The Mills was an escape from the giant centers with name brand stores. This place was transformed from what was the old textile factory. It even has a textile museum that's free of charge! However, it is a bit hard to find but it's definitely a must see if you visit this place. We also loved the play space on the 4th floor which charges by the hour. The place was pretty empty on a Thursday which was a nice escape from the crowds. Only downside is there weren't a lot of shops to walk through.

Formerly a textile factory, the Mills is no other and houses many little cute shops, galleries, and I believe a museum/exhibition type place. It was about a 20 min walk from the MTR. I loved the overall vibes and aesthetics (aka great for cute pics) but the stores were definitely a little pricer. It definitely reminded me of PMQ or the newer Central Market but felt that the signs were not as clear than the others. Would recommend if you are into arts, looking for a specific gift for someone, or just exploring new places to go!

Most of them praised the exhibition there was "great", "excellent" and they enjoyed the visiting and also, stated that they would come again and encourage their friends to come here as the exhibition was "informative". Moreover, the exhibition and also the museum itself can let the visitors know more about the development of Tsuen Wan and Hakka culture, for example, a visitor has stated that the video clips and the displays made him know more about the Hakka culture such as the Hakka women, the traditional Hakka snacks and the architecture characteristic of Hakka people. The Sam Tung UK museum was a place to display the Hakka culture and history because Sam Tung UK itself was the heritage for the Hakka lived in the past. However, there were some limitations in presenting the Hakka culture. The Government should make some changes to eliminate those weaknesses. Also, the exhibition such as the Rice agricultural was displayed since 2008. It should be changed to another and thus to catch the attention of more visitor. It stills a good place for us to connect the history and culture of Hakka. When I have visited here, I really had that feeling. It is so amazing and I feel great to connect the history here.

I went to the University of Hong Kong to simply poke around and explore a bit, but anchored by my interest to find the University Museum and Gallery (UMAG). I took the MTR to the HKU stop and got out at A1, per their website suggestion. Although HKU is extensively hilly and full of step, stairs, twists and turns, if you just stay on Bonham Road, you will find the museum and the Bonham Road route is relatively flat. The museum itself was once called the Fung Ping Shan Building (a historically registered building no less!) and is located next to the University's main entrance on Bonham Road. This three-storey red brick building was opened in 1932. With its extension to T T Tsui Building in 1996, the Museum changed its title to the University Museum and Art Gallery. If you go to the museum, you will distinctly know when you are going from the historical old buidling into the new wing. It smells old, it looks old, it feels old...the creeky wooden floor boards reminds you of its historic significance. The UMAG collection has mostly antiquties, notably bronzes, ceramics, paintings, furniture, laquer pieces and woodcarvings on display (or that was what was on display when I visited). They also have an temporary installation of the contemporary work of Robert Turnball called "Mexican Big Bang." This show is very different from the permanent collection and up my alley on contemporary! I thought it was great. The museum is FREE! My time there was meditative, reflective, peaceful and quite. This is a hidden gem that the average person would not know was here. There were very few people and I enjoyed just slowly mulling around and taking in the art on display. In addtion to simply wandering the campus of the university, which is green, lovely and don't forget hilly and full of stairs, I had a great time visiting and will go back sometime.

The Nestorian Bronze Crosses, Qianlong French Tapestries and Robert Lettner art were on display on top of the permanent collection. The museum is small but I really enjoyed what I saw. It was a good mixture of art and history. I particularly enjoyed seeing the old Chinese furniture from the Qing dynasty.

There are several reason for this I understand, but as such, the gallerists in this town are tasked with advocating contemporary art by the artistis and exhibitions they show, all while footing the prohibitively expensive overhead in doing so. I applaud them all for the weight they carry on this front. This is where uber cool places like Above Second Gallery come in hand. As collector and really just modern art (art made between 1860's-1970's) and contemporary art (art made since WWII and usually artists who are still living and producing work) museum enthusiast, I want to see and be surrounded by "art of the now." Above Second Gallery did just this for me with the show of Nick Walker. Often galleries can be intimidating and I understand why people do not stop and drop in. Art can be a discussion that people are not comfortable having because most people in the art world make non-art world people feel stupid. We know I speak the truth. The gallerist at Above Second Gallery was great. Down to earth, not pushing anything, teaching me a few fun facts about the artist along the way, very approachable. Now although I know alot about art, I felt like her attitude was not elevated and was welcoming to simply explore the work. Nick Walker's work showed really well in this little space. So go visit Above Second Gallery (or heck, just walk by and peer into their floor to ceiling windows and check it out from the curb if you are too intimidated to walk inside!) and see for yourself the cool contemporary art they have slapped up on their walls, because it does not appear you are going to have the opportunity to few it from a public museum any time soon.

The Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre is situated along the shore on Castle Peak Road, come…read morehere on a fine autumn day and you will enjoy uninterrupted views of Tsing Ma Bridge, Hong Kong Island and the airport in a distance. The house itself was actually built in the 1930s and had been used by a former financial secretary as official residence. The Centre was situated here for a reason: this is one of the very few places where you could actually see all the core programme projects- the Ting Kau Bridge, Tsing Ma Bridge, North Lantau Expressway and of course the airport. This was a project that is still unmatched for size and we are now enjoying the fruits of previous investment. The halls are split into several sections which displays and demonstrates the various components to the core project. The visions seemed impossible back then but when you think about it: we are living the vision now. The airport has moved for some 15 years and everything has been in place for just as long. This bring me back to the point that this exhibition centre now seems obsolete because everything has been in use so long. I would hope that this exhibition centre could be maintained though some updating would be a nice thing to keep it relevant.
