Melancholy has crept into my brittle bones, binding tightly like deep roots I know all too well. "We're here on a trip, I called you last night about a card." I have found myself in a place I never thought I would this year, as well as in a place I didn't think I would stand. The flow of time made it otherwise. "Oh!" The man behind the desk exclaimed. "You must be Joe." My dad placed his hand on my shoulder. "Yep! And this is my son." I snap to and release my gaze from the random picture of Sean. "Hey. Nice to meets you." I put my hand forward to give out one of those famous cold hard American handshakes. My dad and the man continue to talk. My mind began to drift off, staring aimlessly at the jackalope in front of me. I wonder what life for it must have been like, scary probably. After my dad and the man settles up we hop into his truck and head out to the lease, we have a bit of grief getting and celebration to do today. ---------- [12ish Hours Earlier] After a confusing hour or so, my dad and I unload his truck for a rousing Father and Son Hunting Trip. You may think this would be an event I'd hate, on former occasions you'd probably be right. Not so much this time. "I bring ALL the guns in right? It would be a dumb thing to leave them in the truck, right?" The look on my fathers face tells me my joke didn't land the way I thought it would. We get ready for bed because we got a big morning ahead of us. While my dad was on a witch-hunt for the card I was able to sneak a few hits in before the evening ended. "Do you have anything you want to watch?" My dad shrugs and kind of waves me off. I land on an episode of The Simpson's. Some minutes fly by. "Hey, Dad..." "Yes, Son." "Do you believe in aliens?"[1] Some more times passes. We see the family have a struggle on the tv. "I have so much more to worry about on this physical world that I don't have time to care about what happens above it." fair enough. Shortly after we turn off the show, and lay down to rest for the night. I took the bed opposite of how mine is paired back at my house, somehow it feels familiar, like all the random beds I've slept in over the years. The mattress is less giving then the ones back home, for the better, I don't think I need to get used to this. I think the only helpful accommodations that could be improved is maybe a few more amenities/ add ons such as; blowdryer, more shower/sink shelf space, maybe a shelf over the toilet for extra stuff guests have, a shelf over the bed to place phones/remote, a mini fridge and microwave. We were on the phone with Matt to reserve a room for our trip and he must've mistaken himself and told us there was a fridge, we brought cold food in a cooler, found no mini fridge and had to keep buying ice and keeping the cooler inside the room with us (which took up room in the bedroom) which became a slight inconvenience but, we made it work! The Middleton and middle sister staff are absolutely phenomenal and they're such nice people. The cleaning lady, she does an amazing job at tidying up the room and leaving such a cleanliness smell behind. She even remade our daughter's packnplay bedding and added an extra sheet for cushioning on her mattress, it was so sweet of her going out of her way to do that for us, leaving an amazing experience. I would add that our trip went through Cinco De Mayo and they had a deal on their margaritas at the bar downstairs, originally $15 dropped to $10 on 3 specific margaritas, otherwise the ones not listed in the deal are regular price. That wasn't really fitting for us, so we sought out a Mexican restaurant that sold 3x the size of the margarita I got from Middleton bar-- which was a $10 full whisky glass filled with ice and a certain margarita, the flavor I wanted, that Middleton didn't provide in their deal, and for only $5! It's a great place here but hopefully there can be reconsiderations for bar prices.

I booked my reservation and, just two days later, had an unexpected situation that required me to cancel. Even though I wasn't booking within seven days of my stay, I was told they have a strict seven-day cancellation policy and made no exception despite me explaining my extenuating circumstances. There was no flexibility or willingness to work with me, which was frustrating. Since I was unable to receive a refund, I decided to keep my reservation. When it came time to check in, I still hadn't received my arrival instructions and had to contact the hotel myself to have them emailed. That shouldn't have been necessary. Once in the room, there were more disappointments. I booked the room for two guests, yet only one robe was provided. The pillow had what appeared to be a stain on it, which immediately raised concerns about cleanliness. I also discovered the bed frame was broken, causing the bed to wobble every time either of us moved. For a hotel that markets itself as a premium experience, these are details that should never be overlooked. To be fair, there were a couple of positives. The mattress itself was comfortable, and the air conditioner worked very well, which made sleeping more comfortable despite the unstable bed. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I believe they're warranted when expectations aren't met. With better communication, improved housekeeping standards, and more attention to room maintenance, this could be a much better place to stay. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I can't recommend it.
