This is an...interesting place…read more My mother and I stayed here for an overnight as my dad was in the hospital, which is less than a block away. I called this "Your Aunt's House", meaning when you're on a road trip and you have to stay at your aunt's house, this would be that place. Furniture is a bit mismatched and older (think 70s and 80s), and the curtains and carpet have seen better days. However, it had everything that we needed (including dishes, pots, towels, etc) for our stay. The price is certainly a blessing. We got two adjoining rooms (two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one kitchenette and one living area) for $110 for one night; you'd be hard pressed to find that same amount of square footage for a better rate at a chain hotel. Between these two rooms there were two double beds, a rollaway bed and a couch, so we could have probably crammed as many as five or six in this room. The beds and couch aren't the most comfortable, so I probably wouldn't push it, though. TVs in the both rooms featured cable channels and WiFi was available. The lady that checked us in was helpful and efficient, so no complaints there. The place is what it is, and if I found myself in the position of having a loved one in the next door hospital for an overnight, I wouldn't think twice about staying here again.

I can't stop thinking about our stay here in mid March of this year!! My boyfriend and I visited…read moreMineola for a wedding and decided to try to book a hotel last minute - (not thinking that Mineola is a small town and there is NOT a plethora of hotel options! Ha!). My whole family ended up staying at the Best Western (which I heard NOT the best choice after their stay...) and we were in a hunt to find an affordable option that didn't include infestations of ANY sorts. We stumbled upon the Munzesheimer Manor on Hotels.com and I was slightly hesitant from the price, but there was only one room available (The Kringle Cottage) in the entire town and I emailed an inquiry to Ashlee. Just from her email, I felt sincerely welcomed and right at home, so even though the price was a little more than we initially wanted to pay, we booked! My next email to her had to deal with food preferences. The last thing I wanted to be was a bother, but since the price included breakfast, I thought I would ask if she would have any options without meat, dairy, or egg (vegan). I was happy to make other accommodations if that wasn't an option, but she happily emailed me back with an "of course!" without hesitation. We were THRILLED. She mentioned that she had a gluten free guest staying that same weekend and she is always cooking for allergies or preferences. So not only was Ashlee going to provide us with food, but when we got back from the wedding, there were freshly baked vegan brownies on our bed! (Jaw dropped with hungry drool!). In the morning she greeted us on our porch with hot tea (our preference over coffee) and at 9am we walked into the dining room to gourmet meals and beautifully set table with freshly squeezed OJ, maple chia seed pudding with fresh fruit, and German pancakes with a fresh strawberry drizzle. (Food cherubs singing!!) Besides the food and fabulous service, our Kringle Cottage was the cutest damn thing west of the Mississippi!! We had our own little porch with swing and all, a claw foot tub with an adorable heated furnace nearby, and the year-round comfort (I don't care how old you are!) of Christmas decorations and cheer! It was the BEST B&B/hotel/motel stay we have EVER had! If you are even thinking twice about booking a room here or thinking of swinging through this sweet little town, PLEASE DO!! If we ever drive up to Dallas again, we will be going out of our way to stay here! :) Can't say enough about the sweet southern hospitality we received.

I understand that they will be raising their rates, but in doing so, the manor is adding a host of amenities and new constructions. I am very excited for all the Bret and Ashlee will accomplish in 2015 with the place, and I am very pleased they are continuing to work with local community businesses to create a properous community in Mineola. If you take the Amtrak train to Mineola, you can even walk to the manor from the train, although I'm sure the Ungers could arrange transportation. Bret and Ashlee go far out of their way to make guests feel at home and relaxed at the manor, and they love to talk about the manor's history and about the Grand Saline/Mineola area. Make sure you attend breakfast every day. The food is wonderful (I'm glad they're changing back to the beignet coffee!) and the hospitality will make your vacation excellent.

