There was a slight miscommunication and I didn't realize that it would be $50 extra for tandem piercings for myself, and I was surprised and dismayed to find that a tip (20-30% of the entire bill including jewelry) was suggested and likely expected/counted on. I mentioned to Evan that I had expected the tip to be built in and he said "just give what you're comfortable with." We were already outside my planned budget (4 gold posts @ 75 + 4 stainless steel zirconia earrings @ 25/30 + tax + 2 tandem lobe piercing @ 125 = 685) and I wasn't able to tip nearly this generously. I assessed that they were both disappointed about the tip and I felt bad about this. Let me start off by saying I've had this place bookmarked for months after my friend found them on Yelp and was raving about their wide variation of jewelry. I only like rose gold jewelry, so when I heard that there was a place that would have more than just a couple of options, it totally justified the hour-long drive. One day my friend and I finally busted a mission to make the drive and get there just 40 minutes before they closed. I had been planning on getting my rook pierced with a rose gold barbell. I wanted the tiniest barbell possible and nothing else. This place is walk-ins only so be prepared to wait. When we got there there were 3 other parties in the studio. There was only one piercer and one receptionist. The receptionist did her absolute best in getting to and helping every customer that walked in. Her name is Andrea and she is absolutely amazing. When I told her what I wanted she told me that I couldn't get a barbell that small to start off with. I needed to start with a bigger barbell and wait until it heals before I switch it out for a smaller one. They didn't have the bigger barbells in rose gold which meant I had to get pierced with a titanium barbell. This was an automatic game changer for me. Being that all my other cartilage piercings have rose gold jewelry, I really wanted it to match. My dreams were shattered and I had no plan B. Andrea jumped in and showed me other options and suggested other jewelry. She was super cool, understanding, and patient. We ended up deciding on piercing my anti-Tragus. I wanted a hoop but again, no-can-do. I needed to start off with either a barbell or stud. I didn't know what I wanted but Andrea told me that I could basically do a barbell and customize the tips. So I ended up picking a rose gold lightning bolt for the front and a tiny rose gold ball to put on the back. The bar itself was titanium. The two 14K rose gold pieces ran at about $80-$85 each. The titanium bar was around $20ish. And then there is also the piercing fee which was around $30ish (more or less, I forget). So it's definitely not cheap, but in my opinion, if you are 100% happy with your jewelry, it's so worth it. By the time it was my turn, it was their closing time. I was afraid that they would be in a rush or even worse, tell me that they couldn't take me. Totally not the case. Time was never an issue to them and Bradley took both my friend and I. Bradley is the one who pierced me and he was also great. He's very blunt and honest which a lot of people could possibly take the wrong way, but I liked him. He's been piercing for over 15 years so he knows his stuff. He was super informative and answered all of my questions! Even though this piercing hurt more than any of my previous ones, he still made me feel very comfortable. By the time he finished the both of us it was 7:40pm. We kept thanking him and apologizing for being there so late, but him and Andrea were totally cool about it. I left with a piercing I'd never thought I'd get, but so glad I did. It's been a week and its still swollen but nothing abnormal. I'm obsessed and extremely pleased with not just the jewelry, and work, but most of all the customer service. read more

Long overdue review! We brought our 7&9 yo girls to get their ears pierced. We had the option to do both ears at once or one at a time. The 9yo did one at a time. The 7yo both at the same time. They were really busy but really efficient and friendly. 9yo went smoothly, she was nervous and did okay with having it done at different times. She's not big on pain but she's wanted this for SO long I knew she wouldn't back out. The7yo though. When it was her turn, she was smiling. Then you could see how nervous she was getting as her ears were cleaned. When it actually came time she started crying. I was afraid they would just go but they didn't!! I was so incredibly grateful that they took the time to talk to her and calm her down. It took about 5min for her to relax. She was still scared but not crying and ready to go. They held her ears the whole time though so they could go once she was calm. They definitely are able to handle kids. This could have been a terrible experience but they made it amazing. read more

Highest quality piercing studio in San Diego, and I say that with confidence. I've been upgrading my piercings to custom BVLA jewelry through other studios over the past 5 years and this studio has by far been the most responsive, professional, cleanest, and willing to go out of their way to match my jewelry, anatomy, and custom specifications--even during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Prior I had been loyal to another local piercing studio but began receiving such consistently poor service that I decided it was time to try a new studio that carried BVLA and found 101 Piercing through the BVLA website. 