My dad always taught me, never give away the honey hole. But today. I will. This man's business deserves it. Its becoming harder and harder to find a place that CONDUCTS good business. Not just good prices or know how. But also takes care of their folks. If you shoot weird stuff. He has it. (Old milsurp, 32 sw and long, 250 savage, H and H stuff. And he will order what he may not have.) Looking for that powder you cant find. He may. (It might be old but sealed.) Looking for a projectile they haven't made in 30 years. He has it. Really dont need the whole die set just the X out of it. He has used sets. The other big thing he provides. On the fly manuals. I know, some of you are going to say (you should know the powder, projectile, yada Yada before you go). Then you arrive and have different options than you thought and need to reference. But your already at the store. He has a whole rack of modern to classic manuals for reference there. So you can look on the fly. We in this community dont do a great job of giving business to the folks who produce a good establishment anymore. We are always worried about the bottom dollar and if we can save more. We'll I'll tell you, I just got back into this hobby. I have spent time using every pricing site to find my best deals. Dollar for dollar. He may be a couple bucks more. But the selection he has is worth it. When I say a couple bucks more I mean legit maybe 10 dollars over retail pricing you'll find online. For me, to be able to walk in and talk to someone and support a business. That extra .10 a projectile or .05 a primer is worth it here. If you reload in so cal. The FFL's can be tough to work with. You should know they actually treat you like a problem to do business. I gave 4 out of 5 cuz I did have a hiccups with one thing I bought. I went back a week later. He still took care of me no hassel and did the right thing and beyond. This guy always treats his customer like a person and takes care of them the right way. Give him a go. I bet you dont open midway or grafs for a while. read more

Being a new handgun owner, I learn first-hand the horrors of buying insanely expensive ammo to bring to the shooting range. Desperate to find a cheaper and more renewable alternative, I wanted to learn about reloading ammunition as its touted by many gun enthusiasts as the cheapest, and most affordable way to get ammunition. The store took me a while to find. It's subtly hidden in the front of one of 3 buildings in a small plaza. I was able to find thanks to the very big and no so subtle store sign placed near the entrance of the store(thanks!). Walking in, you will find the owner of the shop, Brian Scales, fiddling with one of three presses set up on the workbench. He'll come up to you in a very welcoming manner and ask you 3 questions: How are you, what are you looking for, and do you have any questions for me? I explained to Brian that I'm a gun owner wanting to learn more about reloading ammunition and was unsure of where to start. Without missing a beat, he gave me an entire tour of his shop and explain the niches and products he offers. Brian will also give detailed demonstrations of the three types of reloading presses and will cater to your specific needs (how much do you shoot? what ammuntion do you want to make? what's your price range? etc.). Most, if not all the supplies are very affordable. For example, 1 lb gun powder on Cabela costs around $20-30 or so which is relatively affordable but you have to account for the extra $20-25 shipping hazard costs, which forces you to buy in bulk to save or otherwise you have to pay that shipping hazard every time you buy. If you're new or you don't reload that often, 1 lb of pistol gunpowder at Brian's store costs $30, and you obviously save more by buying in bulk. At the end of the tour, I thanked Brian for his time and told him I will come back in the near future for my resupplying needs. Contrary to what I thought his reaction would be to a 'oh here's another customer coming to my store and wasting my time instead of buying', he smiled and gave me an instructional booklet called "Reloading & Load Data Guide" by Western Powders and told me what it was about and that if I have any more questions, do not hesitate to come by or call and ask. That, pretty much sealed the deal for me. Brian Scales is a very knowledgeable expert who has been reloading for a very long time, and he was kind and patient to explain and answer my questions about reloading to an amateur like me. If you're new to reloading, this is the shop you want to stop by first. I definitely will be coming back here for my reloading needs for as long as possible. Thank you Brian. read more

I came to Reload OC the other day based on a recommendation from a gentleman that I met at the range. It was easy to find and directly off of the 57 which is convenient. Upon entering I found the shop to be small but well organized and stocked with almost everything I needed. Brian, the owner of the store, immediately introduced himself and allowed me to browse the store at my leisure. I began speaking with a fellow customer who was very knowledgeable and more than happy to share his wealth of experience with me; he even told me when the top shooters/reloader go to the range and invited me to attend. During this conversation Brian went on about his business in the back room which at first put me off until I realized that this is the atmosphere that I believe Brian has purposefully created; a place where people can come and exchange ideas, thoughts and tips without the pressure of a salesperson breathing down your neck. The moment that I had a question Brian was back front and center. Two observations that I made: 1. I requested a generic item which had multiple brands from which to choose and Brian quickly handed me one. As a bargain shopper I checked the prices of the others and noticed that Brian handed me the least expensive of all three. 2. I asked about an item that was not in stock at the time of my visit. Brian quickly scoured his catalogs and found the item. He placed a special order and took down my number. I'm still waiting on my item, but I expect a Forster ultra seating die in .308 is going to be an excercise in patience. I like that I was able to place an order with a person rather than click a back order button on the Internet. I feel fortunate to have a reloading shop in our area and even more so that it is this shop. At first the guy seemed friendly until he sold me a $700 set up that one was defective and two included the wrong powders for the ammo he gave me. I live far away from here and he said he cant accept returns!!! Totally screwed me. Bad business.
