DO NOT STAY HERE. I was overcharged a $285 fee for my stay on 1/13/24. I was told while I was checking out the following morning that my guest had broken another room's window two rooms down from where we were staying. They mentioned that they have video proof that it was my guest and that I would be charged an additional $250 fee. I said that I want to see the video proof before being charged and they agreed to send it to me. The following day I was not charged $250, but rather $285, and I never received anything from them besides a copy of my credit card receipt. It is now 3/2/24 and I've called 7 times to speak with a manager. Each time I've called I've spoken with someone from the front desk that's taken my name and phone number, and says that they will pass my information on to a manager. I've never heard back from a manager. But I just now received a call back from the front desk person that I spoke with a few minutes ago and she said that they're not going to go through the video footage and share it with me. She said that she personally saw it happen and that it's in a police report. This is news to me... so I then said that I'd like a copy of this police report that they have outlining witness statements and she said she'd have to ask her manager and that he'll get back to me. In the meantime, I will be reporting this hotel to the BBB and I will continue to post regular updates regarding this issue. read more

Location, great. BUT - It seems this hotel is run by a absentee owners. They do not have their 'stuff' together. We got there after booking on Expedia. Well over $400 with parking/tax etc.. and arrived into the parking lot beneath the hotel. No signage of any kind was in the garage, so I ascended the staircase to find rooms. Just rooms. No office or lobby. So I went back down and found the door on the street, which indicates there is no office/lobby, and to go to the lobby of the neighboring Holiday Inn. I went there where I was checked in and given a key. (An actual key not digital key-card.) I then walked back to the hotel, and up the stairs again with our luggage. The key wouldn't open the door as I was directly following the directions printed on a sticker on the glass of the door next to the keyhole. So I walked back down the stairs and over to the Holiday Inn again, where I was told "yeah it's tricky, someone will come to help." Now back to the hotel and up the stairs again, where someone came and turned the key in the opposite of the directions on the door and TOWARD the deadbolt/door-frame and it unlocked. (The opposite of all doors and the instructions printed on the door.) Great. The only problem was, when I opened the door the room was occupied and filled with peoples belongings! (Which I have read on other's reviews that this is commonplace here.) So- Back down the stairs, and over the the Holiday Inn for a third time to get the "correct" room key. Yep, back up the stairs again to the new room which opened and was empty. (phew.) I'm sweating at this point, but happy to have a nice room. (which it is) HOWEVER: Things that are missing- A DO NOT DISTURB SIGN. What if what I just did to someone happens to me? What if someone is given a key to my room while I'm gone and steals something? BOTH keys should be given to whomever checks into a room. 2nd thing missing: A DEADBOLT OR LATCH on the inside of the door for security. Lastly, The intake air filter of the A/C system was so filthy and clogged the A/C could barely cool the room in 4-5 hours time. The shower also has (probably a Laguna thing) a water saver installed, so the shower experience sucks. NOTE TO FUTURE GUESTS: FYI There is a massive skylight on the ceiling which you cannot shade or cover at all/ Same with the glass door. So you are flooded with sunlight as soon as it rises! Hope you like waking up early! Positive: There is a BBQ grill on the common deck which had I KNOWN about I might have utilized. There is also a trolley that runs all around Laguna with a stop not far from the garage of the hotel. The Trolley system has an app that tracks the trolley's movement for easily getting around town without driving. NOT THAT THERE WAS ANYONE AT THE HOTEL TO RECOMMEND THIS OR EVEN MENTION THAT IT EXISTS?!!) I wish ownership would step up and be a little more informative and 'on-it' and I would stay there again, and again. However, for the price I paid and the experience I got , I probably will not. read more

