This community centre is spacious and clean. Everything is easy to find. The gym is gigantic and stretches far beyond my eyes. The pool is 50m, worked by beautiful and hardworking lifeguards (lol just kidding, shameless plug). Both areas have plenty of seating for viewers. The hallways are large and extensive, so don't be afraid to wander around. There's also a fitness centre overlooking the pool. It's kind of small and lame but I rarely see it packed, so I guess it'd be a good idea. It's not great for lifting, but it has a lot of equipment for such a small gym. The regulars are usually older adults, trying to get some exercise in.

I visited Thornhill Community Centre for the first time yesterday. I only saw a part of it, but I…read morewas pretty impressed with what I saw. It makes my local one, Milliken Community Centre, look like it's not trying hard enough! I was here for Happy Cute Mart yesterday, which occupied one of the multi-purpose rooms. When I was briefly heading towards the south entrance, I saw folks studying in the library, which was fairly close to where this event was. The room that held this event was large. The south entrance doors were accessible, with buttons to open the door and no steps to deal with. Just before this multi-purpose room, you had to option of walking up steps or using the ramp. I chose the ramp to test it out. It was good. I didn't use the washrooms during my 1.5-hour stay. They are available throughout the centre. This community centre is impressive. It houses two NHL-sized rinks that are 85 x 200 feet in length. Seating capacities are somewhat intimate for NHL regulation-sized rinks at 300 and 600 folks, depending on which rink you are at. There are six dressing rooms for each rink. This place also has a therapy pool. It has an accessibility handrail throughout the pool and deck areas, which is nice. There's also a wheelchair ramp. The pool temperature is set at 35°C. It has one gymnasium that I never got to see. I like that there's a seniors centre that is the home of the Thornhill Seniors Club. It houses one of three City of Markham Health and Fitness Centres. It also has a dance and wellness studio. Pretty cool! I feel the need to return and check out some of these programs out. I'm not using my local community centres as much as I should. There was a lot of parking around the building. I managed to find a decent parking spot on a Saturday afternoon despite the event's popularity on top of regular programs offered by this centre. I liked everything that I saw while I was here. I didn't get a chance to explore the entire space, but I knew that there is a Tim Hortons on site, 2 skating rinks, a library, plus, washrooms are available throughout the community centre. There were plenty of parking spots around the building. Though for this holiday event, the lot was maxed out, and we had to park further out. The local bus actually comes through the parking lot too.

This location has a large upper gym area, a pool, and courts for different sports. They also have classes throughout the day! With the membership price and the ability to access multiple locations, I definitely think a YMCA membership is worth the price if you plan to make use of everything that they offer.

I guess that's still true but I was surprised at how much the monotone grey-scale of the entire place made it feel cold in here. I guess I'll continue with a couple more critiques. One is that I don't understand why they don't simply keep towel racks in the plus change-rooms as they do at every other Y I've ever been to. It's part of what you're paying for, and though you can get them at the front desk, it just seemed odd that they just won't keep them stocked in the change-room for convenience. The change-room itself was quite small and has virtually no seats which was a bit odd too. Apart from those minor things, the workout area is well stocked and they even have a couple unique things in what is sort of a mini studio in the middle of the workout area. One thing I really appreciate this place as a runner is that their track is longer than most of the other ones as it circles the gymnasium as well. It's nice having longer straightaways so you don't feel like you're turning most of the time. If you're strictly into using weights, they do have what you need here though you can probably find other places to go to for cheaper. However, Y's (including this one) are great for having additional amenities, which includes a full-sized pool, gymnasium, running track, programming for kids and other things. There's also often more a community feel at them and often a chance to make connections too.

Also, there were some outdoor performances. The weather was ok, just too cold I felt. There were lot of volunteers to help out. It was a long lineup for the free popcorn, my kid enjoyed the Lego station so much. The swimming pool has a big dolphin, which also attracted my daughter too. We would like to come for the community activities in the future.

Then the Aquaquest classes that were each kid's rite of passage. At one point it became cool to bike here, hang out, and hit up the awesome yellow big kids' slide. Then you stopped coming as a teenager 'cause Wonderland and the beach were cooler. And then one day I came back for the Lane Swim to cure my saaaadd, academia-induced neck pain. I had become an adult. Not much has changed over the years. The giant "Richmond Hill" flag still hangs at the front of the pool. The ceiling here was likely exceptionally high and sunny for '90s standards, and is still impressive today. I *think* the "big kids' slide" is still the same one from childhood and it hasn't aged a day in 20 years. Change rooms are large and clean and let you avoid people. The staff are nice, it doesn't cost a fortune to come here, and their public lane swim hours are good (approx. 11am-1pm and 9-10pm on weekdays, 11-12:30 on weekends). The pool at 25m is standard for a community centre with a generous deep end, the warm pool is equally fun and spacious. My only complaint would be the narrowness of the small lane, and that the hairdryers in the women's washrooms are way too high for the 99% Asian demographic. Guess the town of R-Hill hadn't anticipated this turnout, lawls. 5 stars because this pool was already neat during its day and has kept up beautifully over the years. I've visited other R-Hill pools like the Centennial, where staff are rude a.f., or the Wave Pool, which is fun if you're under 12 and intolerable if you're over. I'll hit up a few more pools before finalizing the verdict, but for now Bayview Hill remains a first-rate spot to get your exercise in.

They also run summer/ March break sporting camps (tennis, basketball). This centre also features a play place in a room with really high ceilings - includes a small play structure and some kids toys throughout. There is a small sensory room that is always supervised. A large library with private study rooms available for booking. The pool is so spacious and bright! Large pool available for lane swim and a decent size kid pool. There is also a waterslide and small splash pad that isn't always in use/ turned on. The onsite gym isn't the largest but has decent equipment and a nice large 3 lane track (slow, medium, fast) that overlooks the gymnasium from above. Parking garage has been under construction for years. It also doesn't connect to the rec centre directly during this time of construction/ sometimes the elevator is not operational which is inconvenient especially in the winter when you have to exit the parking garage only to walk a few meters to enter the rec centre.
