I alerted the waitress who took it back only after passive aggressively implying that I had somehow channeled the dead fly into the pizza myself. When the waitress brought a new one, she continued her crazy behavior and said that I just wanted another pizza on top of the slice I had eaten from the first before I saw the dead fly. I told her to bill me for two pizzas if she was convinced I planted the fly. I've lived in the neighborhood for years, eaten there many times and surely won't return after this. read more

Went here with a couple of friends and each got our own pizza. I ordered the spianata, which was spicy salami with stracciatella cheese on top. It was incredibly tasty! The creamy cheese balanced out the spice and acidity of the salami and tomato sauce. I would highly recommend ordering this pizza as well as some others and sharing if you go with friends or family, just because this pizza was very rich. All in all delicious though. read more

We ordered the buffalina pizza for 10€. The dough is in its typical napoletana style with slight crust ok the bottom. The dough lacked a bit in flavor but overall a decent pizza. We liked Zola more than W pizza and zeroStress pizza. However when comparing it standard pizza in Prenzlauer Berg, standard definitely wins just though their dough. The service at Zola was not the friendliest. Overall decent pizza but nothing for us to become a regular customer for. read more

I've been to Zola a number of times and always have the same problem whenever I return: what should I order this time? Their complete menu, written on a chalkboard, is not extensive by any means, but the choices that are available all cause my mouth to water making it difficult for me to make up my mind. Inevitably I often choose one that I haven't tried. And I haven't been disappointed by a single pizza yet! All pizzas I've ordered have been extremely flavorful and have some of the best fluffy, tasty, and chewy pizza crusts with minimal charring that I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. The rustic space inside the restaurant also provides a nice vibe and atmosphere, with a few tables looking directly into the wonderful kitchen where the pizzaiolos are quickly crafting your order before placing it in the wood-fired oven for a mere minute and a half. Zola is definitely my first choice in Berlin and quite simply a favorite of mine for excellent Neapolitan pizzas anywhere. read more

Way to Zola is not the easiest thing to hit the same door of the restaurant, but do not be discouraged, because I think it is worth. Raw and stylish design with this very nice music behind. Generally is here a small local exhibitions, which unfortunately takes a lot of space for guests, which is a pity, because a lot of people just give up. Pizza is baked for 90 seconds at 450 degrees from the oven specially imported from Naples. I love such elements in restaurant. They serve absolutely the best tomato sauce and amazing mozzarella Buratta on pizza, which to me is absolutely the number one Italian mozzarella. The absolute MUST EAT! Service - I had the impression that the waitress is doing more confusion than the customers themselves. I recommend the next time her just stop for a moment, take a few breaths and move on. Summarizing: Do not be afraid that the large number of guests you will die of hunger before you get pizza - served an express. The big downside on cold days is that people waiting for a table looks to you to fork and you can not feel at ease. Quick serving food and standing over you next client, creates delicious fast food - eat and run away, because others are waiting. It's a shame, because I did not feel the atmosphere of the Italian fiesta. I will definitely go back, but before I do reservations. read more

The pizza was fine but kind of soggy. I enjoyed the ambiance and the food was okay, but the reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because the service was abismal. The waitress that seemed like the head one was friendly and attentive after you flagged her down, but the other waitress was incredibly unfriendly and bad at her job. She took a while to respond to requests and did so in a negative and unfriendly way. I'm surprised this restaurant does not have new staff considering all the bad reviews about its service. read more

The pizzas were absolutely delicious. We got the Parma and bufalino which were both perfect. The sauce was tasty and there was just the right amount of cheese. The service was good and the pizza came within minutes of ordering. The outdoor seating area was quite spacious and cute. There was plenty of indoor seating as well. The bathrooms were clean. Prices were very reasonable. I would 100% go back. They advertised homemade tiramisu which I wanted to try but we skipped dessert. I would definitely get it next time. read more

I read the reviews on here before deciding to go and thought it was worth eating there since the negative reviews were old. I wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt especially given that I am a fan of Neapolitan pizza. First, the pizza. I knocked one star off - while in principle all of the ingredients were there in practice it didn't amount to a well-executed pizza. I know Berlin's pizza offerings aren't amazing so I wanted to take that into account. But...like others I found it to be quite soggy in the middle. Not sure if it was too much sauce but the effect was the same. The flavors were OK but nothing amazing. The biggest problem was the service - minus two stars for that. I thought perhaps those that gave negative reviews were encountering someone on an off night. I promise I came to Zola with an open mind. I was surprised when the service was as bad as if not worse than was described. While it was busy by no means was the restaurant full. First issue was that it wasn't clear who was the server. Sometimes the host was taking orders, sometimes others. As they're community tables you could be sitting across from a stranger who is being helped by someone other than the person who is helping you. Which is fine if you're getting help but this wasn't the case. Once I was seated and given a menu that was when the battle for service began. I was going to write a long, dramatic and entitled-sounding post about everything that went wrong, but it is easier to just say that I felt like I had to beg for my food, beg for my drink, beg for my check, and even then found that the check wasn't right, likely due to the vague reasons for different people involved through the process. If I sound like a curmudgeon I can tell you the experience was the same with everyone else that was at my table. With the great and diverse options that Berlin (and Kreuzberg) have for dining, I wouldn't waste your time and money here, unfortunately. read more