Interesting.... This place felt more like an apartment or home away from home- and that's not a bad thing! I booked through a third party website- I arrived to the location around 5pm. The parking isn't very visible but it's right on the main Street. When I arrived the office was closed, so I called the number for 24 hour service and asked how to check-in ? I was lost and confused lol. She informed me to check my text messages and instructions would be listed. Very convenient , I was told to park anywhere & that the keys to my room were in a lock safe attached to my door. I received a text message with the Code to open the box, that contained my room keys- the wifi password and the code for the gate. The inside of my room was very modern & cozy. I love this place because it is very private. I stay at hotels very often because of business - and going in & out having to walk by front desk all the time is pretty awkward. This place you park, and you don't have to deal with any non sense. They have a jacuzzi as well, open all night. It's very quiet everyone is very respectful of each other. This is home away from home. The rooms are equipped with a kitchenette, fireplace - awesome fast Wifi! They windows are perfect for allowing in alot of sunlight! They have large soaking bathtubs and rainfall shower heads. Their memory foam beds are delicious to sleep for hours undisturbed. I love this place, truly a gem. Make sure you stop in! read more

This is the place to stay if you are in the Laguna Beach area. It is in the heart of everything so you can pretty much walk everywhere (traffic can get UGLY so this is definitely a plus). The hotel in itself is gorgeous. The setup is a little odd... you pull through the gate to the garage and you walk up the stairs from the garage to the top where all the rooms are. But as soon as you walk up, it takes your breath away. The hotel can be a little difficult to find, but it is just a few doors down the Holiday Inn. The rooms are modern and clean. Great staff, too. Update: Management contacted me and actually apologized for this whole experience. They offered me a refund which was very generous. Explained that they have been transitioning with a bunch of new staff, which they said for themselves is no excuse but I just wanted them to see these issues to fix for future guest. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments and try to fix this. I do appreciate it. I hope one day to be back it is a very cute hotel located right next to the beach and in the center of all the art galleries and shops so it has a lot of potential just needs to work on cleanliness. Omit did apologize and did the best he could considering there wasn't a manager on site and you could tell he didn't really know what he was doing. I know it wasn't his fault I just wish he could have been a bit more helpful. I think his attitude came from my energy, was trying to be nice but was just extremely upset. Avoid at all cost. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. They give us a room that isn't even clean. The sheets are covered in other people's hairs, food stains, crumbs. The walls are covered in stains. We call to ask for new sheets they say oh the house keepers have left but we can bring sheets up for you to put on yourself. They give us sheets that do not fit the bed. We had a king they give us queen. Then tell me that those are the only sheets they have and they have nothing else. Extremely disappointed. Omit was very kind at first initial visit but when I brought all this to his attention he was extremely unhelpful. Gave attitude as if this is my fault they don't know how to clean rooms in the middle of a pandemic. Absolutely disgusting. Can't stress this enough. Do not go. Wasn't even going to offer a different room or money back or anything was expected to sleep on some dirty sheets. I had to ask to be move because it was late and they moved us to a Holiday Inn room at which I did not want to stay in at all. Paid for a unpleasant experienced. Okay, So we almost didn't stay here because I read some misleading reviews that made me think twice. Luckily, we did. So here goes. The tub is about 1 1/2- 2ft tall, it's a soaking tub! I'm 5'2!!! If I can get in and out I'm sure most of you can too! They don't have blackout curtains, but they do have a shade which may seem unusable because the cord has a knot and is not all the way down when you first enter the room. But you can easily untie the knot, roll down the shade, and tie the knot again. Also, a lot of natural sunlight does come in through the rough as they have two glass panels one in the room and one in the restroom. If you're not okay with this or if sunlight awakes you, you might want to invest in an eye mask. That was my only dislike. Oh in regards to the fridge, you just have to adjust the temperature inside the fridge and it'll get cool. Everything worked properly. Loved that they had a parking garage. We were two blocks from downtown. Would definitely come back. read more

This place is mid! The prices are insane for what you get. Staff had promised parking arrangements before arrival but once we got there they just made my sisters wedding day much more stressful than it needed to be, seriously no help at all! My brothers 400 hundred dollar hotel room had broken air conditioning and ended up blowing 87 degrees of HOT air the entire night with no way of turning it off. 14 West has two building - South and North, and there is a huge misrepresentation about hotel in general! South part is a DUMP! Be aware! it is like a motel 6 - absolutely disgusting! This is definitely one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. It isn't a chain hotel which I like. The location is great. It's near a few restaurants, a grocery store, and the beach. With the kitchenette located in the room and the nearby grocery store having snacks, drinks, etc in the room is very easy and convenient. Some of the other reviews stated they didn't see staff. I did not experience this. Staff is not on site 24/7, but I did see them during the day. Also, there is a number available if there are any issues after hours. My only complaint with the room is that the cable box was located in the closet. So in order to change channels from the bed in front of the tv, a person has to sit on the edge of the bed and try to aim the remote at the box in the closet. Not easy. read more

