Rode on the Railjet Express into Vienna from Budapest the other day and it was a decent experience. Opted for 1st class and booked a solo seat. (1st class is actually slotted below the most premium "Business class" which features a private cubicle) There are also options for a quiet car. As I travelled during the winter, there were plenty of seats and the staff checked tickets as soon as we left Budapest. Wifi worked and I was able to order lunch directly to my seat. Pricing was decent and the food looked good although the food was quite mediocre. The food was hot and crispy though. I do love that they brought food directly to my seat! Train left on time and also arrived on time. The loo was clean and stocked with soap, hand sanitizer, along with toilet paper. read more

On big family holiday saved forever to be here been on several long distance through Italy and never had the issues we had on OBB. First had trouble booking in the first instance. Already forked out for 1st class eurail pass. Had to then pay more and book "tickets" and then more money to book seat reservations on top. So in the end had three different things had to produce once on train. When asked by staff checking tickets I basically got told to shut up/curtly dismissed by staff because she was first discussing with my partner even though had them on my phone ready to produce. Wasnt aware had to pay and order food (other lines had always given us something). We waited 2.5 hrs with a four year old, in thr end we got sick of waiting for service staff to come back so walked down to dining cart to find her eating (which is entitled to breaks not saying otherwise) and got told curtly to go back to our seats and she will come take our order. Made to feel like were inconviencing them. Used manners and tried to be poliete but all staff rude. Even tried using QR code on their menu to order food and just kept sending in circles was useless. Fraudulent business - they allow you to purchase tickets through their app for journeys outside Austria (in Italy in my case) - and once they have charged you, you find out that ticket is not electronic and has to be picked up in Vienna (Austria). We reached out to the customer service as soon as we saw this on the email following purchase, and we were told request a refund on the Austrian webpage, submitted a form on this webpage and we were denied the refund, as somewhere, in fine footnotes, they apparently mentioned that pick up for tickets is only in Vienna (clearly not visible enough to avoid customer being mislead into purchasing tickets they cannot retrieve). Very unpleasant customer service experience as well. Total scam, beware and avoid! read more

My round trip from Vienna to Budapest started well enough. First class ticket both ways. Boarding in Vienna was easy and I found my seat. There was a great cafe car with seat service if you wanted it. Just as advertised. The way back to Vienna from Budapest was another story. Overbooked train. No seat for me. No cafe car much less seat service. There were several of us crammed in the section between two cars. It was extremely hot, the attendant didn't seem to know what was going on and shrugged her shoulders and walked away. What could have been a great end to my trip was a nightmare. Luckily the people I was standing with - for 4 hours were great and had good senses of humor. So, beware, a paid for first class ticket means nothing on OBB. read more

This horrible company will allow you to buy a first class ticket without an assigned seat for a SPECIFIC TRAIN but then when you get on your train, all the seats are taken and you have to make the whole trip staying up and they won't refund your money! They are basically stealing from you! And the customer service lady, very rudely, told me that because I didn't buy an assigned seat I don't have to get a seat. I BOUGHT a seat. I didn't have an assigned seat but I should get a seat! read more

OBB is an Austria train services. One way 2nd class with reserved seat from Vienna to Budapest is 32EU travel date 7.10.2017 1:39pm. Ticketing agent was very pleasant and helpful. Best of all he spoke English, I bought the ticket day before departure. Train is very busy, it arrived 2 minutes before departure time so everyone rushed to get in and most people have luggages. Train then starts moving before you can even find your seat. Train ride is very smooth, seat not as comfortable, 3 Yelp stars because no announcement to welcome you, let you know if you are on the right train, how long the ride to Budapest is. read more

you down with OBB? yeah, you know me. I had a great experience with OBB twice during a recent trip to the ol' Habsburg realms. from Wien Flughafen to Wien Hauptbahnhof, there's a train that leaves every 20-30 minutes on weekends. fast, quiet, and cheap. the service desk at Wien Flughafen station was understandably busy but they processed people very quickly and were friendly. the machines looked easy to use and had several language options. you can reserve tickets ahead of time, and the website was really absurdly simple and wonderfully efficient. note that buying a ticket guarantees you a spot on the train, but not necessarily a seat; for an extra 3 or so Euro, you are guaranteed a seat. considering the Vienna/Budapest line is pretty popular, this was a wise choice. there was decent strength free wifi on the train, though it stopped working when we crossed the border into Hungary. I'm fairly sure that the train intranet displayed a message about wifi only being offered in the "German speaking corridor"...uh...WEW LAD! seats are comfortable. the trains were not only in exceptional condition, but the refreshments car was actually pretty fairly priced and the food was surprisingly good. go figure, there were options beyond just sandwiches and salads! for some reason I chose the chicken tikka masala, which was way too good for food purchased on board a train. low-energy Amtrak could take a lesson or ten from the high-energy OBB! read more

Booked a few months before our trip and got the lowest price available. I also purchased assigned seats for €6.00 each (although I purchased seat assignments there was no reserved sign above our seats like it was during other trips in other countries in Europe which means if someone was sitting in our seats I would have had to show them that I reserved that specific seat and they would have to move... awkward!!) Tickets can be purchased online, at the station ticket office or kiosk. We took the train from Vienna Airport to Salzburg then Salzburg to Wien Hauptbahnhof. Our trains were on time. Our trains were pretty full so we were glad we prebooked seat assignments. On these routes the train cars were older and had no USB ports just an electrical outlet (economy cars) so bring your converter. WIFI was spotty. There is coffee/snack cart that comes around (coffee is quite good!) It is very easy to get around and find your platform at the stations. Trains are truly the best way to efficiently get around in Europe! read more

We are from Canada. We took the night train from Vienna to Venice. We had a private couchette. While we were sleeping somebody had opened the lock from outside and stole all of our money. We complained to the company and they keep changing what they say every time which makes the situation very frustrating and suspicious. They make up stories and change them next day. We lost around 1000 Euros in cash. I am writing this review because I do not want this to happen to anybody else. This ruined our vacation. I am a very careful person and I never thought this would happen to me. OBB is telling me that this is totally normal and obvious that any lock can be opened and manipulated from outside and we do not think it was necessary to tell you. Please do not take any trips with them since they are totally dishonest. I am not a heavy sleeper but I am sure somebody with lots of experience has done it and took the money from 3 different locations. read more
