Pretty much was a place to store our stuff. We renewed the lease and they had upped the rent which is normal. They decided to make a kitchen update that we did not ask for and this was to be done while we lived there so our kitchen was down for a month. Not only was our kitchen down but our whole living room since everything was pushed up against the walls and covered in plastic to avoid dust or anything else. We were told that the workers would be working while we were gone at work and on several occasions they were still there for hours after we got home. All in all the kitchen was nice to have after it was done but no compromises or deal was made that since they would have our kitchen torn up for a month and that we would have to eat out more that they would take a hundred off rent or something. Next after a year of living there black mold was growing heavily in the bathroom since there was a wooden window in the shower that didn't open and there was no vent either. We had put in several work orders for it and nothing was being done. After 2 months of being told a new window is being ordered I called more sternly and it apparently never got ordered. Finally, after three months they replaced the window and pretty sure just painted over the mold. The new window allowed for us to open a small portion and get air flow. That helped with the mold problem but it was always an ongoing thing. We would scrub with bleach and other cleaning supplies but still it would come back. Either way I had gone to the Doctor earlier that year for headaches, dizziness and sneezing...turns out it was Sinusitis. This can come from dirty or moldy environments (Our bathroom). I was treated for this with antibiotics and having moved am better and don't get this off and on like I use to. Lastly my roommate and I got new jobs and significant others and asked if we could work with them to move out earlier than our lease. They seemed fine at first then they flipped a switch. They would show the apartment and not even contact me to tell me they would be entering. They found someone to rent the apartment for June 1st and we would be out April 30th. They told me it was all good to move out April 30th but now are telling me after I moved out that May rent is due and that I can move back in if I want for that month. Even though they are doing more updates ripping up the flooring and such then the next tenant wanted to move in a week or two early since that would help her get into this new apartment and out of her old they are stating they are taking all of the security deposit and its because rent is due. Having said they would work with us and everything was falling into place we thought everything was fine. Except now they stated we need to pay for all of May rent and to keep the electric on for them (while they work). Chelsea in the office is horrible at communicating and will play games like only contacting one tenant. She never contacted me until she wanted to inform me that May rent is now due but never for any other updates. In the entire time we lived there we never were late on rent and kept the apartment in great shape and were polite to them. They are money hungry and are very rude to the younger crowd. As far as we know they are taking are full security deposits even though they should only be taking $400.00 for a fee for ending our lease early. Office staff does not know what they are doing and the owner Joel will side with it since its more money he can have to update his properties.Take my advice stay away and rent through another company. I am just glad to be done with them. I have lived in Milwaukee for 8+ years and this is by far the worst landlord I have had.

She had us by the short and curlies for months. If you have any emotions or mental health issues don't rent from Hofman. They discriminate. She tried to kick us out in the winter and then succeeded in the summer WITHOUT talking to us. Just sent us a letter. I understand we were not perfect but the neighbors made it worse and she went with what they said and wrote down. We lived there for four years and dealt with a lot of bullshit and we were fine until the last year and a half when lovely Laura showed up. Oh... ALSO- if you rented B.F ( before Laura) you will not get your security deposit back. Or, if you do it will be peanuts. We were blamed for things that were not our fault. The screen door had been broken for 4 years. The screen? Broken since we moved in. It got knocked off by the WIND and had to be " fixed" many times. We were told it was from abuse because we were terrible people. We also got dinged for the fridge having a dent in it which had a dent when we moved in because the maintenance had done it moving it in. That is what were told. Oh- We were dinged for The kitchen cabinet falling off. What do you expect when you use the wrong screws? However since the last manager did not do their job we have no record of the issues that were present when we moved in. There were some issues that I totally agree with that we should have to pay for but some of it is just them not wanting to give your money back because they are scammers and slumlords. Oh! My car was stolen and our other car was almost stolen: drug deals go down in the parking lot or in front of the apartment daily. 10/10 do not recommend. Fuck these guys

Will be filing a small claims case. Through out the 3 years living there I have lost heat in the winter multiple times and during the coldest days of the year. They gave us a space heater the first time after I made multiple complaints but took it back, which didn't help because I continued to lose heat on and off for the 3 winters I lived there. And 3 months prior to moving out my AC stopped working and he also ghosted me on that. The place also has an ant and centipede problem. Multiple times homeless people broke in and loitered hallways and front entry area, was doing drugs and twice broke the glass side entry doors. Had to call the police multiple times about this. Packages were getting stolen and the landlord refused to up cameras or do anything about it. Because of people attempting to break in the front door the lock was constantly broken or not working and you were unable to use the front door for weeks at a time. There's drug deals happening in the parking lot often and had to call the police about that as well. There's also people who loiter and do drugs in the parking lot, near the dumpster, and yard area. I have photos to prove all of these claims. They never shovel the snow or salt the communal walkways. And plowing is hit or miss. I have never been late with my rent payments and left the apartment in great condition upon moving out. And after all I dealt with for the past 3 years they are ghosting me on returning my deposit.

