The bread and olives are complimentary and delicious. I ordered a salad which was wonderful. My mussels came and the sauce, OMG!!!!, so so good. So good for sopping with the extra bread. I ate all of the mussels and I was by myself. Then, my main course came. My Salmon was cooked perfectly. I would go back and have the exact same thing. It was that good. It seems simple but restaurants do get it wrong from time to time. Also, the service was superb. Two young ladies seem to run both inside and outside. Prompt and attentive service. Highly recommend this place. I'll be in Saarbrücken again on Saturday and I'm trying to convince myself to try a new place, but I'm probably just going to go back to La Bastille.

The decor is a little eclectic but nice. The food is an excellent value. The salad was simple but fresh. My wife had a noodle and pork meatball soup of the day that she loved. Everything is cooked to order and nice and hot. I had a schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese. It was very nicely breaded, just a little on the side of dry, with gooey cheese and some prosciutto-like ham. The croquettes were straight forward and good. The server was conversational and checked in once after the food came out, which is highly unusual for anyone used to German service. He also brought my wife a complimentary piece of pumpkin cake. A solid place for a regular meal. Looks like it could easily accommodate a good sized group. Make the trip!

I had the Gourmet Schnitzel stuffed with Camembert and Cranberries and it was very good. Also had and incredibly good Pumpkin soup and the Stammer Max. First time here so we went with traditional items for the most part. Nice wine selection, and menu items were fresh and as the menu explained local. Tried the "onion" soup (French Onion to some) and really enjoyed it. Had a couple different schnitzels and really enjoyed. Traditional and filling. In fact, with the appetizer had to get a small to go box... Quiet atmosphere, great service and would/will definitely come back to try other menu items, which there is a large selection. They also had a few autumn (pumpkin) specials that were available. Nice place.

The waitresses are kind, the older gentleman who tends to the place is super nice. It's clean, and the food is never a disappointment. I kind of don't want to write the review because I don't want every one to find out and start coming here, lol. Just know, if you want authentic German food, full of flavor and beautifully prepared and presented to you, this is your place.

We…read morehave it one more chance afterwards and decided it wasn't great enough to overlook the awful experience we had. We are new to Germany and have been to this restaurant several times. They have a diverse menu with a selection of traditional German dishes such as steak and schnitzel as well as pasta, fish, soup and salad. The food is high quality and nicely prepared. We love the quaint ambiance of the room and friendly, English-speaking wait staff. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

I don't know if there was a chef change recently, but to my mind, the food seems to taste even better lately. The servers recognize me most of the time because I am a regular which is cool. I try to order in German when possible but I see that all the servers know enough English (one or two speak incredible English) so any Americans who go should have no trouble ordering. I love their salad and soups. It is pumpkin soup season right now and their pumpkin soup is very, very good. My favorite dish on the menu is their Rahm Schnitzel. Very well seasoned and not at all bland. I go most often for lunch and they have an abbreviated lunch menu which changes and they will also let you order off the full menu which is nice. Not a lot of German restaurants let you order from the full menu during lunch hours. The only downside is that you can't pay in debit card. So have euros with you when you go.
