She's not a professional swimmer but she can swim. This is while other people of her age were doggy paddling and swimming with similar level of swimming skills. It was very obvious that our foreign language made her nervous and she just assumed based on her prejudices that a non dutch middle eastern woman cannot swim. When we asked another employee and manager to just watch her swim so they can see they were wrong they did not allow her to even show them she can indeed swim. Extremely humiliating and rude.

I like the electronic wristband system for getting in and out and also for the lockers. There are many many activities to choose from. I only have experience with the lane swim, but there are designated time for women swim, endurance and swim stroke training (I want to check that out), gay swim, and they also have nude swimming. Maybe doing laps in the nude makes you more efficient? Basically, it seems like whatever you are looking for they have it. The cost of a drop in lane swim is EUR 3.80. You can get a pass for 12 for EUR 38, so basically 2 passes free...not a bad deal and seems to be competitive with some of the pools further away. My only issue with this pool is the same issue I have with all pools in Holland....why why why are so many lanes dedicated to breaststroke and leisurely swim?! Where is the pool where all lanes are open to people who are training/freestyle/swim workouts? I'm not a fast swimmer by any means (I am quite). But I would like to be able to do a swim workout in a lane that is not too too slow or too too fast. Why why why are so many people doing the breaststroke?! Truth be told, if you are looking for a pool where you can get some good swimming in (and, leisure swimming, too!) Het Marnix will suit you just fine. You may just end up in a lane with fit Dutch men that are faster than you, but if anything it is a motivator to swim faster :) Enjoy!

After I went upstairs, there is a hall with some lounges with a view of the pool. The ticket is 4.60 there are no reduced price, only 12 times tickets for 46, but for that you need to pay a membership card for 9 euros, so it only pays off if you went for 24 times per year. Would be a motivation to keep excercise. The lockers are 20 cents without return. Also need to have the coins ready. Shower is ok. The large swimming pool is from 1.9 meters to 3meters deep. Water is really warm and clean when I was there. Doesnt have the usuall smell of disinfection as other swimming pools. Also I normally keep my eyes open under water, and this one does not cause much uncomfort to the eyes. The deepth of the pool means you have to keep swimming, there is no place to just stand and rest in the pool, so everyone does exactly that. But the bad part is that it is so crowded, like over 12people in one lane, many of them swim really slow, there is no way to pass them. This kind of disrupts my own swimming pace. And you get kicked a lot. There is also a warmer and less deep small pool. 0.4 to 1.1meter deep. Also a hotter small bubble bath for free and some message bath for 1.5 euros. It is more pricy than the other swimming pools in Amsterdam, but it is also clean and modern compare to those. Wierd that none of the swimmers have hat on, some have rediculous lang and big hair... In sum it is nice, I would definitely be more often here since I bought their 12 times tickets.

Update: after yet another encounter with a super rude employee who works at their register counter,…read moreI cannot recommend this pool anymore. Just go anywhere else if you can. The super rude employee told me their website was very clear on opening times and what pools are available when, but it is still a very bloated and confusing website that primarily focuses on their webshop and signing people up for their newsletter. Actual helpful information is very difficult to find. This resulted in me being refused entry with my 3 year old who was very much looking forward to swimming, even though the pool was open and there were adults and kids inside, but I wasn't part of a class so I couldn't go in at all, not to the hot tub, not even to the small pool downstairs that was empty. She then scoffed at me about how she has to repeat herself so many times to stupid people like me, when I was clearly panicking and figuring out what I was going to tell my child so she didn't start to cry. I had to scramble to find someplace else to swim. I wish I had saved myself the hassle and just gone somewhere else in the first place. The slight convenience of the location isn't worth it. ---- This is the closest pool to my house so it's not the best out there, but it is decent. I go here with my toddler for infant and toddler swimming 'lessons'. They aren't lessons as much as they are a teacher leading all the kids and their parents to sing in a circle and do hand or leg kicking motions together. The lessons take place in a warm shallow pool on the ground floor, so it's nice that we don't have to battle freezing water. There is also a bigger full size pool upstairs as well with lockers and changing rooms closer to the pool. The downstairs pool has dedicated locker rooms for men and women to change your clothes and store your stuff. You need a euro or 50 cents for the lockers, I forget which. In the smaller pool, or instructiebad, they have floating plastic toys available, so the kids can play with stuff and you don't have to bring your own. The only bad experiences I've had are with a certain instructor. Some have been nice but one has been very mean and unprofessional. The first time I was there I was the last adult in the pool with my toddler, and when the instructor was done teaching the senior aerobics class that takes place after the children's classes, she asked me to pick up all the pool toys and put them in the milk crate at the side of the pool. At first I was confused and just said yes, and then after I started picking the toys up I realized that this was a lifeguard who just asked me to leave my child's side in the water to pick up toys, so I could do her job for her! Not leaving your child's side is the #1 rule of child water safety, so that made me all full of WTF. On subsequent occasions she has told me that I should take my toddler to the classes for 2.5 year olds in the big pool upstairs, even though my child is not 2.5 years old yet. So I don't know what her beef is, but she's annoying. Every time I go there I hope I don't have to deal with her. More tips: - If you take your child here I recommend getting them some water shoes or something to give their feet some grip, because the floors can be slippery by the instructiebad. - You can spend all morning in the instructiebad, so if you come for a half hour lesson you can easily stay for 2.5 hours. It helps you feel like you're getting your money's worth. - Also you can get a free 'proefles' or try-out lesson if you check out their website and fill out a form. Otherwise it costs 6 euros per visit. - They also have a loyalty card where you get one stamp per visit, and after 10 visits you get some kiddie floaties or something equally cheap and silly. - They have a snack bar which I haven't tried, but they advertise low-fat fries and other healthy things. - If you want to take your child to the upstairs/main pool, they require that they wear arm floaties, even though that is not recommended by modern pool safety standards.

