My husband got the pinsa alla diavola, which was like a spicy pepperoni pizza. It was fine, but reminded me of a pizza at a kids' birthday party (1 star off), maybe only slightly better. I made a reservation a month in advance, but did not know I had to specifically request for tables outside on the river. When we arrived, only a few outdoor tables were taken, but was told the rest were reserved, so we were seated indoors instead. When we finished our dinner, the same few outdoor tables were occupied. I don't know why the restaurant couldn't just stagger the guests for the outdoor tables according to their reservation times.

As I said, I stumbled onto the restaurant because I was taking in the park where artists were painting, people were reading and I pulled out my phone to use the Merlin app to identify birds that were singing. Imagine the elation a few days later when someone in our group booked a dinner reservation for us at the same place I was regretting having missed! With a group of a dozen of us, I think someone ordered everything on the menu. We were all thrilled. We had appetizers , cocktails and entrees -- everything we had was great! The restaurant is family-owned and we were treated to the son being a primary server for our group. Now and then dad was part of the picture too and we enjoyed the added dynamic. Pretty sure the son is on point for Americans as his English was on point. They were great hosts!

Babičina beseda is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Prague. Went there for a family lunch on the weekend and it was packed, but we managed to get a table. I loved the atmosphere here - it lives up to its name and it makes you feel like you are visiting a typical czech grandma - it is furnished with old, wooden furniture in a truly typical style and extremely cozy. We ordered wild garlic soup and steak tartare for starters and also got a complimentary basket of homemade pastries - all of it was really tasty, the soup was creamy and had a nice mild garlicky flavor and the steak was seasoned perfectly. For mains I opted for a dish from their special daily menu - veal roast stuffed with wild garlic + peas purée, while the rest ordered from their regular menu - ox cheek with plum sauce & creamy mushed potatoes. The food came fairly quickly and as soon as it did, I knew I was gonna regret my choice - the roast was visibly dry and with a couple semi-burnt dried tomatoes on top. The peas purée was okay but I didn't enjoy the meat at all- it was indeed extremely dry and the wild garlic stuffing was tasteless. The ox cheek, however, which I got to try as well, was superb. The meat was wonderfully tender and the plum sauce was to die for. For a dessert we got "věneček"- a cream filled choux bun, which was light, fluffy and perfect. I got a cappuccino to go with it, which was really good as well. Overall, I really enjoyed our visit here and am looking forward to coming back. I would definitely order from their regular menu next time though, as it seems those are the meals they have already perfected - unlike the meals from their special daily/seasonal menus.

We decided to go with the tasting menu and wine pairing, and I'd absolutely recommend doing the same; it takes the guesswork out. Each course was very nice with Czech wines well matched and allows you to experience Czech wine and some Czech inspired dishes. The atmosphere was comfortable and a great spot for a date night or dinner. It's on the pricier side for Czech republic but still affordable, and the portions on a tasting menu won't satisfy someone looking for a big, heavy meal. Service was great. If you're in Prague and want a polished dining experience, and Zagat rated at that, La Veranda is worth it, especially if you go all in with the tasting and wine pairing.

We wanted to grab breakfast before we were headed to the airport but didn't feel like eating too much. First, they have a high chair, a huge plus for us parents. I got the mascara-done caramel banana pancake, which the server told us was a popular item. My husband got the salmon with cream cheese, and he said that was amazing. So unlike other places that usually stack pancakes and then put the topping at the top, this each layer has the filling, so each layer of the salmon pancake has cream cheese and salmon. The mascarpone and banana was the same each layer, filled with banana and cream. Highly recommend this little gem if you are around the area.

I ordered the pork with potato cakes, which actually just tasted like hasbrowns, and my bf got beef with fries. I feel like the way they cook their meat is different than the US but it isn't bad. It's just tougher/ over done. It was still really good and I enjoyed it. I also noticed that a lot of place that are open late the locals only come to drink and have small bites like French fries. It was a nice experience and this place was really close to our Airbnb. Definitely give this place a try if your out of town and have no idea where to go.

The owner of this place is so friendly and courteous. The restaurant offers a convenient English menu, and I highly recommend the rump steak. The place is small, so I am not sure how crazy crowded it can get. However, around 5-6 PM or so, it is rather empty and easy to find a seat. The steaks come with salad and vegetables. On the side, you can also order fries, potato cakes, etc. Again, the customer service is superb with a very friendly owner. The price is amazing too. For two rump steaks and sparkling waters, the price only comes out around $15 USD. You will not find this price anywhere in the US, not to mention that the steak quality is amazing. Enjoy!
