told that the shop had just opened (it had been opened for almost an hour - and it's Monday, the day the 2 work-day-a-week diagnostician was supposed to be there, but whatever) and that someone would get back to me by the end of the day to give me an update. Once again, no update by the end of the day and no call on Tuesday morning. So I ended up going down, found out that the "additional" testing hadn't happened (they obviously didn't charge me for that). I ended up having the car towed somewhere else. The gentleman at the front desk explained that there was a back-up, etc., but the fact that there was almost zero communication is pretty unacceptable when you've had someone's car for a week. Communication is key and I honestly would have been happy with a text notification - the customer shouldn't be the one reaching out constantly for information. BTW, the new shop called me about 20 min after I dropped the car off and will have it ready at 2pm.
