Situated…read moreright below New Town Plaza and the MTR station, this terminus has stops for dozens of buses bringing you to places all over the New Territories. You can take buses here to Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan and Sai Kung, among many others. You can even get to Disneyland via the A42, and the airport via the E42! The terminus is split into four platforms - platforms 1-4. It doesn't matter if you don't find out beforehand which platform the bus you want to take is at, because there are arrows that that will point you to the right one. Plus, you can always have a quick scan over the bus stop signs yourself or ask the staff in the terminus office booth at the middle. Honestly, I hate waiting for a bus at the terminus during the summer. Like any other terminus, it's hot and the exhaust from buses starting and stopping only adds to the heat. The ventilation here is poor, making a ten-minute wait seem like an eternity. If you look at a line, pretty much every alternate, or every third person, is fanning themselves with a flyer or a newspaper of sorts. But there's no denying that this terminus is convenient - if you live nearby but not in the town central, you can take a bus or the train here. If you take the train, take the exit out New Town Plaza, head for the escalator and you'll be at the terminus already.

It's where everyone goes to shop and eat when they get tired. Plenty of fast food options. There's of course an Apple store close to the station. I make sure to visit this station due to the shopping malls. I found it insane on a Sunday morning when people were walking quickly to their destination. Or getting to other stations in the system. Even to leave Hong Kong for the day to head up to Shenzhen.

I found this station to be very convenient. I would take a bus from Ma On Shan to Sha Tin so I could travel into the city. The train station entrance is close to the bus terminal so I could easily catch the next bus back to home base. The station is also located next to two malls, Citylink Plaza and New Town Plaza. Very convenient if you are trying to get a number of shopping errands done at once. As for the station itself, I didn't find it too hectic. It is far enough out of the city that it does not get too unruly. Though when you exit at this station, it can get crowded with people taking the same escalator up. If you can handle some walking, there is a staircase further down the platform that is hardly used. As a feeder station to other parts of the New Territories, I commend the great public planning done. Particularly how short the walking distance from Sha Tin Station to the malls and the bus terminal was.

Mind you, this station becomes pretty packed, namely because it is in the centre on one of the main shopping districts. As it is open air, you deal with the elements here. Though the station is partially covered. I took the 85K bus to and from here only a daily basis while visiting Hong Kong. Never had to wait very long for it either. Usually was able to catch the bus just before it was leaving. There always seemed like another bus was just around the corner every time one left the station. While I felt like I was staying in the boonies, knowing that I could hop on the 85K to get to Sha Tin made me feel like the city was not too far away. Overall, this bus station does a good job in getting people to where they need to go. Public transportation in HK is just on another level.

The Octopus card is a great service, especially for tourists. They have different branches…read morethroughout Hong Kong, but I used the one at the airport when I first arrived. The card is like a debit card, except that you don't need to sign for it and they don't ask for an ID. There's a $50HK deposit that you get back when you turn the card in. You preload the card and use the card as cash. You can use it for the metro, bus, ferries, stores, fast food places, almost anywhere. You put it up to the scanner and it deducts from the card. There's no signature or ID needed. Whatever you don't use, you can get back when you turn the card in. The positive is that it's very convenient. I would just bring this card with me to the 7-11 by the hotel and just scan it. I didn't need to look for change for the bus or deal with the metro machines for transportation. The negative is that it's treated like cash, so if you lose your card you won't get your money back. I put just enough so that it would last me a few days. When the amount got low, I would deposit money at 7-11 or at the metro stops.

There is a fee for the card which is refundable upon return of the card and acts primarily as a debit for convenience stores, subways, and buses. Also, gives minor discounts from general fare and some nicer discounts for seniors. Any funds unused can be refunded back to you. You don't really need to overload it. Octopus Card reload machines are relatively easy to find in any subway station or 7-11. Was very happy that it save us time since we were a really large group using public transit and primarily a group of senior citizens so it made dealing with fees very seamless and headache free! First of all, it's the local's choice. (#1) More people line up for this A21 because it hits many if not most of the popular hoods in Kowloon. It is also only $33HKD each way, payable via the Octopus card. Drivers aren't likely to speak much English, so have it ready upon entrance. There are cameras all throughout the bus. If you think your luggage is going to get stolen, you can always keep your eye on the monitors within the bus. There is also semi-decent WiFi on the bus and most everyone will be on their smartphones within minutes of hitting the road. The ride is smooth and easy and like all things in Hong Kong, the AC is on fleek. I personally like to zone out with these rides, which is a nice departure from the fast paced nature of the city's culture. Of course, this ride isn't for everyone. It's a good 45 minutes pending traffic and sometimes you might end up sharing your seat with some random traveler who may or may not fall asleep on you.