We loved it. I'm traveling with my mom, and we don't speak much German. The staff was very helpful, the prices were great, the menu was easy, the ambiance was very chill, and the pizza was delicious. We shared one Margherita pizza, and that was the perfect size for the two of us. We were both very hungry, but didn't want to stuff ourselves before walking the city. The neighbourhood is dreadful. Lots of homeless people on the street and people selling drugs. The pizza itself is ok, but very chewy and the dough looks like rubber. But by far the worse is the service. It took at least 30 minutes for the waitress to take the order and for the payment I stayed another 10 waiting for someone to show up. read more

Hands down, this is one of the best pizza places in Berlin. It took me a while to gather enough motivation to look behind the kinda generic hipster branding here, but the quality of the pizza convinced me. The tomato base is juicy and chunky and the pizza is perfectly baked, aromatic and tasty. The quality of the ingredients seems to be good as well. The pizza wasn't hand tossed as you would expect from a place specifically advertising traditional pizza from Napoli but that didn't really bother me. Give it a try. read more

I went to Zola with a group of friends last weekend after deciding that we didn't want to wait in line to attend an event at Markthalle Neun. The way people write about this place, we were expecting to have to wait to be seated here as well, but to our surprise we got a table for four as soon as we walked in the door. So yay. But down to what really matters: the pizza. We split the Zola special, with walnuts, pears and gorgonzola, the buffalina and the margherita. What makes Neapolitan pizza so special is the crust; it should be so flavorful that you could eat it without any toppings. I thought the texture of the crust at Zola was great, but it was just kind of...bland, which had to be remedied by dipping it in some of the olive oil on the table. The center of the buffalina was soggy because of the melted cheese and tomato sauce, which I found a bit too sweet, and I would have loved for there to have been a pie with tons of arugula on the menu - perhaps I overlooked one? Probably my favorite of the three was the Zola special - the walnuts added a lovely crunch and the gorgonzola wasn't overwhelming, but it kind of reinforces what I said about the blandish crust, considering what I found to be the most flavorful pizza option needed these pungent ingredients to register with my tastebuds. While the pizza here is certainly not bad - and importantly, comes out hot and fast - I don't know if the quality level, price point or even ambience are so good that they could sway me to choose Zola over my friendly pizza kiosk guy on the corner. read more

Zola used to be one of my favourite places to have Pizza in Xberg, but after this visit I would neither go there again nor recommend it to anyone. I took my father to Zola to have Pizza tonight. We entered the place in a good mood and waited in the entrance area with our masks on until we were ranted at by the waitress to wait outside in the rain due to corona. While her tone was not appropriate, it is of course understandable that it is better to wait outside in these times. We were then guided to a table a couple of minutes after. When we ordered, the waitress was extremely pushy and stressed - questions regarding options were not answered. The waitress just pointed at the menu, as if she wanted us to understand "its all in there - just read". My dad has quite an accent in German and difficulties to understand, so he ordered a little bit slowly. The waitress frowned, rolled her eyes and finally took off, as if we had waisted her time. The pizzas were burned from the below and did not taste as good as other times because of that. The tip of the iceberg was the finale when we wanted to pay. The waitress brought the cheque and after she did not return for 10 mins we went to pay at the front desk. When we arrived she almost shouted at us and sent us back to our table, pointing into that direction with ehr index finger - we should go back and wait for her to come and get the money, as it was not possible to pay in the front. She said this in such a disrespectful and rude way that both my dad and I asked her to be more friendly, which got her even more upset. We made our way back to the table. She rushed by, picked up the money, with no words of sorry. I have never in my life had such a bad experience at a restaurant and would neither recommend it nor return. read more

Very stylish place (industrial style, many tourists) with atmosphere, in a perfect location (Ufer). You might spend there a nice evening with (hipsters) friends. I'm a big fan of wood-fired pizza ovens (who isn't!), and there aren't so many of these in Berlin that strive for an Italian-style pizza. So I had high hopes for Zola. Overall I really liked the environment, the decor, and the waitress was very friendly and cool. We were seated at a decent table without a reservation, and this is a good place to eat with friends. My rating for this place hovers between a two and a three - I've gone with a two because I feel they let themselves down in a pretty obvious and avoidable way - the ingredients. Firstly, the pizza base was good, and the wood-oven gives a nice effect with slightly charred crust. However, the impression was that the ingredients used were not great quality. I ordered a parmigiano topped pizza, but the cheese was very chewy and not piquant - the opposite of what you'd expect. Did they skimp on the price of using proper parmagiano? That's a classic method of cutting costs in the food industry, and it tasted that way, which in my book is unforgivable for an Italian-styled pizza joint. Overall the flavour was not exciting and pretty bland, which I can only put down to low-quality ingredients. Overhaul the ingredient selection and you'd have a highly enjoyable place. Until then, I'd recommend giving it a miss and heading to a restaurant - such as Serious Standard in Mitte or Parma in Wedding - where the quality of ingredients is at the fore. read more