101 Piercing worked with me to design my custom and nonstandard jewelry pieces and did not rush installation to make sure my new piercings were exactly as I wanted with great attention to detail. Pricing is consistent or if anything, slightly more affordable than other piercing-only studios that carry BVLA and high-quality jewelry. Of course, high-quality jewelry and services are still more expensive than lower-quality ones, but when it comes to body modification and your physical health you should really only be dealing with the highest quality in the first place. I have already recommended them to my other friends whom other studios have similarly failed. Definitely a great place to go if you want piercings, but all I wanted was to take out a stud on my nose. The girl tells me there's 10 people ahead of me but it's been moving quickly so I decide to wait. I asked her if she could have the artist just take it out real quick since it's a simple procedure. She asked and because of covid I have to be on the waiting list. 2 hours later I was finally able to have it taken out. I understand it's covid and what not, but please think about customer service and what procedure it is. You literally could've taken out my stud and have me leave in 1-2 minutes. Thanks to Yelp, I found my go-to piercing studio ! 101 Piercing had rave reviews and I decided to check them out for myself ! I always wanted a nose pierce, but chickened out. I stuck with the ears. Baby steps. Mission: To get piercings and new jewelry for: * Left Helix * Both Ear Lobes History: * I previously got one of my ear lobe piercings done at another studio, but the jewelry piece came off and I couldn't find it. I didn't realize it until days after. Sadly, it never properly healed, because I would place random earrings in to keep the hole open, but it would irritate my ear and sometimes bleed. I also find that if I left it untouched it would slowly close off. This went on for months and I finally decided to get a quality jewelry ear piece so I wouldn't have to take if off daily and so it can finally heal properly. Present Experience: * Bradlee and Andrea were pleasant from the start. Andrea assisted me in finding the right jewelry pieces for both my ear lobes and left helix. I stuck with my birthstone, titanium white opal jewelry for the helix and a titanium white flower design for both of my ear lobes. Andrea made the process easy for me since I had a lot of options to choose from. * The studio is small, but well-maintained and clean. The piercing room is also up front so I noticed there wasn't much privacy and there is a window facing the front so you can admire the scenery while you get pierced. Bradlee was very professional and gentle. He didn't rush the process and explained everything to me step by step. Everything was sanitary. The whole process was stress-free! They really helped calm my nerves. I admit that I did have one drop of tear, but I just gazed at the birds outside and found my happy place. * It all happened so quickly and I was very pleased with the result ! My ears are HAPPY !!! Okay, so. I was very very hesitant to come to 101 piercing because many many years ago, I had gotten a few piercings done at 454 where Brad Lee was working at the time. He had done both my tragus and my re-do of my nose piercing on separate occasions. Each time, I had an unpleasant experience, finding him to be very arrogant and at one point he called my existing body jewellery "cheap". Why would she even go back to him? You may be asking yourself....Well, my good friend offered today on a spontaneous kick to buy me a piercing today while she also got one. This friend has a lot of piercings, each one done by Brad Lee. Also, she told me she's never had any issues with him. So long story short, I believe in second chances (and who can pass up a free piercing?)! Brad Lee was very busy with other customers as soon as we walked in, and we were 4 customers away from being next. The shop is very, very tiny but very cute. Clean, simple, rustic. What lost a star was how warm it was inside and the one ceiling fan just didn't do it justice. With the very large windows and small space on this 85+ degree day, it was just stuffy and uncomfortable. Once Brad Lee was able to help us out, he did put me at ease. I have piercings and tattoos but I'm still always such a baby in the moment before getting needles stabbed into me. I can honestly say that Brad did not once leave me or my friend to feel uncomfortable, in fact, he was very professional and really knowledgable about everything in the shop. As someone who is absolutely terrified of needles, I never thought I'd be writing a review of a piercing shop. But when the back of my guy's earring fell out a couple weeks ago, we found ourselves searching for a piercing shop that was open late on a Sunday. A quick Yelp search led us to 101 Piercing and we were both impressed with the customer service. They had us in and out of the shop within 10 minutes, including helping to decide on the right size and putting the new earrings in. We received 20% off the new jewelry by checking in on Yelp so that was pretty sweet too. I admit that if I weren't so petrified of needles, I would consider this shop for any piercing needs. Just a note after reading Bradlee's comment on my updated review: I haven't been in a horse barn in years--certainly not since getting my ears pierced--and I wore a helmet twice, the first time being 10 months after getting my piercings. These aren't regular things for me. I also haven't been in the ocean or a pool since. I would like to be very clear that the gauge of the flat-backed earrings (and the posts used as replacements) is too thick for me. Those earrings hurt even in the piercings I've had for twenty years. I understand piercings take a while to heal, but twenty years should be sufficient if the earring is the right size for the hole. I hope they work out well for other customers, but they haven't for me. Maybe I have special snowflake ears, who knows. However, insisting that the gauge of the earring isn't a problem when it definitely is makes it hard for me to trust this shop. read more
