Zytglogge is one of the most notable landmarks in Berne, originating as the city's western fortification when it was erecting in the year 1220. The medieval clock tower has served as the guard tower, prison, clock tower and civic memorial. In addition to telling time, Zytglogge is also an astrological clock that is divided into three zones: the black night sky, the deep blue zone of dawn and the light blue day sky. This portrays the season and time of day, rather than operating on a 12-hour basis. It also includes a Julian calendar. Of course, every hour, a bell rings loudly throughout the town. Zytglogge is definitely a sight to behold. How often do you see an 800 year old clock? Viewing Time: 10 minutes
