Your doctor will more than likely have their own recommendations, but if you are coming directly, I would recommend ASA Physiotherapy Clinic. With five locations across HK from New Territories to Island, there will probably be a branch near you. I recently needed some treatment, and visited Dr Stephen Wong at the Central branch. Dr Wong was really cheery and good natured, which made me feel instantly at ease, and his consultation was very thorough. He prepared a comfortable and easy to follow treatment plan involving ultrasound, electrical therapy and exercise, which was administered by his nursing staff. Depending on your insurance, you may be covered, either outright or "pay first, claim later". If you are not covered, treatment only costs HKD600 per session, per affected area. Be warned, the clinic only takes cash or cheque. No EPS, no credit cards! The services they offer as part of their physio, include; acupuncture, manipulative therapy, laser therapy, ultrasound, hot & cold therapy, deep thermal therapy. To be honest, I have no idea what half of these are, but the doctors will guide you in what is best for your injury. Hopefully you will never need physio, but if you do, I would recommend paying ASA a visit.

I was referred to come here by my PCP and I am so glad I did, Eddie and the team at Peak…read morePerformance took excellent care of me and were so pleasant to work with. Making an appointment is super easy, all of it was done via email. And any follow up was also easily handled via email. Iris was friendly, extremely responsive, and flexible. I did not know what to expect coming here as I had never been to a physiotherapist, so I came straight from the office in work clothes. Seems obvious, but my tip to you is don't do this. Dress accordingly. Before the actual physiotherapy, Eddie sat me down for a good amount of time and asked me several detailed questions about my lifestyle and really took the time to understand and assess my situation. He even asked me questions about how my desk was set-up at work, how I sat at my desk, how I slept etc. He was genuine, friendly, very positive, understanding (and not judgy) and I felt that he really cared to gather all the information needed to find the root cause. I felt comfortable with him and really got the sense that he sincerely cared. We did a few quick exercises and went into the physiotherapy. It was a mix of relaxing and nauseating (at no fault of his), and he did warn me it would get worse before it got better. I left feeling worse than I when I arrived and raccoon eyes from a few tears because I am a wimp, but Eddie had taken the time to explain everything to me beforehand so I knew what to expect and he was absolutely right on all points. From the therapy and days after, everything he said would happen really did happen. A few days later after the soreness subsided, I truly felt 100% better! I may have even felt better than I had in a long time. Eddie showed me some exercises to do at home and after the appt, he also emailed me my exercise-to-do list with pictures so I could print it out. They are so thorough here. I wasn't able to keep my follow up appt due to my work/travel schedule, but I have been meaning to go back. I really felt in good hands with Eddie and his team, they were so kind (seriously, all so nice and full of smiles!) and knowledgeable, and most importantly, I trust them. Friendly, professional and highly skilled, I highly recommended them!

I was a little wary of even starting because I'm pretty sure the pain I am having is very similar to the times I had before my other surgeries. I had my first appointment which started right on time and I began exercises after giving a brief history of my knee problems. One week later, and I'm seeing so much improvement. I'm able to walk for longer periods of time without feeling the oh so familiar pain. Does this mean I don't need surgery again? I'm not sure until I see the doctor, but I do know that all the muscles in my leg and butt are much stronger and stable to support my knee. Physio Central is equipped with update workout machines and techniques to provide you with great rehabilitation. The therapists are trained around the world and are very professional and efficient. They work with children and have toys and games in the lobby to keep them occupied while waiting. The focus here is in getting you better so that you can go back to enjoying the actives things you like to do before your surgery. As an ex collegiate athlete, it's important for me to get treatment so that I can continue to be active and not just functional. Physio Central provides great treatment for you to get back to doing the things you like to do.

If you are looking for a Chinese bone-setting clinic (跌打) in Kowloon city, come to Fong Hung Chi…read more(方鴻智) bone-setting clinic. This place has been opened since 1987 and the owner Dr.Fong has over 50 years of experience. It's a family business passed on for multiple generations. My sister sprained her ankle and Dr. Fong was the one who fixed it. This is how it works: 1. Dr Fong examines and analyzes your injury 2. He puts on his own proprietary bone setting cream and alcohol & massage to loosen up the injured ligaments / tendons 3. He wraps your injured area in a natural herbal patch and cover it with bandage. 4. The herbal patch needs to be wrapped on your injured area for eight hours before removal. Something to highlight about Dr. Fong 1. He is a certificated acupuncture and Chinese medicine doctor with a speciality of bone setting. He is a member of the Chinese Acupuncture Association and Hong Kong registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association, so do not worry, he is definitely a legit doctor with the right certifications. Tips: 1. If you want to get better as soon as possible, don't be lazy and come everyday to get a new herbal patch. If you absolutely can't come everyday, Dr. Fong also offers a take home kit. It's similar to the tiger balm pain relieve patch. It doesn't work as well as his proprietary herbal patch, but it's better than nothing right ? 2. Keep in mind the clinic opens Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 8:00pm. Make sure to call and make a reservation.