What the website depicts the grounds to look like, location of rooms and housekeeping/maintenance keep tidy are down right wrong. The website makes it appear that the hotel rooms/buildings are near each other. False. Upon check-in we learned that our party of 11, was going to be separated. We asked if the 2 rooms were close to each other, she replied "oh yea just about a mile away." WHAT? A mile?!? I have literally have to get in our car and drive to their section of resort. The main hub where the welcome center, activity center, golf course, tennis court, basketball court, playground, pool (with separate zero entry for kiddos) and some multi story lodges are on a completely separate road then the remaining areas. The activity center has two pool tables ($1 in quarters to play), quarter machines, small arcade, giant checkers, giant chess, ping pong, game checkouts, blue bell ice cream, cold candy bars, cold drinks, subway and movies. The indoor waterpark is $24.95 for all day, opening to close (9pm) or $21.95 for evening hours. There is a huge area for little kiddos and 3 small slides for little ones. There is a lazy river with tubes, small wave pool, two slides with tubes and two body slides. We spent ALL day here and enjoyed every last part. I recommend sitting in the back of waterpark where they open the screen doors and it feels so cool with the breeze. Inside the check in area to pay for waterpark there is a SubWay and a pizza place. Both are good. The pool next to the waterpark is packed. Locals come here and take over. It was annoying, they had a loud portable speaker and literally acted like it was THEIR personal pool. The bathrooms here are DISGUSTING! Make sure you wear shoes at all times. The Beach Club, is on a completely different road. You literally have to get in your car and drive to it. These are tall multi story white beautiful buildings. The pool has a splash pad, zero entry pool and then a attached pool. Also at this pool area is a basketball court, tennis court, playground, volleyball area in sand and "beach" access. The bathrooms here are DISGUSTING! Then there is Lakeside. This is directly next to Beach Club & we stayed here. It's gated but the gate never worked the whole week we stayed here. It's a cabin in the woods. We were in cabin 113. It was cute. The cabin has stairs to the front porch with table/chairs and huge massive wasps and giant giant spider webs. Upon entry you have a living room with fireplace, dining room table and kitchen. There were millipedes all over the floor and cobwebs on every piece of wood furniture. It has two rooms, the master on the right and a 2nd on left. Inside this master I was greeted to about 4 huge ants and 5 millipedes. Master has a huge jacuzzi tub and spare has the shower. Within 3 days I woke up with different bugs INSIDE my bed. A spider, ant and an unknown identity bug. Gross. The jacuzzi takes 35 minutes to fill up 2 inches. When jets are on ants came out and the water blasts the mirrors. Beds had dirty sheets. We called and complained and never got clean sheets. The shower is meant for people 5'5" or shorter. I am 5'8" and my head went over the shower head. I had to squat to wash my head, nothing like doing squats so early in the morning. Throughout the week we encountered several bugs, insects and arachnids. I understand we're in the country/wilderness but bug control is highly needed and maintained. Every morning I saw ants and millipedes coming from under the baseboards and under the beds. I ALWAYS walked around with flip flops on. The pool in this area is TINY. Next, the Presidential Club at the Marina. This was even further down the road from the Beach Club and Lakeside Inn. Literally at the end of the road. Talk about beautiful and spacious! My family who was staying here also encountered bugs. They were in a 2 bedroom condo. It had a full kitchen, dining room table, couch set, table, fireplace, full washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub, shower, toilet, king sized bed and a whole separate unit with attaching door that has a bed, kitchenette and bathroom. Now, even though it's gorgeous... I heard they didn't have kitchenware. The scenery was beautiful it was right on the marina - talk about gorgeous! Parking can be a nightmare. There weren't enough spots for the resort. There is no pool here. Occasionally, while in the pools, every few hours a Holiday Inn employee dressed in a red shirt, black pants blew a whistle and said "pool check" - meaning you vacate the pool and show your room key. This flushed out the pool with the non guests and just locals. This is literally all they did. Easiest job in the world. Noodles, life vests, rafts, water guns and tubes are allowed in the pool.

Overall, we had a really great experience. Stillwater is much more than just a place to park an RV. There's always something going on between the pools, lazy river, bar and grill, live music, activities, sporting events, and special weekends. You can stay busy if you want to, but it's also a great place to just relax and enjoy the property. What really made our time there special was the people. We met a lot of great guests, seasonal residents, coworkers, and staff, and several of those people became real friends. That's probably what we'll remember most about our time there. Working for the resort also gave us a better appreciation for everything that goes on behind the scenes. There is a lot of work that goes into keeping a property like this running, planning events, maintaining the grounds, and creating a good experience for guests. Like anywhere, not every day is perfect, but the overall experience for us was very positive. After six months of living and working at Stillwater, we're leaving with a lot of great memories and friendships. We're genuinely thankful for our time there and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a destination-style RV resort in East Texas.
