Was visiting and looking for a sushi place to go and this place did not disappoint! The fish are fresh and the service was good! They also do not serve alcohol so it's BYOB, and thankfully there is an ABC store nearby to get a couple drinks! I would definitely come back here again my next visit to Kauai. read more

Visiting Kapaa Kaua'i for a week so we wanted to eat somewhere the locals love! Very busy restaurant! Always a good sign! 6 of us came in for dinner. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated... service was great and so was our food! Everybody in our party was happy with their food! My husband and I loved the sushi! AMAZING! The sashimi bowl was a good serving (12 pieces) of delicious fresh sashimi. The sweet potato tempura was so good. The Zumo rolls are a home run. Local resident and made a stop here for Sunday lunch. Since that first visit - I've been back 2 more times and it remains one of my new favorite sushi spots. Food presentation is consistently appealing, service is quick and friendly, and the food is delicious. My favorite is the salmon dynamite and green beans (appetizers). First impression, one of the sushi chefs was so nice. The restaurant was super busy and he assisted us right away letting us know someone will be right with us. After waiting about 30 min, after we called ahead and was told there was no wait, we got a table. Unfortunately once seated, we didn't get water or any utensils until after about 20 min of being seated and we had to ask for some. Once our order had been taken it took over an hour to just get our miso soup. I had asked about our order and the waitress said it would be right out. A party of 6 who was sat at the same time was finished and paid before we even got one main entree. After only getting 1/3 of our order in the matter of an 1.5 hours, we were going to order more but then the waitress took the menu out of my hands as I was reading it. After that we just asked for the check and cancelled the food we never got. The food itself was really good which was so disappointing because the service was so bad. The chefs all seemed very kind but once it got super busy it seemed like the attention was focused mostly on large parties. read more

I ordered a spicy shrimp roll to go. It was awful. I went to culinary school, and it tasted like the rice used to make the sushi was leftover rice from the walk in. There was no spicy sauce on it like the menu said, and the shrimp tasted weird. It felt like a bug was in my stomach last night. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this was irritating. We stopped by Zumo Sushi during our trip to Kauai and ordered three different sushi rolls--each one was really good. Super fresh, well-balanced flavors, and nicely presented. You can tell they know what they're doing with sushi here. The service was just okay--not bad, but not especially warm or attentive either. As for the atmosphere, it was fine. Clean and casual, but it could definitely use a little more vibe or character to match the quality of the food. Overall, definitely worth visiting for the sushi alone! read more

We ordered the gyoza, spicy edamame, tempura roll and red dragon roll. 1. Gyoza was tasted very doughy and I felt like it was warmed in the microwave. The filling was still hard. 2. Spicy edamame, they sprinkled red pepper flakes and drizzled soy sauce over the top. 3. Tempura roll. Since we had a late lunch I ordered light. The roll was so bland. The food is ALL good. I have been working my way through the menu for a few months now. I love the hand rolls, the sautéed scallops, the shrimp tempura. The service is attentive and friendly. Zumo Sushi is a nice little gem tucked away from all the hustle bustle. I had the Zumo Roll because that should be their BEST roll if it's named after the restaurant right? Well, it IS. I also got the Blackhawk and it was equally as delicious. The next taste test for me was the fried rice. Usually it's uncommon for fried rice to be good at a sushi place but IT'S WORTH EVERY BITE. I was still hungry after eating this dish! - Panang curry with chicken and white rice (8.5/10): Super yummy! We thought that the curry flavors tasted pretty authentic. We wished we had gotten a bit more rice, as the scoop was pretty small so we had a lot more curry in the end vs. rice. - Mango sticky rice (8/10): I've eaten a lot of mango sticky rice dishes in the past, and this one was pretty average. The mango was a good level of ripe, and the sticky rice had a nice, mildly sweet flavor. Our suggestion would be to pour the coconut sauce over the rice instead of next to it so the flavors soak in!

And she also told me about their neighboring fish market, if you want to get fish to make at home (we did not have time to check that out). To cap our our meal, we shared a piece of the Homemade Dolphine Ice Cream Pie and it was decadently delicious!
