The line moved quickly enough, and we lucked out with our table--the one downstairs table in the whole joint, available to us and our unwieldy stroller. The staff was probably wise to segregate us from the rest of the diners, and we had plenty of room to enjoy a stressful but tasty lunch. L'Artémise bills itself as a tea house, and it had the right vibe for it, kind of lacy sweet with pastel colors and floral wallpaper. I ordered a pot of the house signature tea, called Rose de Bombay. It was nice and aromatic, and it came in a beautiful floral teapot with matching cup and saucer. My kids were enchanted by the presentation. Service was otherwise informal and pretty hands off, the restaurant side of things decidedly casual. There were plenty of food options, most importantly fluffy pancakes for my boys, which came with apple compote, fresh fruit, maple syrup, and whipped cream. I got the cheddar Benedict bun, a great breakfast sandwich, with smoked bacon, two soft-boiled eggs, lemon sautéed spinach, creamy roasted garlic, cheddar sauce, fresh herbs, and sumac on a homemade bun. It came with a light green salad with a vinegary dressing. My mom and I also ordered the house scones with cheddar, onion, and sun-dried tomato, but what came were plain scones with clotted cream and jam. You know what, though? No complaints there. The scones were flaky, fresh, and delicious. I'm really glad we found L'Artémise. It was a charming place to feed and water the children, and the food was significantly better than we required.

The bakery is a standard, small European bakery offering streudels, breads, pastries, eclairs, and the like. I have only had the small cookies that are sold by weight, brownie, and streudel, all of which were simply divine. It is hard for me to accurately assess pricing as I live in Zurich where everything is overpriced and don't taste nearly half as good as the offerings at this bakery. I typically get a kilo (what can I say?) of cookies and a brownie and spend around 15 euro. The women are friendly and understand enough English to allow you to pick out your own cookies that they pack up for you. The only drawback was during my last visit a very tacky U.K. family came in and started taking a ton of photos (with flash). Menus did not offer an English translation which may have impacted our ordered and experience. Food came out quickly. We ordered braised pork and the baked fish. Both were poorly presented. The fish was tasteless and watery and the pork was hard to look at. The waitress even laughed a bit when she placed it in front of my wife. It was big shank with a quarter inch of slimy hide wrapped around it. Once we pried the skin off with our butter knife (no steak knives given) what lay beneath was a dark pink flesh that seemed reminiscent to what the Donners must have had for dinner in the Sierra-Nevada - except what they ate was probably cooked better and less greasy. The rice and sauerkraut were the best parts of our meal. The wine was good too. The people around us chose flatbread type pizzas and they seemed to love them. I apologize to any other restaurant to which I have given a harsh review. This was one of the worst meals I've ever had. Next time I'll stick to the pastries

I was in this little town in Alsace on business, and had eaten lunch at work every day of the week…read more The last day, I ventured out using Google and looking for lunch, never dreaming that I would find this congenial, charming, family-owned jewel within walking distance of my hotel! DELICIOUS and HOMEMADE breads, pastries, salads, desserts, pizza, much of which was made using produce from their garden. A gorgeous atmosphere creekside, with shady tables and a very casual vibe. The salad plate was colorful and so very fresh, with various types of salads on one plate. The dessert was not too sweet and who can say no to raspberries & cream! The service was amazing, and you can tell they really take pride in what they're doing. I bought some jam and hummus in a jar (!) to take home with me. Thanks to WhatsApp, Siri and modern rental cars, a colleague eventually joined me for an unforgettable experience! What started as foraging for something different turned into a leisurely, multi-course lunch, just like we see on TV! Vive la France and the RHUBARB iced tea!
