For my first solo meal abroad ever, I wanted to grab lunch with a bit of a view and a location not…read morefar from Dam Square. That's when I fell upon De Drie Graefjes and their cozy corner location.
I sat down right away and was given a menu by a waitress that didn't really want to be there and/or really dislikes Americans lol.. maybe she was tired of tourists?
ANYWAY, I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich on corn bread which came with a side salad and tortilla chips. It was nothing short of amazing.
The portion was HUGE and this smoked salmon was the best I had on my trip (and I just so happened to eat a ton of smoked salmon since it's a very popular brekkie/brunch option here). The corn bread, baked in house, was to die for. I shouldn't have eaten that whole sandwich, but I did... and then I moved onto the salad. The dressing on here was super fruity (maybe blueberry? Not sure, but it was delicious). Unexpected flavors but totally genius.
A different and much friendlier waitress brought me my check, and then I paid. When I left, the first unfriendly waitress almost chased me out the door for not paying the check (with her) until her colleague also confirmed I had already paid. Guilty until proven innocent at this place, apparently. So, all in all, 5 stars for the food and ambiance and negative stars for the waitress who treated me like a criminal, basically lol
***FYI, I met a TON of people in Amsterdam and almost everyone was friendly and chipper. Just not that first waitress. I may or may not be salty about this still.
