Cornell Community Centre is definitely a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. With the increase of population in the new subdivisions, this is about time City of Markham adds more facilities for the residents in the area. Full Fitness Centre (requires membership), Group Fitness Room (city sponsored fitness classes), Swimming Pool, Running track, Multi use gymnastic area that have drop in sport programs for all ages, children playground and group and even a special area for Older adults. The only thing missing maybe is a skating rink, but there are Markham CC, Angus Glen CC if you want to go leisure skate. The building is nicely design and just need some finishing touches. Ample parking at least for now, I have to wait till everything running then I will know.

Nice clean facilities!! Lots of wide open space. They could use more seating area near the pool viewing area, but they have the seating in the upper level. Coffee/snack shop available!! Nice touch. Lots of parking in the parking garage. Some spots are tight due to some drivers who have problems parking.

Pro tip: do NOT park your car at the neighbouring seemingly empty lot- it belongs to ford, and they are NOT friendly neighbours. Your car will get towed without a warning. This community centre is spacious and clean. Everything is easy to find. The gym is gigantic and stretches far beyond my eyes. The pool is 50m, worked by beautiful and hardworking lifeguards (lol just kidding, shameless plug). Both areas have plenty of seating for viewers. The hallways are large and extensive, so don't be afraid to wander around. There's also a fitness centre overlooking the pool. It's kind of small and lame but I rarely see it packed, so I guess it'd be a good idea. It's not great for lifting, but it has a lot of equipment for such a small gym. The regulars are usually older adults, trying to get some exercise in.

The parking and accessibility of it was terrible though, since the walk from the parking lot to the building is far and I can definitely imagine that being inconvenient for some people or even just during the winter season with all the snow and slush. The inside is very airy and spacious with tons of natural light. The building is also brand new now, so all the facilities are great!

Brand new library!! Of course I am mighty excited!…read more A lot of green initiative and environmental friendly concepts has been integrated into the space. Love the colour theme too, so full of energy! Smell of paint and brand new books! Shelves and shelves of them... A multi level parking garage! Something in life that good can be free sometimes! Free open Wifi for everyone... But if you are into other language books, you would be disappointed, there are only 1 small shelf for other language right next to those hundred of Japanese comic books, maybe I should just read those instead....

I finally came to the library! After about 20 years of no library card, I decided to check out this…read moreone that is practically across the street. It's so awesome and modern! Getting a library card set up was super easy, and the guy helping me at the desk was friendly and helpful about showing me all of the cool things the library has to offer these days. There is a 3D printer that is pretty cool, although I'm not sure personally what I would use it for. They not only have books, but magazines, DVDs, Blu-Rays, TV seasons, video games, and audio/ebooks to borrow. You can borrow 100 items at a time...WOW. I love borrowing movies from the library for free!! It's almost like Blockbuster still exists. This is a small library, but it's still full of TONS of great books. The lower level is mostly kids stuff and it was a little louder, but upstairs was library-quiet and wonderful. Parking is free for 3 hours when you get it validated, which is great. Also free wifi, which is another bonus. I'm so thankful for the library and everything that it offers...I'm glad I checked this one out!

As a parent who cares deeply about the well-being of my children and other families in the community, I feel obligated to raise these issues publicly because the current conditions may place visitors, especially children, at risk. My first concern is the parking and traffic management outside the center. During the event, there were far more visitors than available parking spaces. As a result, vehicles were parked improperly, including along main walking routes used by families and children. This created congestion and confusion. Even more concerning, several drivers were moving through the area at unsafe speeds while children were walking between the entrance and driveway. I personally witnessed situations where children appeared close to being struck by passing vehicles. There were no visible staff members outside to direct traffic, no temporary traffic control measures, and no clear signage to guide drivers. In addition, some corners of the parking area have poor visibility, making it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians approaching. Installing convex safety mirrors at blind corners would significantly improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents. Without immediate improvements, the site appears vulnerable to a serious incident. My second concern is overcrowding inside the building. Once inside, the center was extremely crowded, with little visible organization or crowd control. There did not appear to be anyone monitoring the number of attendees or guiding visitors. This raised concerns about emergency preparedness and fire safety. In the event of an evacuation or emergency, it is unclear how people would exit quickly and safely. A busy public venue should have clear occupancy controls, proper supervision, and emergency planning procedures in place at all times. Another issue was the lack of attentiveness from staff at the information desk. I observed a young staff member focused on a cellphone while visitors around him appeared confused and in need of assistance. At a time when many guests required guidance, staff should be actively engaged, approachable, and available to help. Public-facing employees should understand that they represent the center and are often the first point of contact for visitors. Most disappointing was an interaction with a staff member identified as Eva. I politely asked for information about the event, but her response was dismissive and unfriendly. She stated that the activity was run by another group and was "not her business," then told me to ask them myself. Regardless of which organization was hosting the event, staff on duty inside the center should respond respectfully and make reasonable efforts to assist visitors. Basic courtesy, patience, and professionalism are expected in any community facility. Overall, I am disappointed that such an important community center appears to prioritize attendance numbers over safety and visitor experience. I strongly urge management to address the following issues immediately: improve parking and traffic control, install mirrors at blind corners, review occupancy and fire safety procedures, ensure staff remain attentive while on duty, and provide customer service training for employees.

This location has a large upper gym area, a pool, and courts for different sports. They also have classes throughout the day! With the membership price and the ability to access multiple locations, I definitely think a YMCA membership is worth the price if you plan to make use of everything that they offer.

Not necessarily my favorite Y, but ultimately it has most things you'd expect to find in one…read more I mentioned in a review for another Y that decor doesn't really matter with gyms. I guess that's still true but I was surprised at how much the monotone grey-scale of the entire place made it feel cold in here. I guess I'll continue with a couple more critiques. One is that I don't understand why they don't simply keep towel racks in the plus change-rooms as they do at every other Y I've ever been to. It's part of what you're paying for, and though you can get them at the front desk, it just seemed odd that they just won't keep them stocked in the change-room for convenience. The change-room itself was quite small and has virtually no seats which was a bit odd too. Apart from those minor things, the workout area is well stocked and they even have a couple unique things in what is sort of a mini studio in the middle of the workout area. One thing I really appreciate this place as a runner is that their track is longer than most of the other ones as it circles the gymnasium as well. It's nice having longer straightaways so you don't feel like you're turning most of the time. If you're strictly into using weights, they do have what you need here though you can probably find other places to go to for cheaper. However, Y's (including this one) are great for having additional amenities, which includes a full-sized pool, gymnasium, running track, programming for kids and other things. There's also often more a community feel at them and often a chance to make connections too.
