Katong Laksa is one of the few restaurants in Hong Kong that serves traditional Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine. They serve everything from snacks like satay skewers and kata toasts to laksa, prawn mee, mee Siam, beef rendang rice and Hainan chicken rice.
Among all types of food, my top favorite is definitely their signature laksa (if you cannot tell just by the name of the restaurant). The most important thing about a good laksa is the soup. You can definitely taste the prawn and coconut flavor in the soup. The authenticity of their laksa can be measured by the fact that they have this clam/oyster-like shellfish if you order their traditional laksa (#2 on the menu), which is hard to find in any other laksa I've tried in HK. For those who cannot eat very spicy food, remember to request for the level of spiciness that suits your taste.
Another recommendation is their Hainan chicken. You can either order it with the chicken rice or with laksa. However, sometimes they sell out of the Hainan chicken early!
I come here almost every other week. The staff are very friendly and some of them remember me. It surprised me a few times when I did not specify yet they served me with my customized laksa (without herbs and less spicy)!
This little eatery gets very packed for lunch hours after 12:30pm. I suggest if you have a big group, come early to avoid a long wait. read more
