So Wing Wah isn't my favorite bakery for Wife Pastries. That probably goes to Hang Heung, which I'm kicking myself for not making it over there my last trip. But Wing Wah was so close to my hotel and this was my very last duty before heading over to the airport, so I settled. WW gets an award for best marketing/location, because their goods seem to be so widely available, even though they're just okay.
Service is friendly here and a little bit too persistent for some. The attendants will inquire repeatedly if you need assistance. I replied to them in Cantonese, informed them that I knew my HK baked goods, and they kinda left me alone.
Their wife pastries are OK. They'll beat anything where I live but that's like having a mediocre NFL quarterback play in the CFL. The pastries I purchased had a cute Mother's Day box, which was fitting since I was buying some for my mom. Their offering has some flakiness to it and it's got enough melon filling flavor for me to give it a passing grade. However, you can probably find better spots elsewhere, especially if you know locals.
The egg roll cookies were fine and my friends enjoyed them. The store is clean and lighted. Come here if you gotta get some Chinese baked goods for travel, because they carry pretty well, but just don't expect them to be the pinnacle of HK baked goodies. read more