Just finished an amazing stay with 14 West! I did look at the "mixed" reviews before booking. Before you book, be sure to look closely at the website. There are two buildings to this hotel, the North building and the South building. The South building is the "former" Holiday Inn. I stayed in the North Building, which is next door to the Holiday Inn. Check-in was seamless, and completed at the "South" building. Parking is $17 per night. The room rate is reasonable for the area. If you stay on the North side, parking is under the building. The location of the hotel is ideal. The main beach, shops/restaurants, is about an 8 minute walk. There is also beach access just across the street and downstairs. The rooms are dated, but nicely equipped. I stayed in room #8, which had a balcony, fireplace, kitchenette, and everything you need to enjoy your stay. There is a Ralphs right across the street, so I was able to stock the refrigerators with healthy foods. There is no housekeeping services due to COVID, but the front desk was available for anything you needed. **Be aware that getting into your room with the room key is tricky. You need to turn the key all the way towards the right and push the door in. (This was weird, but I figured it out). Overall, I would definitely stay here again. This was a nice solo get-away for a couple of days, and I felt completely safe. My husband and I are already talking about coming back! read more

I'm not sure where to start because there's so many good things to say about this hotel... I travel quite a bit for work and have been in Laguna for two weeks now, from LA. I've stayed at about 4 different hotels at this point (booking was last minute) - this hotel topped each one. I'm not kidding, it's a great price for the quality and standard of the rooms. I genuinely hope that for the rest of my stay in Laguna I can book this hotel, I seriously love it and am coming back to 14 west iLaguna for my birthday with friends. I love this place, and honestly I think there's a few things to note: - the hotel does have multiple properties and the one with the 14 west lobby / sign is pretty small in size (probably 12 rooms total?) - there isn't an elevator so lug your shit upstairs or please stay somewhere else so I can come back - the lobby doors lock about once it starts to get dark, if you walk through the parking structure there is a door to the left to the office (the girl at the concierge let me know there's a lot of bars and restaurants in the area and sometimes drunk ppl can be a little too rowdy so she locks it for safety, do your thang boo) - there is a deck-like area with bbq's, those super cute half-circle patio chairs, Edison lights through the patio and each room gets its own little deck area - I wouldn't recommend this specific building for small children, the rooms are beautiful and definitely more contemporary than standard hotels (there's sharp corners, the floors are tile or laminate, lots of white, not huge but could comfortably fit 2-3 ppl) - this is legitimately about a 5-7 walk to the beach (if you know where to look). I also stayed at the hotel across the street (pacific edge - which was nice, but the rooms really don't compare). Pacific edge has direct access to a beach on the other side of the hotel, near the valet. There's two sets of stairs that are somewhat hidden but definitely worth exploring. - parking is $15 a night for hotel guests (I had to pay $34 at pacific edge -.-) - the room has a full kitchen set-up, minus an oven. It seriously has a mini sink, two mini fridges, I think a two-burner electric stove, and there's a Ralph's market at the corner. - lastly, this is right before the hilltop and is a pretty quick but nice walk down to the downtown side where all the restaurants and bars are primarily. The hotel also has a list of all kinds of kool shit to do in the area, including a list of happy hours and their respective places/times I'll stop. But seriously, if you're in the area - I would highly HIGHLY recommend staying here. Or don't, so I can have a guaranteed room lol. Ps - the beds are everythingg ppl talk about. read more

Stayed here recently the room was super nice exactly how it looks in pictures super clean and everything. The only downside was we had called ahead of time to see if we could get an early check in and they said it would be extra which we stayed in November this past year and no charges. Then we wanted to get a late check out we called the night before the guy working said call back in the morning so we called at 7am he answered again and said call back at 9 so we called back again and finally it was a different person and all they said was yeah we'll charge it to your card before we could even respond. read more

