This people are trying to extort money out of people. I have 102 hours to complete, I did well on their assessment test and then they turned around and told me I had to take 200 more hours than I needed. It's ridiculous. By the state I only need a certain amount of hours but because they "can" they extort money out of people to get more. There was actually no reason for it after the assessment test besides "because I said so". In my eyes it's bullshit and extortion. read more

My review is based on my experience going through enrollment into the Barber Program-- thought I ultimately decided not to attend this school after giving it more thought which I'll share below: Was pretty settled on wanting to attend this school given it had a 1,000 hour barber program, was in Los Angeles which is where I reside, and the FT day schedule of M-TH morning classes I was looking forward to having 3 day weekends as I got through what I was excited for a swift 8 months. Set up an appointment for enrollment was advised to bring a list of documents which I did, and the logistical process of the intake was done and didn't have any alarming parts of the process. STAFF: -Not friendly, at all. You'd think that as a business the team would have much more or any energy at all to welcome any and every potential student so as to transfer that excitement into engagement for their students and school environment. I was met with a front desk associate who appeared either tired, in a bad mood, or both-- very monotone voice and ZMS academy has no dress code enforced for students or staff so it was very casual all around and not foster integrity in appearance and professionalism by way of presentation of team. - The woman coordinating the enrollment paperwork and otherwise seemed nice but was literally speaking the least possible, and again not conveying excitement or driving engagement between me and the school-- not personable and awkward as I got through the process. NO PARKING LOT: -this school in on a BUSY street and has no parking lot, having to deal with morning and afternoon traffic in exponential inconvenience per a school not having a parking lot I knew would just be a nightmare. School appearance otherwise wasn't inspiring, they're statistics if graduate passing rate and otherwise were also all really low. read more

So to say the owner does not want the instructors there that is a lie she has classes every day of the week barbers from Monday to Thursday day and night! and estheticians also. Everyone works hard especially teaching adults and if teaching kids is hard imagine teaching adults that think they know everything like my self. My experience at ZMS was absolutely amazing! I recently just graduated from the manicurist program this month. I had two teachers Ms.Naomi and Ms.shahla who were both very patient and helpful! I liked how they both specialized in two different things. Ms. shahla taught me so much about disinfection control and was always on top of making sure we understood the process! Very grateful for her to have been apart of my experience! By her giving us real life scenarios and showing us was extremely helpful because I'm such a visual person.Before starting school I knew not much about the whole disinfecting process. And Ms. Naomi taught me so many different techniques when it came to design and acrylic application! Very thankful she was always hands on and checking in with how we were progressing. I was really looking forward to starting the cosmetology program with ZMS until I was in a car accident and asked if I could reschedule my appointment for enrollment. I still had five days prior to my start day that I could have come if they had been understanding and let me reschedule. Being in the car accident was very unexpected and although another driver was at fault and their insurance eventually provided a rental car, it wasn't in time for my appointment for enrollment. I tried to call to explain the situation but no one answered or even gave me a callback afterwards. I had to call again and when I explained the situation to the receptionist she said the director of the program had decided to give my spot to someone else. I understand the need of filling the program but changing my appointment for enrollment to a day later wouldn't have changed my start date. But what did was them because she said they were apparently going to try to have me start the day of my appointment for enrollment without even consulting with me to see if I was available after the appointment to start classes 2-10pm. The way the whole situation was handled was just very off putting, disappointing and frustrating. I can't say much about the school or the program, but the impression I have of the school, the director and the receptionist... has just made me realize maybe it was a good thing that it didn't work out there and that I want to be at a school where they understand life circumstances always in our control and they will try to accommodate with the student because it's about helping them learn from the program and better their life, not about the money the program brings in. Needless to say, even though I was told the next round of the program would start December, I am no longer interested in going to this school and will be looking elsewhere to help me achieve my dreams. read more

Friendly staff and friendly environment. Basically these are students training to become professionals. I have a friend who is studying to become a barber here and he highly recommend me getting my haircut here. His name is Marlo and he has done a great job on my son's and boyfriend's haircut. I asked if they also cut women's hair and low and behold they do so I finally had the guts to go get a haircut by students. As for me, I am very reluctant on getting my hair cut by just anybody. But I trust my friend and I'm glad I did. Arpi was very friendly and she was awesome. My haircut came out really good. I liked her so much that I asked if she can dye my hair. First I asked what she recommends. She recommended getting bleached highlights since I wanted to go medium blonde. So of course I went with her best judgment and came back the next day to get the highlights. Although, it did take 4 hours I love the results. I'm coming back to put toner in my hair. Will update more on the results. I extremely recommend this place. It's affordable, staff are friendly, teachers are always present to help the students when in need and they are there to shape their students into professionals. I recommend going to Arpi because she is great and gentle of what you want. But if you need a fade or barber cut then go to Marlo or Marlo. Yes that's right there are 2 Marlos that go to school here and they are both good. We will definitely be back. read more

Honestly disregard the bad review here, it's not even accurate. I'm currently enrolled in the esthetician program, and I'm about mid-way or so. This is an amazing school and God knows it's hard to find a program that's truly worth the money. There's a reason beauty professionals will often say they learned nothing in school and just got through it to get licensed. Countless other students have talked about how they didn't go to or had to leave other schools because the instructors weren't good or there were no machines (or they were barely functioning). Miss Judy is on top of the new trends and tech. They just added a second floor with more machines (EMS, red light therapies, you name it). She is incredibly generous with so many things, you end up getting so many more products beyond just what you get in the kit. She doesn't just prep you for the state board exam, she also gives you business tips. I don't agree with the characterization of Judy in that negative review, or at least that's never been my experience with her. I think she's just zero bullshit, and maybe people aren't used to that. I personally appreciate it. I think she's very warm and shows interest in you both personally and professionally. She's motivating and encouraging, which isn't always the case with instructors. The girls at this school are great, and it's such a fun, supportive learning environment. Lab is so fun because you get to play and experience all these treatments you would normally have to pay $$$ to get if you weren't a student at this school. It's a great place to bring clients to for practice and building your portfolio. The instructors make it very clear your ability to pass the state board is on you, and you have to be studying. That being said, they definitely provide all the tools you need to feel ready. I am very thankful to have gone with this school after all the time I spent researching other programs, and I highly recommend it. You learn SO much, and Miss Judy brings in a lot of amazing people to give demos on different things (Bodysculpting, lashes, etc), and she encourages you to find the things you love and go all in. I could go on, I really have so many good things to say but basically, you will not regret going to this school. The entire focus of the Academy is for you as a student to actually be hands-on and learn exactly what you're going to be doing in your career. All of the programs, Aesthetician & Barber & Cosmo & Permanent Makeup, service the public every day - other schools are more focused on practicing passing CA State Board EVERY DAY (the test you have to take to get your license), but it's a waste of time; you learn this thoroughly a month away from your exam date, and ZMS has a really high passing rate. I enrolled in this school's esthetician program and was THOROUGHLY PLEASED. I just took my state board practical and written exam on Wednesday and was licensed! And I was noticeably more prepared than the other students I was testing with.
