I honestly wish all bakeries could operate the way they do. There are no English signs and the workers do not speak much English at all. (#1) The place is old school and super local. Instead of grabbing a tray and serving yourself, in this setup the items are out on display in tubs and you point to each one that you want the worker to package for you. There is always a crowd here, so items run out quick. I love their version of the egg tart (蛋撻) and the wife cake (老婆餅) is one of the best I've had. A popular pastry is their hot dog pastry (腸仔包), which is fluffy and almost buttery with every bite. They have an awesome variety of shao bing (燒餅), which they bake and grill almost looking like stuffed pancakes, but they're usually filled with a sweeter ingredient such as bean paste (豆沙), sweetened custard (奶黃), azuki / red bean (紅豆), just to name a few. Everything ranges from $3-7 HKD, which in my book is extremely affordable. Try to target the items you want ahead of time and be sure to bring cash. Fortunately this was not too hard to find after spending some time walking from Yuen Long train station and wandering around. It was on a fairly busy section of a street closed to car traffic, where it can be considered as a short mini night market like strip. One look and you can tell this is a very old traditional business with a niche offering (and of course targeting a niche audience). Lots of very old school Cantonese classic dessert/snacks that are not sugared up the yin yang like a deep fried bacon beignet. They offer several samples, and I had the pleasure of trying several varieties, of which I instantly became a fan. Their signature peanut candy, is significantly tastier than the peanut brittle candy (e.g. See's Candies). Perhaps it is a result of using the Asian variety of peanut (likely by way of Indonesia) or a particular variety that has a more intense flavor than the ones grown in America (usually larger, less flavor even if you roast them). There is a nut candy plastered with black sesame seeds, that one is also quite a winner. The most interesting one has to be the candy made primarily with pumpkin seeds. It is hard to describe the texture but is unique in that I have never seen it before. It was an even a bigger pleasure to be able to see one of the employees taking a huge batch that was cooked, and laid out in one big giant goopy ball, and he was trying frantically to stir the mixture. My guess is that the next step, it has to be roasted, cooled then carefully divided up (and formed into bite sized cubes). Hard to beat fresh, hand made good chit. Labor intensive, but not expensive at all. There are no preservatives in the candies, so they will last at most two months according to the staff. Perfect gifts for families locally, or even abroad. Please keep supporting these traditional local businesses. If we do not do our part to keep them alive, they will start dropping like flies, and all we will be left with are high priced fusion or western trendy restaurants and bling shops. Don't keep chasing the next food trend, understand and appreciate food culture and history. And hopefully everything will not be lost.

Opera Cake - It originally created by Dalloyau!! Authentic opera cake is 3-layers of almond sponge with coffee syrup and chocolate cream and chocolate ganache. The strong flavour with joconde, buttercream, ganache and the glaze, tasted complex but amazing. Dalloyau cake - Almond meringue, praline cream and crushed caramelized hazelnut. It's chewy and nutty. Macarons - It's perfectly sweet and crispy on the shell. Molten cake - Molten cake was great but I would expect such a class pasty shop to make stunning dessert rather than mediocre molten cake. Crème brulee - It's favorable, creamy and tasty. Overall, all the desserts were great but not the best I had. For sure, they're the one of the best pasty shop in Hong Kong.

Its been always my first stop to shop for a breakfast take away before getting into the MTR for work. Pretty much everything is freshly made, every morning and day, Its always packed with lots of people so by afternoon everything is gone. The store shop got recently a make over but it still kept some nostalgia. Its always really nice to eat something that actually been baked from the shop and not been produced in a factory and then spread out over the city like e.g. Maxims bakery. The aunties working in the shop have been around here for a while and gives great and fast service. There was one time I was in really hurry and at the cashier I realized I forgot my wallet at home. She noticed that immediately and just told me its okay lah just come back next day with the money. I really appreciate this kind of local style attitude and service that people in the neighborhood still trust each other which you hardly can't see nowadays.

Since 1984, the bakery focuses on traditional treats. Loved the banana cake which is light and addictively delicious. The pan fried mochi with sesame seeds is so unique. The shop has a decent line that moves quickly. No surprise that it has been Michelin recommended and featured on Netflix. Next time, I'll try the wife cake.
