This time across 3…read moremonths they have charged over HKD2000 for roaming when, aside from my data roaming turned off, my phone never works unless connected to Wifi, as in i have to reconnect to a new wifi whenever I move around. Hence there is no way I will have used any data roaming. The issue is no-one wants to help, 1010 simply pass me around to difference departments/people and noone does anything. I have been a customer for over 30yrs would you believe, and this is how they are treating me! Would not recommend them and suggest extreme care when abroad, this is the second time I have had issues with this same issue. Jeanette

Thanks to CSL and a collaboration with Discover Hong Kong, one can purchase a tourist SIM card for $88 for 5 days or $118 for 8 days. The local calls are unlimited, which is particularly handy with calling local friends, local services, and checking out local businesses (via the Yelp app, naturally). The real kicker is there is 4G data as well, up to 5GB of it. I've surfed extensively on it and even tethered with it, and it works extremely well. The local phone # assigned can last for up to 6 months and data coverage can be extended into Macau, Mainland China, and Taiwan for $40HKD a day with 40MB. It's not much, but it sure beats having to constantly swap out cards all the time. Since CSL is the other major provider in this card, one has access to a bunch of their hot spots located throughout the city. While the card is rechargable, it is only for voice calling to my understanding. Once the data is gone, the data is done. There is also an additional charge .45 HKD a minute for international calls, which is extremely reasonable compared to other local SIMs. If there is a line, wait for it. They have people in there who know how to install the SIM and activate the plan all without you saying a word or handling your phone. They're fast, efficient, and they accept credit cards. Anyone staying in HK for an extended period of time should definitely make this their first pit stop after arrival.

If you are looking for old systems, there will be a vendor here for it. Building your own, someone here will build one for you. Though things have changed since the last time I was here about 4 years ago. There were only about 75% of the vendors left here who are selling games, and gaming accessories. There was a whole downstairs underground level to the shopping center, however most of it was all computer components. There was also a huge thing about selling multicades here. For those who don't know, it's a unit with hundreds to thousands of games preload into a single unit. Many of them now are full sized control units which just needs to be plug and play. Beware if you are taking it back home to another country. Some of these units may violate some copyright laws. Also, the power supply may be different at home than what you have in HK, so buyer beware for both of those. Overall, still worth the visit. It still took us a good 2 hours to visit all the stalls, even with less vendors here. We still walked out of there with a bag full of games and vintage games (a couple of original game boy and a neo-geo game).

Situated on the second level in Southorn, the Computer Centre is right next to the B2 exit of the Wan Chai MTR. The setup is pretty simple; it is a maze of small shops that range from computer help to mobile repair to video games with an entrance / exit accessible only by escalators. The space is tight, with low ceilings and narrow hallways, which make this place somewhat claustrophobic especially when there are people crowding certain stores. My favorite time to come here is between 10-11am. Most of the shops are open and there is plenty of room to explore without the people rush. I've purchased mousepads, USB adapters, keyboards, camera memory, and basic electronics. Most of the things I've sought out can be purchased at any discount / flea market, but quality is a concern this is a good place to start. Every store has its own unique inventory, it never hurts to bargain and shop around. Always bring a smart phone with a picture of the desired item. It saves a lot of dialogue and keeps the shopping experience ideal. The prices aren't going to be as cheap as Kowloon, but it does the trick on short notice.

My husband found this spot for we were seeking a computer laptop repair. This place is packed with vendors working in all things IT...computers, cell phones, video cameras, cameras, TV, etc. You name it they have it. Dozens of vendors. We were on the top floor, as noted as the "professional floor" and being helped by AA I.T. Sytem Limited for our laptop repair. There are many vendors and many businesses, this is simply the one we selected. Purchase or repair...this was a good place to go. We would go back.
