But I wanted to check it out because I had heard of the good it does for the community and wanted to support it... and also to browse their Spanish book collection. I was immediately taken aback at the diverse selection of both new and used books. Although it is a small store, it is packed with so many good options. I went in to browse and maybe pick up one or two newbies, but ended up leaving w 7 gems. All used books, but in good condition. With taxes, I spent only a little over $30. I was able to pick up books of stories with Mexican, Nicaraguan, Salvadoran, Puerto Rican, and Indian backgrounds. I was in literary heaven! My favorite part of the shop was a little room in the back that has shelves stocked with really old stuff. There are 2 chairs in there for patrons to sit and browse, and black and white photographs draped on the walls to accentuate the room. I had an immediate spike in endorphins! Other pros: the staff is very helpful, they have a little coffee cart from a local business pop up on weekends, and they host various community events/workshops. There are two ways to get to this small book shop, one is to walk past the main entrance of the library and go down the stair case, or you can park on the west side of the library and enter under the large stair case. The store is tiny, but you can find some steals and bargains here. Make sure you come with plenty of time, patience and cash as they have quiet a bit to look through. About half of the items that are sold are old library items and the other half have been donated by people no longer wanting them. Books usually sell for $1, some are marked a little higher depending on how valuable they really are. The purpose of the Book Corner is to raise funds for more library programming. From what I can recall, the Friends of the Yorba Linda Public Library do give quiet a bit of money back to the library. The book corner has a couple of pretty large book sales every couple of months. These book sales get packed, but can secure you some awesome scores. They sell everything from books on CD, video games, records and books for all ages and subjects! Check them out and support your local library!

They also have posters, lobby cards, ephemera and a wide selection of classic and independent film DVDs. Great customer service, fair prices, and they are a fountain of knowledge on their subject areas. If I want to find something special for someone they always know just what to suggest. Do I sound like I'm gushing? Well, I just can't tell you what a pleasure it is to be in a place that still believes in providing a classic secondhand book store experience. As an avid reader, I've been to many library book sales and used book stores, and would rank this one high in terms of selection and price. There were plenty of hardcovers, paperbacks, children's books, classics, and old books ranging from 50 cents to a dollar. The newer books are inside and can be 2 or 5 dollars but they're all marked. The books placed outside are all cheaper. I picked up 3 books (whoops) because I just couldn't pass them up even though it'll make my carry-on a little heavier than I'd like. I personally love old books because they have so much character, and this place had a whole cart of weathered books. I even came across an old book of poetry that was dated from the late 1800s, but the cover was just hanging by a thread and I didn't think it would survive a beating on a cross-country flight. My grand total was 1.75, and I gave 2 dollars and told the volunteer to keep the change. It was hard for me to not buy more books I wanted but luggage space is limited. I just love this place and as a bibliophile, I'm always happy to books a new home. You can't really beat the price either.

I had planned to do some shopping too, but it was really crowded with other individuals dropping off donations (one woman that was so incredibly rude and pushed me and my stuff out of her way for absolutely no reason) and then also people coming to grab some items at the same time. The few items I did look at on my way out were priced a lot higher than I was expecting so I chose to go on about my day. I think I honestly just imagined a different experience, however it is nice they have this food pantry and it seems to help a lot of people.

We almost resigned ourselves to standing in the back, but we were quickly and kindly ushered to a couch. Everyone who went up to the mic was so, so good. All genres were represented: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, children's, comics. Two people even gave rousing music performances. Many people read in Spanish, and every single person read with humor, heart, and honesty. There were a lot of laughs and a lot of tears. The store truly is a safe space. Do I feel bad for not buying any books by Hispanic or Latino authors? A little bit... which is why I promise to come back and keep supporting this wonderful, beautiful, meaningful haven.
