There were questions about the height of shoe I wanted to wear them with, and when I asked if it could be done without actually cutting the fabric - I'm wearing flats now, but want to be able to wear them with heels in the future - the seamstress assured me that that wouldn't be a problem and they would be hemmed by hand. The whole process took a week and cost Hkd80, and I must say I am very pleased with the result.

I've come to that age in life where all my friends are starting to get married. It's like the opposite of the movie Wedding Crashers, where they have fun crashing weddings the day wedding season starts. I, on the other hand, feel the pressure of being in a relationship and unmarried. What I meant to say was I'm so happy for my friends... yea. Anyway, wedding season means suits, and a couple of them. Maybe it's just me but I'm never comfortable with people trying to sell me something, even if I want it! So being asked to enter every second tailor I pass makes me suspicious. I was going to enter, but then you asked me to enter and said you'd give me a discount. Oh boy, that makes me suspicious. I'm going to get a suit, but only from some one that doesn't want to sell it to me. The human psyche at its most moronic. Maybe it's just me. Luckily enough, while I was still a student, I happened to meet a lovely young lady whose family runs a tailoring shop. She never asked me to visit, or offered a discount which made me extremely eager to see the place. Remy Fashions is a small shop run by a man named Gary. He's obviously good at what he does because he sized me up the moment I stepped in the door. With an easy smile and measuring tape he confirmed my dimensions, and from there explained to me the different materials available, which ones for which climates, why I should have two buttons instead of three. Fashion things that I had no clue about. Two days later I returned for the first fitting. Gary wasn't there but his son was. The man was just as professional but slightly more convincing when it came to fashion tips, I suppose because his age was not far from mine! Another two days and I was able to pick up the final master piece, for a master piece it was, and still is. It's easy to feel like a VIP while being measured from head to toe for a suit that will only look good on you and Remy Fashions do it with precision and perfection. Since then I've returned to have another suit made... for another wedding... not mine.

From the moment I walked into the store, Vijay was extremely courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. He explained to me the entire process, and was patient as I asked many questions. He did not pressure me to buy or to upgrade, but simply tried to find out how he could serve me better. I ended up getting a tuxedo, vest, and custom tuxedo shirt. I was so pleased with the process after the first day, that I ordered 2 more custom shirts when I came back for my fitting. I needed 1 more adjustment on the vest, and Vijay was happy to do everything in order to make me happy. Unfortunately, Vijay had let me know he had to leave the day I was to receive the shirts. I had several shirts I wanted copied in different colors because I liked the style. He said that they used Thomas Mason fabric and since I was only going to wear these shirts occasionally, he recommended to go to Shamshuipo to the fabric market for less expensive fabric and they will make the shirt for me at a cheaper price. As a bargain shopper, that made me so happy! How many proprietors would suggest that?! Well I did that and I also used their in store fabric and have been happy with my shirts. Today when I politely asked the owner about adjusting the tapering of my jeans based on the new hem, she made a very bad measurement attempt and quite rudely responded that she will decide as she's the expert and "you [as a customer] will not understand what needs to be done". I also noticed that the owner took measurements while jeans were not folded/flat which would result in inaccurate alterations (although I did not mention this, it was purely an observation). I started to pay her for the service, however was dumbfounded when she began to berate me in Cantonese. I asked why I was being yelled at and told her I always supported her business. She explained that "you are not in this industry I don't need to explain to you". I finally asked for my money back. If you need alterations I'd recommend another shop in very close proximity that could provide a more professional service.

Anyways, I do not know if it ever occurs to you but if I were a woman, I would definitely get qi pao. Qi pao, also as known as cheongsam, is a tradition Chinese dress for women in the old days which celebrate women's curves nicely as it is very nicely fitting. Compare this Chinese gown to the male version of cheongsam, the women's one definitely looks nicer and more stylish even in the twenty first century. But where can you find a place that makes quality qi pao? I came across one in Olympic. Royal Fashion opened in 2005 and it specializes in making women's traditional Chinese gown and also jewels. Since I do not know anything about jade or those jewels, I am not going to comment on that. However, the qi pao here looks very legit and some on display look really fashionable that is going to get everyone's' attention if you wear that to go to an event. I must say that this gown is very difficult to carry unless you have a nice bodyshape. This is very form fitting and very tight to say the least. So I salute to those who have the body and the guts to actually wear this in public. However, if they do manage to pull this off, qi pao is actually very flattering and very alluring for some guys still.
