While most stations have been retrofitted with those automated glass elevators that most Hong Kong commuters now take for granted, Tsuen Wan station appears to still be in the queue for such a retrofit, considering how it still features those manual elevators with metal shutters that you have to pull open and closed... if I'm not mistaken, a station attendant needs to be present to operate it. Other than that, this is still a good station. You have helpful staff, lots of amenities such as ATMs bakeries and convenience stores, as well as a bunch of shopping centres that are connected to the station. There's also a bus interchange for services that travel onwards towards Yuen Long and Tuen Mun, and if you board a train here, you're pretty much guaranteed a seat on the train.

I did not have the Octopus card and not really sure how to pay (as my ticket was collected after exiting the MTR). I went on the Light Rail anyway as it is a honor system and I can explain to the inspector should they ask. The Light Rail itself was efficient and frequent. The A/C worked well in the hot humid Hong Kong summer. It made frequent stops along the main thoroughfare in Yuen Long. That being said, this station unlike most of the others is not air conditioned. On the contrary, that's not too much of a problem since this station is serviced by the Tsuen Wan Line, so trains tend to come every 2 minutes. Over the several decades that this station has been in service, ridership numbers have grown drastically as the area around the station boomed into a densely populated residential and commercial area as well as a major transit interchange offering bus services to new territories districts like Tin Shui Wai, Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan, and by bus transfers, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. As a result, this station is often very busy, and having to line up very briefly to use the fare gates can be a regular occurrence. While a lot of people do board and exit the train at this station, you will more often than not be able to board the first train that arrives since the surrounding districts around Kwai Fong tend to prefer buses over the MTR, unlike the rest of the areas that this line serves. Being the transit cheapskate I am, I try to find the best possible deal for commuting, and I'm sad to say this station is not served by any $2 discount octopus card fare savers. Being someone who works in Kwai Fong but lives in Hong Kong, I went with the City Saver Card offered by the MTR, which has greatly lowered my commute costs. It can admittedly be a bit awkward to use since I'd have to find a turnstile that has a ticket slot to scan the ticket on exit, which occasionally means I get shoved by an impatient commuter standing behind me, but that definitely made my trip on the MTR much more affordable.

You can take buses here to Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan and Sai Kung, among many others. You can even get to Disneyland via the A42, and the airport via the E42! The terminus is split into four platforms - platforms 1-4. It doesn't matter if you don't find out beforehand which platform the bus you want to take is at, because there are arrows that that will point you to the right one. Plus, you can always have a quick scan over the bus stop signs yourself or ask the staff in the terminus office booth at the middle. Honestly, I hate waiting for a bus at the terminus during the summer. Like any other terminus, it's hot and the exhaust from buses starting and stopping only adds to the heat. The ventilation here is poor, making a ten-minute wait seem like an eternity. If you look at a line, pretty much every alternate, or every third person, is fanning themselves with a flyer or a newspaper of sorts. But there's no denying that this terminus is convenient - if you live nearby but not in the town central, you can take a bus or the train here. If you take the train, take the exit out New Town Plaza, head for the escalator and you'll be at the terminus already.
