Looking for an affordable Japanese restaurant that serves a large variety of food? Watami has all…read morethe answers - but perhaps not the very best answers. The quality of food at Watami is average at best, but it does have one of the largest menus I've ever seen at a Japanese restaurant. A meal at Watami is cheap. Expect not to spend more than $90 and still be able to have a drink and some snacks to share. This makes Watami a great place to come with friends if you're craving Japanese - food is inexpensive and there's lots to try. One thing that's not bad here is the beef stone pot rice. If you've ever had the beef rice at Pepper Lunch, this is kind of what it's like, except the portion is much bigger. I've also ordered some sushi here - just good ole salmon sushi, which is alright. That being said, I've had my fair share of disappointments at Watami. On one occasion, my friend noticed that there were bits of grime on her dish. When she waved the waiter over, he took one look at the dish and just took it away to get a new one, as if dirty dishes here are the norm. Another time, my friend waited over half an hour for her salmon with salmon roe rice. We asked the waiters to check up on it at least three times, each time being told it was on its way. My other friend and I, both slow eaters, were done with our food by the time her rice finally came! Even though Watami isn't expensive, I wouldn't say that you get what you pay for, because I've been to places that are just as affordable or cheaper, but serve higher quality food and have better service. I still eat at Watami with friends sometimes, but out of sheer convenience more than anything else.

I wish they pace the dishes better and didn't slam us with all the food we ordered... The order of our food came like this... all within seconds of each other... 1. crab miso, 2. prawns, 3. grilled seafood platter, 4. tempura 5. salad, 6. grilled fish, 7. sashimi platter 8. more grilled fish (encore) Seriously... there was only 1 stove for the 4 of us. (We made a reservation for 6 but ended up with 4... yet, you will still only get 1 stove if there are 6 in your party). While my friends were busy talking, I was busy stirring the crab miso, making sure they didn't burn. And then everything else came... It felt like chaos. Although our server did help us with how to grill some of the dishes, it felt very disorganized and rushed. I mean, when the tempura and salad came at the same time and the crab miso is ready to be consumed... which one should I eat first??? This really took a lot of points off for me. Otherwise, I really like this restaurant and would return.

The Bottom Line: A cute cafe with solid food. Worth a visit!…read more Try: Chicken Katsu Pro: The food is well priced, and tasty to boot. One of the better bang for your buck places in the area. There are other reviews that talk about the fusion cuisine, but I went straight for comfort food and it didn't disappoint. Con: The staff is pretty hard to get a hold of, but this could be blamed on the layout of the restaurant.

If you have no idea what fusion cuisin is, I would suggest you to come to this place; it is not…read morestrictly speaking a restaurant known for such, but somehow, the dishes here have a very strong sense of "fusion". Fusing Japanese cuisine with western style cooking. Favored by many locals, this place is always packed with people, not to mention the lines at the entrance, it might be a 10-15 minute wait at least before you can be seated. It is honestly quite a decent place to eat in no matter what time of the day; for brunch there are eggs and bacon, for afternoon tea, the toasts and desserts are quite appetizing, whereas for dinner, the pizzas and pastas most certainly could be your full blown meal. The reason why I would describe this place as fusion mainly is because of the way this restaurant takes classic western dishes. Pasta cabonara, both a classic and a standard dish in every western diner, Suzuki has it but topped with a soft boiled egg, not just any, but a japanese onsen tamago. The still liquid yolk meld into the sauce to give extra richess and flavor to the sauce; or a pizza topped with shrips and wasabi dressing which revolutionize your impression on ordinary pizzas. As a cafe, the quality of the quality of the coffee plays an important part in the making or breaking of the cafe; suzuki has tight control in the process of bean selection, roasting as well as brewing. With such passion and dedication, the coffee of Suzuki is rich but not astringent, aromatic but not pungent; it might very well be a perfect cup for to end a meal or to go with your afternoon tea sweets. A japanese take in classical western cuisines, thats what i call propper fusion cooking; it is innovative but at the same time reassuring and comforting.

I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MATCHA! Wish we had one in DC!…read more My family and I came in for an afternoon dessert/pick me up. My girlfriend and I ordered a cold and hot dessert to sample and share. The cold dessert was a matcha jelly paste in a wooden contraption that you push out into a cold ginger and orange peel broth. With the broth, you get chilled mochi balls, a delicious sweet red bean paste and a dollop of minced ginger. The hot dessert was steamed mochi balls with sweet red bean paste. Accompanied with matcha powder and hot water. You add the water and liquid sugar to your powder to your liking, however I love it without the liquid sugar. All in it's natural form. Delicious! ALL MATCHAS MADE IN HEAVEN! Both desserts would very delicious, simple and definitely combinations we could make at home. But when you're out and about, it's nice to be able to stop in and have a light and refreshing dessert. And this is the perfect place! They also have food on their menu, but we weren't hungry for savory. Prices are on the higher end. Service is good, but very slow. Plenty of seating, located in a shopping mall.

The service was a little slow because it is on the smaller side. My friends and I had to wait half an hour before our first sashimi dish arrived. We came to the conclusion that they probably lost one of our papers. The sashimi platter was just alright. The sweet shrimps were small and the other types of fish just weren't that great. We also tried their fish head which was average. The Nigiri's were just okay. The drink selection was pretty limited as well. Desserts were also limited. You can probably just skip this place, pay the extra $40, and have a way better experience at Deluxe Daieiki!

It is not in an area that anyone would usually walk by unless they come around here a lot, and I was only there because a friend told me about it. They have a menu that is full of trendy terms like "prawn broth", "truffles", "collagen" and the like. I love ramen, trendy or not, although I'm a bit wary of trendy ingredients because those ones tend to look better than they taste. That is exactly my thoughts after having the ramen here. I got the ramen with prawns. The prawns was not especially good or flavourful, and the broth was just so-so. The noodles were not bad, but not nearly chewy enough. This place is very popular, judging by all the people coming in despite the location. I just don't know if it's all that.