Nice concept, loved the room but the stairs are steep with no elevator and if you are a senior or disabled....think twice. No help offered with luggage. The nightlight was broken for reading on one side of the bed and the sheets were scratchy like the thread count was really low or laundered to many times and after several unsuccessful attempted calls to the Front desk. I finally called from my cell phone and then I was told phones out of service. Best about this hotel is location and contemporary decor. Very clean but I felt inconvenienced for a vacation and did not rest well with sheets. Book knowing what to ask for. read more

Very upset about my overall stay here. First, once you arrive and park in the garage there is no clear indicators or signs that say to check in next door at the holiday inn. How confusing? Luckily I saw another review that said that's was what to do but I can't imagine going in completely clueless. Checkin was rather simple. The ladies at the front desk were nice and got me set up. Our room was decent, fairly spacious and looked nice. Little kitchen with cutlery, dishes... the essentials. Here is where the problems start. First, while the tub is big, the water pressure sucks and takes FOREVER to actually fill it up decently (not even all the way). By the time the water fills up, even on the hottest setting, it's cold--- great. Went to take a shower, water pressure sucks annnnnd NO HOT WATER. You know it does have hot water though? The sink in our small kitchen that is leaking nothing but burning hot water. How does that even make sense? It really sucks taking a cold shower after going in the ocean that is freezing cold expecting to be able to relax and unwind and the water doesn't even get above lukewarm. The next day I wake up to find all of my expensive makeup, clothes, any and everything I had on the bathroom counter next to the sink RUINED. MAKEUP SOAKED, CLOTHES SOAKED--- because yet another(different) leak coming from the pipe in the sink. I'm so upset and heartbroken over the amount of makeup of mine that was ruined. $100s of dollars.... I want to make a claim. It gets better. I'm upset about my things when I get a call from a number I dont recognize. I decline. It calls me right back, I answer and am told a maintenance worker is on his way to my room to fix the broken water heater in our room. First, why the fuck am I in a room, paying full price with a broken water heater-- my stay was already effected due to this---second, as soon as she called I got a knock on the door- what kind of heads up is that. I was just getting into the shower, have no clothes on.... I'm like checkout is 11 am for us (accommodated late checkout day prior) why is there two men at my door asking to come in my room. If I were told in advance I wouldn't be mad but I was told seconds before they showed up. I told the worker on the phone to please have them come back later as I was naked and getting into the shower and they literally asked me again if I could just let them in anyways real quick. WHAT? I check out at this point in 1hr and they can't just wait? The worker on the phone said she was going to call the maintenance guy and ASK HIMMM if that worked. Him? Wow. During all of this my boyfriend, only wearing a fucking towel, is talking to the maintenance worker who is adamant he needs to get into our room really quickly to look at the part he needs for the BROKEN water heater and to take a look at the leaks. (We had not said anything to the staff yet which means they were fully aware they put us in a room that had broken water heater and leaks. ) we told the guy "no" more than 5 times before he actually left. Kept saying if he doesn't come in now to see the parts that the NEXT GUESTS won't have hot water in time and will get leaks HAHA WHAT ABOUT US? This hotel wants me to get dressed ASAP get out of their way and be fully accommodating to them so the NEXT guests have a good stay when they knew of these issues and still put us in there -- we were directly effected by everything. Worker gets back on phone and dude walked away finally. I'm so upset. I tell the staff of all the issues and the entire situation with my belongings and she said"sorry about that". That's it. Sorry. Sorry you couldn't just take no for an answer when I'm Ass naked telling you you can't have someone in my room and you and the maintenance worker are fighting me in that? Sorry all of my clothes are soaked and I'm going to my bfs bday lunch wearing last nights pjs? Sorry that my makeup pallets are unusable now because they are drenched in water? Sorry I couldn't take a shower or bath in anything above room temp water?? Hmmmm. Don't stay here. When I pay money, almost $300 for one night, I expect at least warm water, no leaks and some fucking customer service. I absolutely need someone to reach out to fix this cause this is bullshit. UPDATE 4 WEEEKS LATER: My refund was supposed to be processed two weeks ago and here I am almost a month after my stay and the manager tells me my refund didn't go through. It's obvious that my refund was forgotten about I'm so upset that this business can't take anything seriously. read more

