Just because it's one of my favorite buildings in Hong Kong!…read more On my first time in the city, the cab drove by Queensway and I saw it from the distance: what a cool weird building...oh wait, there are two towers...even cooler! So I did a quick search in the Internet to find out a little more about its architecture style and history. Lippo Centre was built in 1987 and it comprises two office towers. At first sight the towers seem identical but they are not: Tower II is around 14 higher (4 more floors). Its designer, Paul Rudolph didn't like symmetries and he not only designed two different 'twin' towers, but he gave them a distinctive shape that stands out in the Hong Kong skyline. Some people say you can see koalas hugging the towers but this is not the official version, so I'll leave it up to your imagination. Some interesting facts: the initial project envisaged a footbridge between the towers, but one of the owners disagreed with this idea because it reminded him of old warehouses in Indonesia; Rudolph did adapt the design to the city's aesthetic by covering it in shiny dark blue glass (he usually avoided shiny materials in his other projects). This is also one of the reasons why Lippo stands out from the rest of the buildings: in spite of being smaller than most of its neighbors, Lippo's color is unique. Although its location is fantastic, access to the building can get a little tricky in the maze of shopping malls and busy roads. I had to learn this, as now I have a fantastic view from the 20th floor every day from 9 to 5!

The decor has a rustic feel with the metal chairs and wooden tables. There are no worries about finding a hot desk because it's never really too busy there. Workground has everything one would expect out of a co-working space - coffee and tea, fridge, printer, lockers, meeting rooms, snacks, etc. Their prices are very competitive, coming in at $2,000HKD for a hot desk for 15 days a month. Lastly, their location is really convenient. It's about a 50 meter walk from the C exit of the Causeway Bay MTR station, and there are plenty of food options around.

The local is very convenient to subway and entertainment since it's right in the middle of everything. The decor is very minimalist modern. They try to give you the sense of a hipster modern boutique hotel which was a bit too minimalist for me since the rooms literally consist of a bed, bar table and small restroom with see through glass doors giving you no privacy even when you go to the bathroom. Okay for single traveler but if you have more than one person, you can be looking at someone sitting on the toilet. Not exactly the greatest view. The elevators are a bit nightmarish since it's shared with bars and restaurants from floors 1-5 which is open to general public. The lobby is on the 10th floor and rooms 10-15. It could take me 5 min just waiting for the elevators to come. The staff is helpful but way understaffed. When I was checking in there were just a couple of people in line for registration. But when I went down to ask some questions about the electric outlet adaptor (already provided hidden underneath a door on the bar), there were about 5 parties ahead of me at around 1pm. Took me 10 minutes in line to ask a simple question. They have around the clock security personnel at the ground level entrance and it does require your room key to access the floor for your room so I think security is decent.

Ah, Mirador Mansion. Sister to Chungking nearby that resembles the shadiness of Kowloon Walled City…read moremixed with the fairly average guest house services of motels. Why on Earth would anyone choose to stay here for their vacation in HK? Simply put, it is going to be the cheapest accommodations you're going to find here in the SAR. Be warned that not everyone can tolerate the conditions of the mansions. These 18-floor complexes are littered with various guest houses with bizarre names and rooms that may or may not have windows and a bathroom with a built in shower/toilet all-in-one. Did I immediately turn you off? Hope not because there is still a lot of value in staying in MM. We stayed at Wellyet Guest House in a small room with a hard Chinese-style double bed, a thin comforter, and a tiny bathroom. The receptionists were all very kind and made sure that we had everything we need even though it was cramped. This one also utilized electronic door locks for the rooms which is easier to carry around than a physical key. It's small, but decent for a few nights stay. With that said, it's absolutely an experience to stay at the mansions at least once. Mirador is arguably the better of the two since it doesn't get as much traffic, but you'll find that the guest houses will do what they can to make your stay comfortable. This one has less touts on the first floor but that also means less money exchangers, so head to your neighbors location for all your money needs. There are also multiple tiny lifts you can use around the building that I'm not entirely sure are recertified to run, but it's a risk we'll all have to take. Additionally, being able to stay in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui allows you access to the best skyline in the world plus some great dining/shopping options that are a quick MTR ride away.

