There are many places for Hainanese chicken, but this one for overall value and taste is not a bad choice. Especially if you order the set menu, which can easily feed an extra person over what they stated. The set menu also gives you quite a few options. For the bak kut teh (rib soup), the Malaysian style has a strong medicinal flavor, heavy with dong quai. The Singaporean one is loaded with black peppercorn. Either one will get your body warm up quick on a chilly night. For appetizer, my favorites are the coffee spare ribs, and the satay with the delicious dipping sauce. The salad, on the other hand, is not fresh and I definitely won't order again. For entree, needless to say I have to order the chicken rice. The chicken is very tender, but I would love the rice to have more fragrance. Another recommendation is the plum and lemongrass pork belly. You can't really go wrong with pork belly and the unique sauce makes it a winner. I've been to their location at Causeway Bay. This branch has a much longer wait (guess the food is very affordable in an upscale shopping arcade), and the service felt rushed and not as attentive as the other one.

The food is excellent, although the famed Sichuan dan dan noodles were a disappointment (good peanut sauce; over-cooked noodles). It currently also offers a few Malaysian dishes seasonally, and those were done pretty well. It was really empty for a Sunday afternoon- I do hope my review will change that- it's a good option for Sunday brunch if Sundays in Causeway Bay is your thing. Bottomline: their weekday executive lunch is an excellent deal- 4 course for under $100; order dishes rather than bao and noodles.

Monster Sushi, in Langham Place, is set up like most sushi joints, a little bit fancier than Sushi One or Genki. There are booths, revolving sushi, and tables for small groups. Quite big you'd assume, and you'd assume correct. Then why is it fuller than an egg every time I visit? A guaranteed wait of about twenty minutes during dinner time is required EVERY day of the week, the silver lining being that it must be doing something right. Inside the sushi itself is pretty good. Looking through the menu I saw a couple 'Monster" signs next to specific pieces. Do not mistake these signs for radioactive Godzilla sushis, although they very well could be. No they are just sushi, except the fish/meat is twice the size - hence the name Monster Sushi. On most occasions I go for the some old dishes. A couple monster eels, a couple monster salmons, some prawn tempura and a california roll or something. I still have my hair, and it's growing in the right places so I've safely ruled out radioactive Godzilla sushi. The food is served relatively fast and finished relatively faster. The quality is, like I mentioned, above average but it's just the wait that gets to me. I am not crazy about fermented tofu but I gave it a try anyways because i noticed that many diners had ordered this so it must be good, if you like fermented tofu to begin with. The place is kind of a dive and you'll have to share tables. It is always packed, but I've never had to stand in line. The service is typical Hong Kong, quick but brusque. No English menu.