Norm helped me for several months look for duplexes that fit the bill in Riverwest, Eastside, and Bayview. We first chatted for a while to get an idea of what I was looking for and the budget - he is very easy to talk to. After we got that, he set me up with an MLS automatic listing so I would be emailed the detailed info (way more detailed than Zillow or Trulia) about various places that include pictures, taxes, etc. I would email or call him on what places I would like to see and right away he would have a schedule of places we would see in a day or two. Norm always picks up the phone no matter what day it is or the time and is always willing to talk to you about whatever it may be. He used to be (may still be) an Inspector so when it came to walking through duplexes he knew what areas were big concerns and what were small issues. He could even roughly estimate how much or at least point you in the direction of an expert to get an estimate. Norm also performs Energy Audits so he will know how energy efficient various appliances and the house are. He is very patient as it took around 5 months of seeing places with my girlfriend and brother to finally find the right place. When the time came to make the offer, he drafted up the paperwork right away. He is very detailed on all of his paperwork and it made closing way easier. We went through with some offers and got an accepted offer. He was able to provide several inspectors to get when it came to that point after the accepted offer. Overall, Norm is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to single and multi-family units throughout Milwaukee, knows how to spot issues in places, and is very friendly and responsive on both the calls and emails. I would highly recommend him when it is time for you to look for a place.

I would HIGHLY recommend him if you are looking to buy a rental property. He owned close to 50 properties in the area, especially in the brady-street area. He knows his stuff and can give great advice if you are new to managing properties. All in all, he's a really great guy. He really represents what Milwaukee is all about. He supports local neighborhoods and works with you to find the best property to suit all of your needs.

Fast forward 2 weeks and we get an eviction notice for ONE missing payment, which I'm sure I dropped off. I contact them a few times because you're never able to talk to someone right away (they don't answer the phone) and they are adamant that they never received the check. A few weeks go by, after paying for it again, and I get a call from the receptionist saying a cleaner found my missing check under the accountant's (kiera) desk. This was not the first time they lost our payment OR the last. When we moved out they sent what was left of our security deposit to our old apartment. The one we just rented from them; the one we just moved out of. They had at least one forwarding address on file but that doesn't matter because how does this make any sense at all? My roommate and I both moved out of Milwaukee, so it was a process trying to contact both the USPS and Eastmore. We finally received our deposit almost 3 months after moving out. They took nearly 70% of our security deposit to pay for "painting/cleaning" and "large item removal." There was nothing left in our apartment and we SCRUBBED that place. Also, after living there for so long, isn't paint considered normal wear and tear? Obviously we didn't fight it as we're tired of dealing with this for so long. Don't rent from Eastmore, they don't care about their tenants and will do everything possible to get money from you.

As we were walking through Suzanne asked, "is it yours to sell?" I thought how odd a question. I couldnt help but wonder does she ask all her clients that question? She also stated she would take a 5.5 % sellers commission instead of the customary 6%. I didn't think much of it until a few weeks after signing the listing agreement that she indeed was charging 6% and not the 5.5% she had promised. During the initial meeting she said she wouldn't be putting her agency sign outside because more and more homeowners were making that choice for privacy. I thought it sounded a little odd but this being my first time selling a home I didn't question it. None the less the second it sold there was a sign planted in the front yard. I had just purchased a new Samsung washer and dryer a few months prior and I had them listed as an exclusion in the sale, however I was forced to leave them when I moved. Unfortunately the refrigerator had a maintenance issue while the condo was listed and I could have spent $200 and had it repaired and all would have been good but again was forced to give the buyer a $2500 credit. Gretchen is nothing more than a bully and a thug and will say or do anything without any consideration for honesty to get what she wants. She accepted a low ball offer without consulting me and set up 2 closings, a closing for me alone and another for the buyers so we wouldn't meet, how insulting. While taking care of some final touchups before an open house one of Suzannes employees was lending a hand and started talking about Trump's stolen election and she couldn't understand why we couldn't agree with her. However, it was a disaster from the first week on. In spite of this place being seemingly nice, it is the WORST place that I have ever lived, and that includes apartments I rented during graduate school. Mosaic on Oakland is not managed as a luxury apartment should be. There might as well be no management. Noise: For one year I documented ongoing noise from the unit above me with no resolution. This was not walking noise (which is often audible due to the poor construction), but stomping, playing ball, running, etc. They do not enforce the lease or their rules consistently. The noise occurred at all hours and was not standard apartment noise. Garage: The garage stinks, and the garbage room of a restaurant was often left open. After I sent them photos, they said they are working with the restaurant, nothing changed. There was open garbage where we paid a fortune to park our cars. Are rodents are next? Different Rules: My final move out date was hell. The janitor yelled at me and told me "time out" (great way to treat luxury apartment residents) because he said 'shady people' will come in if we open a door. It took a male (my fiancé) to quiet him down and to get him to stop going off on me. Others residents were allowed to open a door when moving out, but I was not. My fiancé had to physically stand at the door for the entire move. One of the moving crew felt uncomfortable because he was being racially profiled as 'letting these shady people in.' The movers told me they hope to never have to deal with Mosaic on Oakland again. Closing: They only refunded me half my security deposit. The apartment was clean (I have photos), but at this point half of my security deposit is a minor waste compared to a year of torture in this overpriced and poorly constructed place.