We heard quite a crowd inside with lots of children noises, and were afraid that it maybe crowded. However, it was pleasant. The pools were big enough to hold all the people with still plenty rooms to feel chill. There were a deep big pool, a small shallow one and one tiny pot for baby. Water was clear and chill. We had no problem with toilets and lockers and changing rooms, there are enough of them. Except there was not really shower after the swim. Also love the grassfield. Soft could walk bare feet and lay under the sun.

I think it's because on a warm day there are thousands of people coming through here, and they don't clean the facilities all day. Plus there is no soap in the bathrooms. So by the end of the day the changing stalls are wet and grimy from dirt and grass and razors and used bloody pads on the floor, the pools are full of sand and leaves and who knows what diaper stuff, and you can't even wash your hands because there is no soap. And then you have to eat fries from the concession stand with dirty pool hands. After spending an afternoon here I felt hot and grimy and sticky and just wanted to take a shower. Add in the long wait for food since they only have 1 concession stand for all these people and it's a good approximation of what it's like to be poor. You're hot, dirty, and starving. On the other hand, kids seem to like it. They don't sell swim diapers or anything, so be sure to bring water toys and everything else you'll need. I recommend bringing pool slippers or wearing water friendly sandals because the sidewalks have lots of grit and dirt coming off of them, and the big bouncy cushion is surrounded by fine sand that loves to stick to your feet. On a slightly cooler day this place is a ghost town. They say their pool is heated but that is a lie. My little girl was shivering in 71F/21C degree weather because the water was so cold. They also didn't have the wading pool open, which might have been warmer because it's more shallow. On days like this the concession stand people just decide not to work. If you want food you have to go next door to the Zeeburg campground and enjoy their bread, cheese and ramen noodles. On the plus side, the entrance fee is cheap, and it's one of the few places in Amsterdam you can splash around outside in really hot weather. Their grassy area is nice, and the drinks and Popsicles are somewhat cheap and plentiful.

Sloterpark is a great place to go if your looking for a mental break or more of an intimate atmosphere to revive. You can unwind here and connect back to nature, by taking a stroll through the shaded footpaths or relax on the bench and enjoy the cool breeze of Amsterdam. We cycle through here sometimes when we are visiting friends on the west side. This park is ideal for the people who live in the community or for those who happen to be in the neck of the woods. Make sure to walk around the neighborhood and you will discover some lovely residential neighborhood streets, just tucked away in this quiet community. You can also sail, canoe, and fish in Sloter Lake. If you have a hobby for catching fish, then this area is popular to go fishing.

It was a beautiful summer day and I wanted to go to the beach without paying for the train. So we ended up in Sloterpark and its mini-beach. I really liked the park atmosphere with the grass and trees (for needed shade) but with an area with the sand and water. Everyone was enjoying the sunshine on this day. Some were laying out and getting tan, some kids were running from the sand to the water squealing because the water was so cool, then laughing and running back. Some people put up mini tents to help with the shade (especially for the little ones). Others were kicking a soccer ball around with their parents. It is the perfect setting for simply enjoying life. There are canoe and stuff like that to rent, but I didn't go there to check it out. Whether you are allowed to or not (I know there's a city website for that information), people were using mini BBQ grills that made the whole area smell amazing. There was even an ice cream truck that made the rounds. If you walk past the whole beach area, there's a quiet spot that's quite a good size overlooking the lake. I think it would be the perfect spot for a group of friends or a romantic picnic.
