Sloterpark is a great place to go if your looking for a mental break or more of an intimate atmosphere to revive. You can unwind here and connect back to nature, by taking a stroll through the shaded footpaths or relax on the bench and enjoy the cool breeze of Amsterdam. We cycle through here sometimes when we are visiting friends on the west side. This park is ideal for the people who live in the community or for those who happen to be in the neck of the woods. Make sure to walk around the neighborhood and you will discover some lovely residential neighborhood streets, just tucked away in this quiet community. You can also sail, canoe, and fish in Sloter Lake. If you have a hobby for catching fish, then this area is popular to go fishing.

It was a beautiful summer day and I wanted to go to the beach without paying for the train. So we ended up in Sloterpark and its mini-beach. I really liked the park atmosphere with the grass and trees (for needed shade) but with an area with the sand and water. Everyone was enjoying the sunshine on this day. Some were laying out and getting tan, some kids were running from the sand to the water squealing because the water was so cool, then laughing and running back. Some people put up mini tents to help with the shade (especially for the little ones). Others were kicking a soccer ball around with their parents. It is the perfect setting for simply enjoying life. There are canoe and stuff like that to rent, but I didn't go there to check it out. Whether you are allowed to or not (I know there's a city website for that information), people were using mini BBQ grills that made the whole area smell amazing. There was even an ice cream truck that made the rounds. If you walk past the whole beach area, there's a quiet spot that's quite a good size overlooking the lake. I think it would be the perfect spot for a group of friends or a romantic picnic.

She's not a professional swimmer but she can swim. This is while other people of her age were doggy paddling and swimming with similar level of swimming skills. It was very obvious that our foreign language made her nervous and she just assumed based on her prejudices that a non dutch middle eastern woman cannot swim. When we asked another employee and manager to just watch her swim so they can see they were wrong they did not allow her to even show them she can indeed swim. Extremely humiliating and rude.

I like the electronic wristband system for getting in and out and also for the lockers. There are many many activities to choose from. I only have experience with the lane swim, but there are designated time for women swim, endurance and swim stroke training (I want to check that out), gay swim, and they also have nude swimming. Maybe doing laps in the nude makes you more efficient? Basically, it seems like whatever you are looking for they have it. The cost of a drop in lane swim is EUR 3.80. You can get a pass for 12 for EUR 38, so basically 2 passes free...not a bad deal and seems to be competitive with some of the pools further away. My only issue with this pool is the same issue I have with all pools in Holland....why why why are so many lanes dedicated to breaststroke and leisurely swim?! Where is the pool where all lanes are open to people who are training/freestyle/swim workouts? I'm not a fast swimmer by any means (I am quite). But I would like to be able to do a swim workout in a lane that is not too too slow or too too fast. Why why why are so many people doing the breaststroke?! Truth be told, if you are looking for a pool where you can get some good swimming in (and, leisure swimming, too!) Het Marnix will suit you just fine. You may just end up in a lane with fit Dutch men that are faster than you, but if anything it is a motivator to swim faster :) Enjoy!

We heard quite a crowd inside with lots of children noises, and were afraid that it maybe crowded. However, it was pleasant. The pools were big enough to hold all the people with still plenty rooms to feel chill. There were a deep big pool, a small shallow one and one tiny pot for baby. Water was clear and chill. We had no problem with toilets and lockers and changing rooms, there are enough of them. Except there was not really shower after the swim. Also love the grassfield. Soft could walk bare feet and lay under the sun.

I think it's because on a warm day there are thousands of people coming through here, and they don't clean the facilities all day. Plus there is no soap in the bathrooms. So by the end of the day the changing stalls are wet and grimy from dirt and grass and razors and used bloody pads on the floor, the pools are full of sand and leaves and who knows what diaper stuff, and you can't even wash your hands because there is no soap. And then you have to eat fries from the concession stand with dirty pool hands. After spending an afternoon here I felt hot and grimy and sticky and just wanted to take a shower. Add in the long wait for food since they only have 1 concession stand for all these people and it's a good approximation of what it's like to be poor. You're hot, dirty, and starving. On the other hand, kids seem to like it. They don't sell swim diapers or anything, so be sure to bring water toys and everything else you'll need. I recommend bringing pool slippers or wearing water friendly sandals because the sidewalks have lots of grit and dirt coming off of them, and the big bouncy cushion is surrounded by fine sand that loves to stick to your feet. On a slightly cooler day this place is a ghost town. They say their pool is heated but that is a lie. My little girl was shivering in 71F/21C degree weather because the water was so cold. They also didn't have the wading pool open, which might have been warmer because it's more shallow. On days like this the concession stand people just decide not to work. If you want food you have to go next door to the Zeeburg campground and enjoy their bread, cheese and ramen noodles. On the plus side, the entrance fee is cheap, and it's one of the few places in Amsterdam you can splash around outside in really hot weather. Their grassy area is nice, and the drinks and Popsicles are somewhat cheap and plentiful.
