Global Wildlife Center - A giraffe

    Global Wildlife Center

    (151 reviews)

This is one of my favorite places in the world…read more I have been to the Global Wildlife Center lots of times and it is consistently awesome. The animals are well taken care of and the staff is always fun and knowledgeable. Our tour guide (I think her name was Sonora?) was very nice and went out of her way to make sure we got to spend time with all of the animals we wanted to see. Couple of tips. First off, spring for the private or semi-private tour. You have more freedoms to roam around the park and it's definitely worth the extra cost. Second, no matter how much animal food you get, you will wish you had more. The highlight of the tour is feeding the animals and you will not want to disappoint them! Third, they have added some new attractions in the last few years that look awesome but we didn't get a chance to do them. There's a kangaroo walkabout and a capybara experience, both looked really cool. Finally, they are offering a "painting" by the animals. You add food coloring to a canvas and the animals "paint" with their mouths while they eat. It was absolutely worth it!

The…read moreconductor and employees working with the wagons and animal feed buckets and lines were humorous and considerate. There was plenty of space for observation among the people in each wagon. Warnings were given adequately about behavior of the animals and expectations of communication with the variety of animals. I might add there was easy access for Seniors, handicapped, and young children which was excellent! No steps to climb. Ramps were available to all riders. Live music was also pleasant and provided by a guitarist while waiting our turn to board. I'm sorry I have no names of the musician singing or the Southeastern students accompanying our excursion. All were incredibly entertaining. I recommend to pregnant moms also for a fun-filled Mother's Day next weekend. My two year old grandaughter was thrilled as were her daddy, mommy and MiMi!

They also host other events like- a berry bash, summer camp, farmer trade day, pancakes and pjs, and ties and tiaras. I visited for Halloween in 2018 when my son was about 10 months old and had a great day! They had a pumpkin patch, face painting, pumpkin carving, a costume contest, a corn maze, a petting zoo, a jumping area for the older kids, and so much more to see! Then staff were friendly and there was plenty of parking. They also have an elegant space for weddings/receptions. It is truly an enjoyable experience for the entire family.

When we got there, there was plenty of parking and very easy to find (thanks to signs along the way). Everything was organized from the get go. Several other schools were there, but they had plenty of workers to keep things running smoothly. I wanted to share their mission statement I found on the website because I agree they are doing this: "Mission Statement To provide an educational, "hands on" learning adventure for families and organizations of all ages. To spread the love of the land and animals to all our guests both big and small, and instill the importance of keeping the American Agricultural values alive. To provide a professional, clean environment with emphasis on safety and dignity for both our guests and our animals." Liuzza was definitely hands on and educational. I especially loved all the fun facts signs around, and in general the setup was simple with chalkboard and burlap but so cute and creative. Definitely knew we were at a farm, but it was just more cute than rough and rigid. The animals seemed happy, the strawberries were delicious and plentiful for the picking! I loved the bus tour and mule-drawn trailer ride but could have honestly loved if they had told us more about the land and the history. Such a beautiful and well kept up place though! I was so surprised to see that they do weddings here! A beautiful outdoor area was set up for a wedding and there's the most precious, little chapel! Definitely a romantic setting for a wedding!! I would just love to be a guest for one here! I hope to be able to return on the open to the public days or even a special occasion like their Easter egg hunt. We were there for probably only 3 hours but definitely could have stayed longer. We fed goats, saw a zebra eating among all the horses, saw cows, an alpaca, a sheep, geese, but we managed to miss the pigs and bunnies. Must go back for those! The kids went crazy over the awesome slide built into a hill and the big jumpy thing (don't know what those are called lol). We definitely must return and so should you!!

I love that she knew all their names and personality traits. The otter swim was amazing! The guides told us they love the color yellow, so if anyone goes try and wear yellow or bring a yellow towel you don't mind sacrificing to the otters to dry off and bite!

Our tour guide D was amazing and really made the experience so enjoyable. There was a mixed bag of kids and adults but the group was roughly 20 people total. This is definitely a great activity for people of all ages. There is walking involved and going slightly down on downward slopes; it can get hot too, just to keep in mind. The weather the day we went was wonderful - sunny & high-60°s/low 70°s. D was so knowledgeable and added great humor to the tour, his personality was overall super great. Plus! He was our otter-swim guide too and was just as great during the swim. There's several animals that you'll have the opportunity to meet and learn so much about. D, our tour guide, also ensured everyone had enough time to observe the different animals and that the kids had their fun before moving onto the next animal. I will note, I believe the animals included on the Wild Discovery tour are different than the animals you'll see on the Safari Wagon Adventure tour. But I believe the animals we saw were just as great. Just think about what animals you'd like to see most and ask which tour would be best. From what it seems, most of the larger animals are on the safari tour (i. e. zebras, ostrich, camels, and cattle). On our Wild Adventure Tour we saw kangaroos, capybaras, and Eurasian Lynx - to name a few. Looking back I would've have liked to know the animals vary by tour type. This is kind-of communicated on their website, but I feel you have to know to look at all available activities and compare. Which is more my error than theirs! Just wanted others to know as I didn't think of this. I would've added the safari tour had I known! The otter swim is only available with the Wild Discovery tour (the safari tour is very affordable, so to add onto the swim package would be ideal - I'd ask but I'm sure that's do-able!) The otter swim was so great too! The pool (in February) was cold at first but the body acclimates to the temp quickly. The pools are temperature controlled so it's not freezing and unbearable - just cold at first. And that's more so because it was the beginning of February. I imagine in the summertime the water is amazing. The swim lasts for an hour and our party was small (4 total people), so that was plenty of time for our otter to explore the strangers in his pool area. Afterwards, we got time to dry off and have the lil guy dry off with us. My sister loves otters so this was a great opportunity! Lastly, Check-in was easy & finding the place was easy as well!

A lot of old exhibits have been refreshed and they have added new ones. The signage and graphics and educational materials are all bright and fresh (and educational!). The animals seem to be happy and well kept. The staff we talked to were enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed what they were doing. This is a fun little zoo with a nice collection of animals. I was blown away by the giraffe exhibit. There is a little flock of flamingos that I could just stand and watch for hours, and the prairie dog exhibit is too cute for words. Go and see for yourself. Be aware they are not open on Mondays. This has caught me a number of times on Monday holidays (Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc.) when I had a day off work and was looking for something to do. Sorry, no zoo today! They are open every other day of the week. The zoo is open from 10-4 and this is plenty of time to see everything. There is food and a splash pad and a carousel and a train to ride. This is all fun, but for me a zoo is all about the animals. This little zoo does not disappoint.
