We may define the campus starting from the Haking Wong Building at the West gate to Cheng Yu Tung Tower. The facilities there are recently constructed and new. One of the must-go site is on the Ground Floor (4/F of the Haking Wong Building) - the red brick wall with the university's name and logo - you may catch a glimpse of the photo. Yes, because of them, it's become another symbol of the university. There are several pieces of grassland beside. The grassland was quite nice and I loved sitting there and chatting with my buddies during lunchtime or after class. When it was autumn the breeze was mild and sitting there was just relaxing. Yet perhaps since the grassland got frequently trampled on, the soil became poor and now the university forbids us from stepping on it. If you love spending your spare time on grassland, you may go to the Centennial Garden on the 1/F. It's just finished construction and I'm sure that lots of people will be there after class! As an Arts student, I still prefer having lessons in the Main Building rather than the Centennial Campus. You know, the ambience matters. The Centennial Campus is just too new! But sadly I've never had lectures there... Anyway, the Centennial Campus has its perks as well. There are plenty of restaurants such as Union Restaurant, Delifrance, Grove, Super Super Congee & Noodles, so we don't need to rush to the main campus to have our meal. We may buy a cup of coffee from Starbucks during the lecture break too! Another factor is transportation. If you go from Kowloon or the eastern part of Hong Kong Island, you can get off at the West gate, where you can get to Haking Wong Building by walking up the stairs and then taking the lift. You can go back by reaching the Hill Road bus stop through the flyover called '勁過橋' (Super-pass Bridge as directly translated) right next to the Run Run Shaw Tower. When the university's MTR station was put into practice, reaching the campus will be even more convenient! As to learning facilities, most of them are relatively clean and new. The Chi Wah Learning Commons, Music Library and Law Library are the ideal places for study.

There are small break-out areas on most floors, which are great for studying or holding group meetings. Be weary of when you need to get to class -- lines for the elevator can get quite long during peak hours. Similarly, don't be surprised if you need to wait for a few elevators to go by after class is over to take you back downstairs.

I spent all 7 years in KGV and most friends I have now in Hong Kong, I have either met then, or through people I met there. When I was studying, I really took it for granted, but looking back, it's a great school. Arguably one of the best in Hong Kong I think. I mean, come on! we have a big ass field, basketball courts, tennis courts, pool. Our facilities are one of the top and without the huge price tag or stress. (I'm not sure how DBS boys study so hard AND have time for extra curricular to make use of the facilities?) There were many fun activities throughout the year including dance shows, music competitions, battle of the bands, spring fair, etc. But I think KGV really teaches you (and not just the teachers, but the students) to be humble and well-rounded. We're well off but we're not snooty and know the value of money, even the super rich ones! Also many students come out in all disciplinarians. Many in finance, doctors, law, art, fashion, music, teaching. It's really a wide variety and many didn't get it through connections either =p. Students graduate going to top universities whether it's in UK, US, Oz, Canada, HK, etc. I believe KGV also has a very high average IB score now too! I've had many good and bad times in KGV, but I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Although once I have kids, I would probably just pick the school most convenient to us, but I will try my very best to put them in an ESF school. The teachers are great too. Many of us are still facebook friends, although I don't really see them anymore. This is a special place to all CU people, alumni, students, staff alike…read more This is also a place of deep emotional attachment to i believe all who have studies in CUHK. Located just in front of the university library, this is more than mere a sculpture. Rumors have it that whoever dares to pass thru the arch of the sculpture, he or she shall never graduate from the university unless he or she rolls down the steep flight of stairs next to chinese culture research center. I am not sure how true the rumor is, but i rarely see people date to pass through the arch. It is also a place for big events to take place. In the university dance community, during the first semester there will be joint-U mass dance; dance teams of different universities will flock to this part of CU for a show. The statue serves as a backdrop to witness the show. While in the past it was actually the place for student to hold forums to discuss political issues, a place for different opinions to voice out. It is also a place to gather and to unite the students as an entity to represent themselves in critical times. As an alumni, this is a place where I feel proud of; for it is a symbol of the students in CU has a deep tradition in playing an active role and standing firm on their own grounds. CU is a place not only to gain knowledge, it is also a nurture ground for social responsibilities.

When I was a senior secondary student, I always dreamed of getting into this beautiful university with the longest history in Hong Kong. As an Arts student, I particularly love this iconic building of the Faculty. Thus I went there to commence my first day of study. It's like stretching out of my comfort zone and starting a new chapter of my life here in HKU. In fact the first day I stepped on this campus was the Registration Day. The first stop was exactly the Main Building, the oldest structure in HKU. We climbed up the stairs to reach Loke Yew Hall, which is the grand hall in the building. I felt excited to get into the hall, and I couldn't imagine I really became a student here until I finished the registration process. That was it - it wasn't a dream at all, it's real! Sometimes when you're accustomed to something, you start to overlook its beauty. It's true. I had this kind of feeling after I guided a tour for some university students from the Mainland. After being here for a year, I appeared to take everything for granted. When I had tutorials in the Main Building, I just rushed here and rushed back to the Centennial Campus for other lectures. Even though I had time I seldom thought of having a relaxing stroll around this historical building. Yet when I accompanied the Mainland students in their visit, I started to view this place as if I was a visitor who hasn't acquainted with it - the whole picture with the symbolic clock tower, the courtyards, the tall palm trees, the red bricks, etc. is just perfect. This is where everyone studying in HKU can relate to. This is where we belong. This is the unique beauty of our campus. Though now the Faculty office has been moved to the Centennial Campus, the Arts atmosphere here is much stronger. The peeling posters on the boards, the former staff office, the labels of the Faculty and Schools still remains. How relaxing it is to have lectures in this heritage, and to read on the wooden bench facing the clock tower. Hope I'll have at least a chance to have a lecture, especially English Studies, here, and try immersing myself in this superb environment - no need to rush for the next lesson! During graduation season you'll usually see fresh graduates wearing their gowns and caps here. Hope three years later I'll take a series of graduation photos here with my beloved ones!
