This place is one of my family's favorites for a fancy night out. Their food is always delicious and does not take long to be served once ordered. The place was clean & elegant. The Staff was polite and professional. The menu is pricey, but the food was very good. There was a hiccup and the food we order took over 35 minutes to arrive. We were hungry and getting upset. Before the food came out, the manager was watching us. He came over, introduced himself, Johnathan and apologized the delay. He then came with the food, apologized again and told us our lunch was taken care of. He offered us more drinks and dessert, we accepted; it was very good. We visited during restaurant week and had a nice dinner. Luckily we made reservations and did not have to wait to be seated, the place was packed. The restaurant week menu lacked a bit for the appetizers. We opted for the deviled eggs and the double-dip. The roasted pepper queso in the double-dip was a big disappointment; it was not your typical queso, think more of a cheese ball. The eggs were nothing special but were well prepared and tasty. For our entrees, we selected the ribeye and baby back ribs. It is a lot of food! A full rack and a 14 oz ribeye, we took home leftovers. The large portions continued with dessert, we both chose the peanut butter pie. The crust was really good. We had a pleasant dinner. The staff was on it and friendly. (1 idea, 3 friends, 1 goal) The food here is excellent, and they are proud to serve fresh food - no freezers here. 131 was one of the first "nice" restaurants I went to when I moved to Charlotte. Since then, I've been countless times, but it wasn't until last year that I discovered my favorite menu item. (more on that below) The menu is fantastic, with specials that highlight what they're capable of cooking. I think you could pick any random item off the menu and have an exceptional meal, as well as a good choice for appetizers. The deviled eggs are always a tasty snack before your meal, but the real hidden gem is actually on the dessert menu. If you're craving something sweet, delicious, and most decidedly bad for your diet... you need to try the banana cream pie. Don't be afraid to order one to share with your date, as there's more than enough to share. (Did you eat that entire "slice" by yourself?! Shame on you, go for a long run to burn off those calories!) The banana cream pie is delicious, topped with bananas, caramel, chocolate, chocolate chips, and whipped cream. My wife and I have been known to visit on Tuesdays to split a 1/2 price bottle of wine, some deviled eggs, and a slice of pie, Overall, the price may turn off some budget minded diners, but the food, service, and ambiance more than make up for. I would highly recommend this restaurant, (or one of the other locations) for a date night, or that higher end dinner when you're trying to impress your in-laws or a business client. Also - you can order a whole pie for pickup, which is especially helpful for holiday meals. 131 Main has been around for a very long time, they stick to the staples on their menu which makes it easy for them to excel and remain consistent. I believe they are slightly over priced for some things but that won't stop me from supporting them. I will say that the grilled artichokes are amazing and deserve a return visit for them alone. They're served with some type of sauce which really just puts them in a class all by themselves. They crab cakes were pretty good and very nicely sized for the price, but I wasn't over joyed with them so I probably wouldn't order them again. The braised cabbage was also good but not great. Again, for the price I need greatness and aside from the artichoke, it was just ok for me on this visit. read more

This restaurant was recommended by my co-worker for a colleagues going away dinner. I didn't know what to expect by it's mustard building, but I knew my coat matched perfectly! (LOL) Once I entered, I could feel the ambiance. I knew I was going to enjoy my dining experience once I browsed the menu. My favorite was the cornbread! I hadn't had anything like it before with the dipping/drizzle sauce. It's homemade and hearty. Everything we had was delicious. The prices are reasonable for the type of dining experience. I'd save this place for a date, dining with girlfriends, or corporate meeting. Keep the kids at home or bring them a plate. You'll want to dive into your meal with no distractions! Everything I have ever had at this 131 Main location has been fantastic. They are tried and true in the Lake Norman area. Although they have expanded throughout the years, I still think this is the best location. It is nice to meet someone after work and sit around the fire pit. The patio is great but it faces a busy road, so you need to be okay with some road noise. If it is a nice day out, I think it is worth it. Tuesday is half priced wine night and a great time for a date night or girls night out. Some of my favorites...double dip appetizer is a mix of pimento and guacamole; love all the fish items (even the fish sandwich at lunch); anything with fries is never a bad choice; their salads are great size and so good. They have a daily soup at lunch time (not sure if they have it at dinner too). I've been running around and even stopped in for an order fries and a side kale salad for lunch...balance ‍. Both are excellent and all I wanted. Key lime pie is an excellent dessert option...get it and share it or take some home...it is huge! Enjoy! read more

Dinner, Lunch and Sunday Brunch are all good. Been awhile since we have been here so my wife and I decided to visit the Sunday Brunch again. Church ended at 10:30 and by the time we collected everything and drove over it was 10:50. They don't open for Sunday Brunch till 11:00 so we waited a few minutes and walked in. Almost perfect timing. We were the first couple in and were immediately seated in a booth down the first aisle. 131 tends to have lower lighting that I like and with all of the dark, wood it can be a bit hard to read the menu. To make matters worst, shortly after placed our order, the closed all of the blinds and the dark got darker. Both of us started out with coffee which was excellent. Bold and Rich with excellent flavor. Menu is creative and well executed and both my wife an I opted for one of the Benedict's. She ordered the Steak Benedict while I went for the Crab Cake Benedict. . Both came with White Cheddar Grits and Grilled Asparagus as well. While we waited, our server made sure that we did not want for anything. Our cups and water glasses were constantly full. When my wife excused herself to go the restroom, she left her napkin on her seat. The served came over and picked it up and refolded it for here. A mark of a good restaurant that pays attention to details and to their customers. Both dishes came out in a timely fashion. I'm a fan of presentation and plating which is almost a lost art but not here. Not only were the dishes appealing to the taste but also very visually appealing. As for the entree itself, both were excellent. The Crab Benedict maintained the delicate flavor and texture of the crab cake and while I am not a fan or grits which is ironic since I am a Southerner, these grits were delicious and may make me a fan. Asparagus was excellent. Nice and tender with no hint of toughness. My wife enjoyed here Steak Benedict as well. She ordered medium and she got a perfect medium with exactly the right amount of pink. Not dry and very flavorful as well. Portion sizes were large. I am a gregarious eater and ended up leaving a small amount of grits and not because I did not like them but because I was sated. My wife ended up with a to go box which she had for lunch the next day. They call it a doggy bag but believe me, the Corgi lost out on this one. Good place for quite dining in a relaxed atmosphere and what some would consider romantic. Highly recomment read more