Hotel said the check-in time was 3pm. Since we had a wedding to attend to and needed to get ready, we showed up early just in case. The hotel said the room wasn't ready yet, okay no problem. Then 3pm comes and goes, the room is still not ready. We asked to be placed into a different room, but turns out they're all booked. So we wait and wait until finally we're allowed to check into the room. It was obvious the room was cleaned in a hurry and we suspected the sheets were not changed from the last guest because it was still wrinkled. Management said they would waive the parking fee for our cars, but upon check-out they decided only to waive the parking for 1 car, because you know, it's not like either guest could enter the room. Other issues with the room: - Super poor wifi. Don't expect to do any work or even check emails. Everyone in the room ended up using their LTE coverage instead. - Non-stop machine noises. I don't know if it was the AC or the fridge, but it's loud enough to keep both people awake. - Hot tub was shut down, even though it was advertised as operational on the website read more

The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are quiet even though they're located by a somewhat busy street. The beach is a super short walk away! Restaurants are also walkable. Located a few blocks from the center of town and across PCH from the ocean, you can walk most anywhere. 14 West is clean, reasonably priced, has parking and a really cool terrace with a BBQ, spa and comfortable lounge chairs. We recently stayed here and ran into issues with their air conditioning units. Yes, more than one of them. The room we had been in for a night already had an air conditioning malfunction of some sort and stopped working. We called down and Robert at the front desk let us know we had two options: he could give us some money off of our stay and provide us with a couple fans or we could move rooms. The temp was well into the 90's so we opted to move rooms. Once we got all of our belongings moved we turned on the air in the new room and lo and behold, it was not working. We called down to Robert again and he said give it some time so we went out to dinner. When we got back it was still warm in the room and the temp had not gone down. Robert came back up and was friendly enough about it, he gave us the same couple options but also said he would check another room to make sure the air was working and he offered us a $50 discount on our stay either way at this point. We waited a little while and checked the air in another room and it was working, so we moved for the second time. We thought maybe it was just our luck, but later remembered the room next to our original room had the door open and a fan blasting into it when we came back from dinner our first night, so it would appear working air conditioners is a general problem here. This may not be a big deal for some, but when a heat wave is going on and you are visiting from WA state, the air is a huge deal. Also, all of our charges and credits went through (for some reason there were several of them) and we were charged for everything and not given the $50 discount Robert mentioned. When we checked out we spoke to a girl at the front desk about it and she said she would contact Robert later in the day and he would give us a call about it, and to wait for all the pending charges to clear to make sure. They have all cleared as of this morning and we have no $50 credit and we were not called about it. Update: we called to verify we weren't mistaken on the $50 credit and were told we were not and it would go through soon. The following day we were charged an additional $35. I had to call again and was told that even though the credit wasn't showing up yet in my bank account that they had processed it in two amounts of $15 and $35 and that their system automatically charged me $35 when they credited it to me, but that they would void that out. I don't know how their system works, but I have never been charged and credited so many times by one place. Ultimately, everything cleared and I was given the $50 credit. We also later realized that somewhere in moving twice we forgot a bag of clothing including our bathing suits in it there (we only wore our bathing suits while at this hotel), but we were told housekeeping didn't find anything. So, we are out over $100 in clothing as well. Overall: seemingly more trouble than the location, cute kitchenette, and comfy bed was worth. read more