Thank you to the full central health team for years of great service in Hong Kong, and many more to come.

Central Health was originally a obstetrics and paediatric health care service, but has since become…read morea full GP/family practice care centre. In fact, many patients are probably there for general practice health concerns now anyway. However, the practice has continued its excellent reputation in obstetrics and child health care, as if evidenced by the number of pregnant ladies and kids running around! Nearly all (I think bar one) of the doctors are trained overseas, UK, US, Oz, and are excellent healthcare practitioners. I wouldn't go if they were not! They cater heavily to the ex-pat crowd, with the entire practice operating in English. Whilst the practice is a general care centre, they do continue to specialise in obs and gyny, and paediatrics. They also extensively cover psychiatry, psychology and counselling concerns. Unlike many of the practices in HK, Central Health unofficially runs an out of hours service. Of course if you need emergency care, you should ring 999, but if you need "emergency" care from your GP, existing patients can get it from Central Health, depending on the goodwill of the doctor. Appointments are usually quite easy to get at the Central clinic. There are also two other practices in Disco Bay and Southside. As with most HK health care, you will have to pay or produce your medical insurance.

Every Hong Kong girl has her go-to Chinese herbalist and mine is Dr Kelly. She is very kind and…read morepatient and really takes her time to understand your ailments and explain her treatments in western medical terms despite the long wait in the zen-like waiting room. Dr Kelly comes from a family of Chinese and western doctors- the Chain ancestors were doctors back in Ching Dynasty and her husband Dr Chain is a doctor. Her philosophy is blending traditional Chinese medicine with western alternate medicines like aromatherapy and various natural supplements. She also sells Chinese healing herbal teas packaged in western convenience- shrink wrapped tea bags that fits easily into purses for regular consumption. The clinic also boasts a stone energy chamber which facials and yoga classes are held for energy optimization. Bottomline: Dr Kelly, yoga class in stone energy chamber, acupuncture for weight-loss. is awesome.

Chain's is my jam. At the recommendation of another physio-acupuncturist (who wasn't qualified to…read moredispense Chinese Medicine), I started taking my mom here to help treat her mood swings and sleeplessness associated with Alzheimer's Disease. The treatments were very helpful in stabilizing my mom's symptoms. On top of that, the environment of Chain's is extremely warm, inviting, and calming. I love this place! Chain's has been in existence for literally hundreds of years - since the Qing Dynasty. It doesn't get much more legit than that, right? Dr. Kelly Chain and her husband head up the clinic, and they do a bang-up job. They not only offer the usual acupuncture/cupping/Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments, but they also have branched out into beauty treatments, such as natural anti-aging (i.e., no botox, fillers, and all that other nasty shit that you see SO MUCH OF in Hong Kong . . . ugh) and spa-type treatments. They even offer a yoga class, which takes place in their "stone chamber," a room made of maifan stone with special energetic healing properties. If you're feeling really shitty and come in for a cupping and/or acupuncture treatment, they'll set you up in the stone chamber to give you a little bit of a boost from your treatment (and not upcharge you for it). I started coming to Chain's for cupping/acupuncture/TCM on a weekly basis, after I saw the results on my mom. The results were incredible. Without delving into too much detail, Dr. Kelly and her colleague Dr. Kay Tam (she is phenomenal!!!) were able to rebalance my chi using needles and TCM, and they corrected a hormone imbalance that I had been struggling with for YEARS due to my refusal to "correct" it with western medicine (sorry western doc, but you ain't gonna just put me on The Pill and think that's gonna solve all my problems). I also came down with probably the worst flu of my life while I was living in Hong Kong, and Dr. Kay Tam fixed me up good as new with 2 cupping treatments, a bunch of acu-needles, and TCM. Chain's has made me an acu/TCM addict (in a good way!), and I will be getting my fix every time I return to Hong Kong to visit. Bonus: most medical/health insurance plans offer coverage/benefits for acupuncture & TCM, so claim that shizz!
