08 Place is the city centre's official tourist information centre. Tourists and locals alike can find out pretty much everything they need to know about the city: things to do; where to to eat; the nearest hotels and hostels; opening times and locations of businesses; transport links- everything! The first port of call is the help desk manned by knowledgeable staff who can answer most questions, they can book tickets for local performances and shows as well. There is also Internet access in 08 which may be of use.
There are some great souvenirs available, all the obligatory: key-rings, stationary and book marks, plus Liverpool themed mugs and t shirts and Beatles memorabilia.
The first time I visited 08, I was quite impressed: a modern space devoted to the successful navigation of Liverpool, it seemed to open up great opportunities and possibilities and in some way affirm the status of Liverpool as a major draw for tourists. However, I must agree with the previous review, to some extent at least, 08 is fast becoming outdated. While the staff offer all the relevant information and thus achieve the main function of 08 Place, this is only given when requested; there is little activity surrounding the venue to draw people inside regardless of whether they are lost or not! There's nothing to inspire locals to discover their city or the visitors exploring; I think it could be more interactive. It does seem that the excitement of Capital of Culture is wearing off a little, which is a shame. read more