Rooms are amazing (stylish and modern) with a kitchenette and amazing memory foam bed with soft pillows and a fluffy comforter. The location is perfect- right in downtown Laguna Beach with shops, food and grocery/liquor store around the corner. My stay at this hotel was initially pretty good until the very end. Initially I would have given the hotel a 3-4 star. The room we stayed at could have had more furnitures however such as night side tables besides the bed for u to place your phone, ear plugs etc. also a full length mirror or just more than 1 mirror would be nice since the room can fit 4 people. Our room was room 1. The reason for our stay was for my moms bday. I took her out for a short weekend trip. We did like the convenience of the location. However, on the last day, I accidentally left my beautiful white Parisian blouse on their white sheeted bed. When I got home and unpack, I called right away and a gentleman who was working there said he did not see anything in lost and found. So I anxiously waited until the next morning to see if anything turns up but Ruth the day hotel concierge also said nothing was found. She said she and the staff looked over all the sheets and found nothing. I offered to come back to the hotel to look but they said "no, the sheets are already taken to the cleaner." She said they did email the cleaner to watch out for the shirt. Now, I really hate to write negative reviews but I have to just because this is a really dishonest act. I wore the shirt for dinner for my moms bday, came back to hotel, and left right away the next morning. We went straight home. The only place my very memorable blouse could be at was the hotel. Why would 14 West hire someone who will take a blouse? I did my due diligence and called and followed up. Either they didn't take the time to actually look or someone took it. The door was lock when we left so the only person who could take it is someone who works at the hotel. I emphasized how important the blouse was. It's not the $$, to the memory. My husband and I went to Paris recently and that was probably the last fond memory for the last few weeks because my father had a stroke. I took my mom out to give her some stress relief and the trip was great until I am reminded that there are people out there that will steal even a blouse? I just want to let viewers know this is not a bad hotel on the outside but they hire people who are not trustworthy. If someone from the staff can steal something that was left behind in less than 24 hrs from checking out, who is to say they won't steal something if u leave it out even during your stay?!? I hope the management will take this into consideration. I just don't want anyone else to suffer from this. I had really hope the blouse will just turn up not only because of the fond memories, but also because this means no one committed the vile act of taking something that wasn't there's. I don't wish harm on anyone but this needs to be reported so that no one else will be harmed. I really do want to thank Ruth and another male night shift concierge that have helped me. The general manager unfortunately did not get back to me. I truly hope the blouse was thrown away by someone by mistake and not that someone took it. This place is honestly soooo nice. The room is clean and the location is right near downtown. And, the staff are very friendly, especially Sergio! He made our trip very relaxing and comfortable. Would recommend this place. I especially loved how on the top deck, there were cute beach chairs set up three steps away from your door. You can get a sun-tan as you chat with your girlfriends. Tip#1: If you live far away, don't try to pack a lot of snacks in your bags. Ralphs is one minute walking distance, and it's open for a long time! I took advantage of this and had lovely midnight snacking. Tip#2: Such a no-brainer, but bring a bathing suit. There is a jacuzzi I saw when I was looking around on the top deck, but it wasn't running water yet (I think all you had to do was press the button to start it though). read more

Wow, I can't believe there are actually good reviews for this place. Stayed here with my wife and would not recommend this to my worst enemies. 1st. No one works here, you are alone and when you need help, good luck. 2nd the bed was broken and my wife and I were very uncomfortable. 3rd. The fridge starting working 48hrs late and rotted the food just in time for it too work and freeze said rotten food. 4th, the cable box is hidden in the closet, good luck changing channels. 5th $225 a night and you have to pay for parking $15 dollars a night, its a rip off, you can stay at the motor lodge for 1/3 that and get better service. 6th. The location is good but you can stay across PCH for half the price on the beach. 7th Their website misguides you with photos that make it look spacious and my closet at home is bigger 8.the air conditioner is very loud, better drink lots of booze to pass out so you can sleep here. 9. State this again, there is no staff so when you don't have any silverware in your room you're screwed. Honestly, if yelp had negative stars , this place would get all of mine. One last thing, in their room books welcoming you to the hotel, they have a bunch of apologies for the inconveniences you have. For example, its states " we apologize for placing the cable box in the closet" They should spend more time fixing their issues than writing the numerous apologie for them. read more

