A pleasant Mediterranean island in Berlin. Great staff, peaceful location, gigantic portions (even…read moreif unlikely to be fresh) with rich tastes. The real attraction of this place is the staff. I haven't checked but they come across as Italians who lived in Germany for some time, offering us a warm welcome and a professional, pleasant service throughout dinner, while speaking a combination of Italian and German (with a good command of English). Their honest recommendations and attention throughout the evening have been of the highest quality. We had two main dishes from the specials menu: (1) sea food (scallops and giant shrimps) with black pasta, covered with a rich and heavy cream. The pasta was good, but a little on the over-cooked end of the spectrum. The sea food itself was good. (2) The other dish was pasta with cheese and truffles: prepared right in front of us with much showmanship (see the photos). My friend was satisfied with the taste. The restaurant is located in the middle of what seems to be a residential area. It was practically empty. The menu is long and diverse so the likelihood of the ingredients being fresh, locally sourced daily from nearby farms fields is pretty low. The portions are massive (think US-sized) using lots of cream - which makes the experience a test for your stomach capacity, less a test for your taste buds.

It was quite simple -- just some pieces of thin beef. My friend ordered the red curry with duck. It was only 6,00 and a good size. They gave a significant amount of crispy yummy duck!! Another friend enjoyed his fried noodles, which was huge (7,50). The service was alright and the restaurant itself is spacious and clean. I'll definitely go back when I'm craving Vietnamese food because the place is right in my neighborhood. However, I'll keep searching for the better Vietnamese places!

You can always tell if a Japanese restaurant is good by their miso soup, and as a starter the Miso soup broth was above and beyond my expectation. We called the restaurant for dinner and they told us to come in 30 mins. When we arrived they told us we should still wait - which was fine, of course. After about an hour (!) they sat us down on a table and brought us wine. We placed our food orders. We were then told we couldn't be seated after all (even though we'd already ordered and were having our drinks) - without any sense of apology or awareness that it's inconvenient for us to have our dinner stopped halfway and told to leave. The waiter was extremely rude (I think the worst I've experienced in 6 years in Berlin) and argumentative rather than apologetic. I'm not sure if the management or staff has changed since last time we went there but this was a truly unpleasant experience and while I don't often review businesses, the service deserved 1-star (or less!)

The menu was very clear, in both English and German, and they also had specials. I liked the food a lot but the highlight for me was the tea. I ordered the Blooming Jasmine and it was kind of expensive. I think it's a gimmick because you can actually see it bloom in the cup but it tasted so good. That's one of my favorite teas. We could have skipped the calamari appetizer and gone straight to the main dishes because we were full. I would come back to try the different menu items and also the house beer.
