This park has basketball courts, public exercising equipment, fountains, large spaces where people can gather to do morning exercises, and a big lot where it hosts a lot of shows. Every so often there is something happenin including flower shows, food stalls during CNY, displays etc. This time it has panda displays with the 75th year of CCP.

Once again, I do sort of wonder how long this park will retain its name, though the suggestion is…read morethat maybe it will change in about thirty years time, that is in 2050 when apparently Hong Kong's automomous status will be reassessed. However, this park is basically the park where you will find one of those ubiquitous objects that are scattered all across the former British Empire, and that is the statue of Queen Victoria. Once again, I'm not entirely sure how long this statue will remain since I suspect that there will be a time when places will want to move on from their past.

Finding a quiet place surrounded by greenery is difficult to find in Hong Kong. The park has a…read moresoccer field, basketball courts, and tennis courts. Additionally there is plenty of benches to sit and relax. The park is relatively large if for Hong Kong but I wouldn't say this is a place that's suitable for running. I'm really glad that it is close to my office. I often come here to clear my mind and for a post lunch walk. I wish there was a natural grass area where you can sit down and have a picnic. Quarry Bay park is a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.

Jamie W and I were pretty much the only ones who walked into the park, which was totally fine by us. I was surprised to find out it was only built in 1991 because it felt well established as an urban oasis. Because it's on a hillside, the landscape is scrupulously terraced connected by leisurely paths festooned with flowers. The central pond was quite a draw for serious photographers with huge lotus plants, turtles sunning themselves on the rocks, and colorful schools of koi converging on the shoreline. The good folks at 8FIVE2 bring professional skaters to this park to go at flip tricks and just have a good time. Reason number two is it's open for 24 hours daily. You can come here late at night and still find a lot of people skating. Reason number three is it's a multi-purpose park; inline skaters, BMX riders, and skateboarders alike can enjoy the park. What's not to like? This park used to be for cycling only but has since been renovated to accommodate different kinds of skaters. I have found longboarders also use this park because of the downhill loop track. The feeling of the rushing wind when you're going fast is just surreal. If you don't know what I mean, go and experience it for yourself or watch the documentary of San Diego's Slomo, an op-doc in conjuction with the New York Times. As a skateboarder, tricks are optional, as the downhill loop is fun enough for me. I haven't tried inline skating here but when I do buy a pair of rollerblades again, this is where I'll first bring them for a try. After that, I'll hit up the various waterfront promenades in the city. The ledges can also be used for sliding and grinding tricks. The easiest way to get to the park is via Oi Kwan Road situated near the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Helmets are compulsory for all sports activities.