I had the WORST experience ever at this place. I booked the La Jolla room 6 for 2 nights. I came in at 8:30 pm and noticed the office was locked so I called the number that was listed on the wall. The manager stated she sent me a confirmation letter to my email address, which I did receive so my fault for not checking that email and focusing on my work as a priority. First you need a code to get past the gate and then they leave the front door keys in a lock box (which wasn't locked) after struggling for a while to get it to unlock a gentleman who was drinking outside helped me and finally got it to open. I finally got in put my purse down & went to the car to get the rest of my things. There's no elevator so I knew I couldn't carry my luggage upstairs so I just grabbed the things I needed and went up. This time trying to get the door to unlock was almost impossible I struggled, the same guy outside struggled but the lock kept spinning, his friend tried after he gave up the first guy kept trying until it finally opened. I noticed the room had nice but cheap appliances, there was no safe to put my jewelry in, the sheets were still wrinkled and dirty, and when I tried to turn on the tv it wouldn't work. I left the room again (I know I should have stayed but needed some items from the store) and when I got back I tried to look up the email on my phone and realized I must have accidentally deleted it. I checked my trash folder and it wasn't there, somehow it got lost in cyberspace so I called the manager again at the 949 # but no answer, left a message explaining what happened (never returned call) I called another 877# no answer so I knew I had to jump the fence. If it wasn't for my stuff being in the room I would have left this nightmare. I was trying to unlock the door AGAIN, woke up a guest & got more help. I stayed the night since I was exhausted. When I woke up I noticed a trail of ants trying to get into my box of chocolates on top of the kitchenette counter, it never stops! I checked out & front desk was on the phone so I just whispered I was leaving room 6 & dropped off the keys and rushed out to class. I sent the manager Carolyn an email during a break and explained the issues and she apologized if the instructions were not clear on the confirmation email, wtf? I'm glad its over and you have been warned! There are other hotels at the same price& location where you won't encounter these issues. read more

At even a Motel 6 I expect a few things to be working: TV, toilet and shower. 14 West had 1/3 of those for $245/night. The TV receiver was behind the closet wall with no way to change the channel or move the receiver! The HDMI cable was also damaged. Instead of fixing this, 14 West has a paper apologizing for it. What the...?! The toilet chain was broken. Management was quick to "fix" the toilet chain, but the chain was just reattached to the toilet flapper and it still had to be manually closed in order for the reservoir to fill. Also, the toilet paper holder was just dangling from the wall. Housekeeping never came and the tiny trash did not help that situation. Also, I requested "Room 8" 2 months in advance for my honeymoon, but did not receive it. Maybe it was booked, but I doubt it. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable, the location is good, they had a full kitchen and the design was nice. I will give them a star for that. In retrospect, I should have paid the same amount for an upgraded unit with an ocean view at Pacific Edge across the street. read more

Location: Fantastic. Main strip of Laguna Beach in the middle of all shopping and great dining. Short walk to the beach. Hotel: Just ok. I think I would have given it 4 stars if I had actually seen any staff there. It's a self service hotel. The rooms are nice, no complaints here (only the loud air conditioner which makes it hard to sleep at night). Maybe just room 14. The office was closed during my entire stay and I did not see anyone. They provide you with a gate code to the garage and give you the keys in a lock box. If you have luggage, hawling it up the stairs is not fun as there is no elevator and no rooms on the first floor. We could have saved the $12 daily parking fee just by parking on the street (too bad we thought of that after the fact). For the price I paid, I would probably would not stay here again. read more

Just finished our second trip to this hotel and we LOVE it! It's quaint, intimate, and within walking distance of just about everything. First tip: This is NOT a chain style hotel! If you're looking for 24/7 staff to tell you how to do everything, look elsewhere! This is a "boutique style" condo. Great location and charming atmosphere! The double mini fridge and kitchenette make snaking and small meals a breeze. Grills and a hot tub are available in the common area as well; you're covered for summer and winter nights. Each room is themed, which makes each stay at this boutique unique and exciting. Gated parking and locked entrances provide a very safe atmosphere! We too had struggles with the door lock to our room, but a little bit of patience and intelligence pays dividends. Oh, and we were three sheets to the wind when struggle ensued! Now sober, I find the locks to be an added level of security, and the difficult locks are intentional! My girlfriend wants me to add that beach towels and a blow dryer "with attachments" top it all off! One last thing... We met the new staff/ownership upon our check-out and they were great! I hope they remember us when we return soon! Back to Carlsbad!! read more

I stayed here a yr ago and forgot to wrote a review. Great place to stay! No ocean view :( But location is fantastic!! Just a step away from the beach. Interior outstanding! All upscale and modern. Love the BBQ to use! Def Wil be back! read more
