I felt I was leaving my blood orange trousers in good hands with the ladies at Wonderful Alterations. While they didn't get me to try them on (that might have had something to do with the baby strapped to my back), they whipped out the measuring tape and talked to me about where I wanted the new hem to go. There were questions about the height of shoe I wanted to wear them with, and when I asked if it could be done without actually cutting the fabric - I'm wearing flats now, but want to be able to wear them with heels in the future - the seamstress assured me that that wouldn't be a problem and they would be hemmed by hand. The whole process took a week and cost Hkd80, and I must say I am very pleased with the result.

Today when I politely asked the owner about adjusting the tapering of my jeans based on the new hem, she made a very bad measurement attempt and quite rudely responded that she will decide as she's the expert and "you [as a customer] will not understand what needs to be done". I also noticed that the owner took measurements while jeans were not folded/flat which would result in inaccurate alterations (although I did not mention this, it was purely an observation). I started to pay her for the service, however was dumbfounded when she began to berate me in Cantonese. I asked why I was being yelled at and told her I always supported her business.
