Bánh Mì Kitchen - Beef Brisket Banh Mi (HK$60)

Bánh Mì Kitchen

***Beef Brisket & Char Siu- both are killer***…read more As I've been ranting in a previous review of mine that after my office moved from Central to Kwun Tong.....I've been trying to widen my "Search for Great Eats" in Kwun Tong. Well.... that SEARCH has NARROWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY, after I discovered the Kwun Tong branch of BANH MI KITCHEN. I guess my only complaint is that they get Sold-Out so fast!! Perhaps next time I should arrive there at the opening time of 8:00 AM sharp.... which should be easy to do since the shop is located right inside our office building . So far I've tried CHAR SIU Banh Mi and BEEF BRISKET....both of which are absolute killer sandwiches! One can sense on first bite, that top quality pork and beef are used in both items. The Beef Brisket meat is so tender it almost melts in your mouth....need I say more?? These two sandwiches are perfect for a Carnivore like myself Portion-size is good and should be sufficient for most people.... and this is coming from a guy who once finished-off 1 Large Pizza, 1 Cheeseburger and a milkshake..... all in a SINGLE MEAL (as part of a bet, which I obviously won). I guess the next order of business would be to try their two types of RICE PAPER ROLLS, and the other Banh Mi available on the menu (I had stopped reading after Char Siu and Beef Brisket the last time).... such as the Cold Cut Classic.

No frills Vietnamese restaurant that serves a variety of types of Vietnamese cuisine from regions…read moreacross the country. Food here is good and is a good place for a quick meal. Will get really crowded during lunch time (weekend or week day) and I would expect to wait for a table if you come after 12:30pm. They do offer delivery through Deliveroo but there is a 15-20% markup from the price in the restaurant. Food: 4 stars Service/environment: 3.5 stars Value: 4 stars Overall: 4 stars Recommendations: pork chop over broken rice, fried spring roll, beef banh mi, fish cakes, Vietnamese coffee My favorite thing to order here is the porkchop rice. The porkchop is cooked with lemongrass and served over coconut rice. It is also paired with a cold egg omelette. Really delicious and filling The spring rolls here are also good and is one of my barometers for a quality Vietnamese place. The pho and Bo bun hue are pretty good but not great and I don't think the soup noodles are the highlights of this place. The banh mi here however is quite good and you won't go wrong with either the pork or beef versions. They don't serve a classic pate banh mi which is a bit disappointing.

A solid 4 stars out of 5! I prefer bep but this comes…read moreclose. The shaking beef was amazing and the bun xuong nuong. You have to try the Vietnamese iced coffee, it is to die for !!! Overall a great experience and will be coming back for sure.

Cafe Hue is hidden away (haha - get it?) in a side alley next to King's Road - about a 10 minute…read morewalk from the North Point MTR station. I probably walked past the bright yellow Cafe Hue sign on King's Road a hundred times, but never had the chance to go in for a taste. But when the opportunity came, I persuaded my mom to go with me for lunch. The restaurant interior seats about 40-50 people. It's not very big, but when it's not busy, it can also feel a bit empty. This is your typical casual Vietnamese restaurant - nothing too fancy. Tables are clean and well-kept. Just remember to bring your own packet of tissues or buy one from the cashier. Weekend lunch sets start at HK$42 and can go up to about HK$60, depending on whether you add an extra cold drink. This is quite inexpensive as the Vietnamese pho sets also include a small appetizer. My mom ordered the beef pho with a Vietnamese pork rice roll (set price HK$48) and I ordered the Hue Soup Noodle (my closest guess to Bun Bo Hue) (HK$42). The beef pho was refreshingly delicious, it did not let me down. A good portion of beef with a solid broth; the beef to noodle ratio was just right. As for my Hue noodles, I didn't have too high of expectations - it was spicy, but lacked some of the strong flavor I tend to associate with BBH. BBH aside, it was still a good bowl of noodles. I'm curious to go back and try the other lemon grass soup noodles and other rice dishes -- prices are affordable, will have to see if they pass the taste test too.