Mirador Mansion is similar in style to the Chungking Mansions. It's a building (technically several…read morebuildings connected together) that houses a variety of business from shops, hotels/guesthouses, and residential. I stayed at a guesthouse here, so I'll leave the review of the guesthouse for that specific Yelp page. The building itself, lets be honest, doesn't look that great from the outside or the inside. That's not to say I felt unsafe or that it was horrible, but if you're expecting a 5 star high-end shopping experience this isn't it. There are plenty of Prada and Louis Vuitton Stores for that. There are several stores on the main floor, most being souvenir shops, currency exchange shops, and tailor shops. I believe there is a bakery or two as well. For people staying in a guesthouse/hotel in Mirador Mansion this is a nice touch. For anyone else it's probably not worth coming into these stores, unless you really need currency exchange or souvenirs (but those are everywhere in Kowloon). If you are like me, and do not look at all like a local (a.k.a you are not Asian and most definitely a foreigner) you will likely be approached by touts offering good deals on tailor suits or dresses, or deals on "designer handbags" and "rolexes." I hope it goes without saying that the designer bags and rolexes will not be real, they're fake, and you should think twice before buying fake goods. There are plenty of high end designer stores in Hong Kong if that's what you're looking for. The custom made clothes might be legit (there are a lot of tailor shops in Hong Kong and Kowloon), but that's not something I was interested. If you feel the same way just say "no thanks" and move on. While being approached by the touts (all over Kowloon, not just at Mirador Mansion) was annoying I (a 31 year-old woman traveling alone) didn't feel unsafe or uncomfortable at any point. This building is close to a lot of other shopping and dining as well, so there's no worry with that. There is also a Tsim Sha Shui MTR station entrance located right beside the building. The MTR will pretty much get you to any major tourist attraction in Hong Kong. It's also just a 10 minute walk to the harbour where you can take the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island (Mirador Mansion is on the Kowloon side). The elevators, it should be noted, vary to what floor they go to. There are elevators for even floors, and elevators for odd floors so be sure to get on the right elevator. The elevators are not big, and have a weight capacity, so if it is too full the elevator will not move until someone gets out. Sometimes there was a small line up (6 to 10 people), but I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes. In comparison I wandered through the Chungking Mansions and saw a 30 person lineup. Chungking was also a lot busier than Mirador, which made me appreciate my stay at Mirador Mansion more. If you're a budget traveler and looking for a place to stay then do some research on Mirador Mansion (not every hotel/guesthouse here is the same quality), because you might find some place to stay. While it's not a lovely building to look at, it's conveniently located, and has several amenities.

I worked above the 50th floor for 6 months. We have a connection. Even tossing away my "graduation goggles", I can say without bias that this is one impressive structure. If there's one word to describe why you should visit Central Plaza: VIEWS. Oh my view. Viewbulous. You can pay a bunch of money to go somewhere and get the same view, or you can go up to the 46th floor of Central Plaza for FREE. It's a 360 degree viewing platform that literally gives you one of the most captivating looks at Hong Kong Island. Have you ever watched fireworks over the harbour at eye level? This is where you can! Let's get things straight. Central Plaza is NOT in Central. 中環廣場不是在中環的 。It is however, in a very central location. It's connected by a network of bridges that lead to the Wan Chai MTR, the Hong Kong Convention Centre, and tons of restaurants and shops. Surrounding it is the bustling urban centre that is Wan Chai. It might not have any shops or restaurants inside (except a Pacific Coffee), but you're within a 20 minute walk of everything you need to survive at every price point: high end and low end restaurants, brand name and bargain shops, gyms, groceries, pharmacies...god, I miss that place!! Despite its humble surroundings, this gorgeous structure is anything but humble. Skim the HK Island skyline any day and you'll easily spot it. It's the 3rd tallest building, it's got a super pointy thing sticking out, and it lights up! Some of its tenants are anything but humble as well. You can see their personal Mercedes and Lambos parked out front where the taxis are. If you're lucky, you'll see the eccentric billionaires themselves (Mr. Cecil Chao for example). If you're a quick passerby, don't pass up the opportunity to check out that observatory deck. If you're ever lucky enough to work in this building, cherish your time here and take as many pictures as you can. I'm not sure I'll ever work in anything this majestic ever again. CHERISH IT!! If you want to get some really good views of HK for free, head up to the 46th floor of Central…read morePlaza in Wan Chai. This is a little known gem, as most people (and rightly so) assume that access to the building is only open to those working there. The viewing deck is in fact open to anyone who wishes, every day of the week and on Saturday mornings. Outside of theses times, building security tightens and you are required to show your tenants card. You could visit on Sunday mornings, and sign in as a worshipper, as there is a church (the worlds highest I believe) in the pyramid at the top of the building. If you do come by of a weekday, why not drop by the Pacific Coffee concession on the 2nd floor for a refreshment before heading up to the viewing deck. At PC, you are sure to get the finest HK service - mainly pointing, shouting and being rude right to your face. Sounds awful (it is), but nonetheless, it is an experience not to be missed though. Up on the viewing deck there is no seating, no other furniture, actually nothing, just the big open lobby area. However, you do get 360 degree view all across HK, from the harbour to the peak. It is an internal viewing deck, so if you want photos, you should push yourself right against the glass. Come by to kill 15 minutes and enjoy a coffee with great views. Just don't expect any niceties, like seats. This is after all an office building and not for us to look at the pretty skyline. Just another point of interest that you may want to read about on the Central Plaza website; the spire of the building is actually a clock that lights the time in 15 min increments from 6pm to 6am, using four blocks of different colours. There is a system to reading it, and it can be quite fun to try and work it out (maybe that's just me!).

T.O.P. stands for This Is Our Place…read more It's a five leveled shopping building with escalators in the middle and restrooms on the third and fourth floors. We enjoyed the tea shop on the ground level after we exited the MTR at Mong Kok Station. We found the rooftop garden where a few people were taking their smoke break. It was a nice place for us to have a quiet respite!

We were here a bit early as the majority of the shops open at 11am so we browsed around u til it opened to get a heads up on the potential return visit. Lots of escalators for easy access as well as an escalator for a quick exit to the ground floor is appreciated along with a charging area making it a great stop. Thank you!
