From butternut squash with goat cheese to Asian pork belly, every bite was unbelievable. The spiced rum mojitos were perfectly portioned and muffled and the desserts were a perfect ending to the meal. The staff made my day and I couldn't have asked for a better dinner experience during my one night in Lichfield. Do I recommend it? Without question and I can't wait to come back one day and share with others. This restaurant is perfection.

The Angel Inn is a solid traditional pub in Lichfield city centre, affiliated with Joule's Brewing…read more The company's beers are advertised in many different forms all over the pub and; unsurprisingly, almost all of the beers on tap are from that same brewer (Joule's Pale Ale, Slumbering Monk, Pre Blonde, etc). The décor is very familiar (all dark wood, intentionally kept rustic). The medium-sized pub is divided into several different niches, and there's a small smoking/vaping area to the side. It's very appealing if you dig this traditional style. The barman on my visit was friendly enough, the beer I chose (Ludlow's The Boiling Well) was fresh and tasty. Nothing truly special about The Angel Inn, but it's certainly a fine place to hang out for a couple of pints if you want to avoid more modern brew pubs like the nearby Brewhouse & Kitchen.

The place has a great feeling about it as soon as you walk in, the waiting on staff are impeccably dressed and nothing is too much trouble. The inside of the cafe is just as impressive as on the outside, with the walls clad in dark wood, adorned with the occasional historical picture or tapestry. It is quite a spacious place, with a good variety of tables and seating, for smaller and larger parties; a minibus load of people came in when we were there. Menu wise, a huge variety from the homemade cakes like Bara brith, Millionaires Shortbread, Victoria Sponge, that sat temptingly in glass domes on a sideboard near to our table, to snacks like toast, sandwiches, teacakes etc. There was also a comprehensive range of cooked meals, like lasagne, chilli etc. Drinks wise, again a vast range of speciality teas, coffees and wine. Pity it was only mid-morning when we visited or we might have been tempted to sample more than just toast off the menu! The inside is wooden and rustic in a quite trendy way and, although we didn't eat, the restaurant section looked pleasant too, with a reasonable amount of diners for a Wednesday evening. There was a good selection of drinks available and the bar staff were very professional, making sure the right glasses were selected for the beer, gin and soft drinks we ordered. Slice of cucumber in my gin and lemon tonic- very nice! I loved the outdoor seating, especially as it was a no smoking area! Only downside is the noise from the road, although the design of the benching is well planned to mask it. Will definitely return to eat at some point.

I was a little surprised when we were seated in the middle of the restaurant when there were still window tables available and the reservation was made weeks in advance requesting a table by the window. Service was really slow. It took almost 20 minutes before someone even came to our table. Since we were pre-booked they know we were here for Tea Time. We skipped the tea and went straight for the 2 for 1 cocktails offered everyday until 6. A nice tiered presentation of assorted little sandwiches, scones and desserts eventually showed up at the table. The food was good and so was the French Martini I had. It's just too bad. The service was absolutely horrible. It took forever to get the check and no one even checked on us the entire time we were there.

A wide variety of tempting menu items left us spoilt for choice. Personally I had the ribeye steak, asked for medium, and it was spot on. The steak itself was a little lacking (I suspect the quality of the meat) - ideal "done-ness" and OMG the green peppercorn sauce was to die for. Ice cream was excellent. We will DEFINITELY be going back, I will choose something tempting other than steak and I fully expect a FIVE star experience and rating :) Two thumbs up for sure!!

There are deals available based on how many courses you have and a lunch time deal. Whilst the food was well cooked, it appears to have lost its flavour. I tried the thai crab balls for my starter and I found them quite bland. However, my dining companion seemed to really enjoy their wyagu beefburger. The main course portions had increased in size and this is not always a good sign. I wouldn't order a mint tea again as it was served in a glass with no handle. In addition to this, it was a PG Tipps teabag which you wouldn't expect in this type of restaurant particularly when there are so many specialist tea companies to choose from. Whilst the customer service was good overall, the staff were not particularly attentive. It took some effort to get their attention to order more drinks despite being sat near their station by the kitchen. We were also given the bill instead of the after dinner drink that we ordered.
