Upon entry, a host gave me a menu a cup of pasta crisps and offered me a seat. This was the highlight of my experience. Sadly, I'm unable to rate the food as I was seated and forgot about. After 30+ minutes of sitting, looking around for someone to place an order and watching others seated, orders taken drinks arriving. I asked the people seated at the table next to me if I was supposed to order at the bar. They suggested I try the QR code ordering on the menu. Ok. I'll give it a go. I scanned the QR code, entered the table number on the bottle at the table and received a message stating invalid table number. Hmmm, Let me try again. Confirming Table 12 try again. Same result. Thus, I'm unable to rate the Pinot noir I wished to order to accompany my Pinoli pizza. It's also worth nothing they were NOT extremely busy. There were plenty of servers walking around. Another great Zizzi. Going to any of the Zizzi restaurants is always and easy, friendly experience. They have really good pasta, pizza and salads, and they cater extremely well for children (kid sized cutlery, abundance of high chairs, and a kids menu). We are vegetarian and love the Mezzo E Mezzo pizza, Clarissa calzone, Spaghetti Pomodoro, Super salad, Tricolore salad, and the beetroot, artichoke and goats cheese salad that it on their current special's menu. They are also extremely happy to adapt the kids menu, and will add veggies to our toddler's margherita pizza. I really like Zizzis restaurant, it is very similar to Pizza Express and Ask, but I think that's because they are owned by the same group of people. If you love Italian food, you will love this restaurant! Their pizzas are delicious and there is a good variety of toppings. They are not too expensive either, normally costing around the £9 mark. I have only tried their pasta dishes once, and did not enjoy that quite as much, but it was still tasty. The atmosphere is very stylish and sophisticated, but you still feel relaxed in there, and they wouldn't turn their nose up if you went in in jeans and a baggy jumper (like some classy restaurants). Their prices are very reasonable, and a meal for one normally costs around £12-15 depending on whether you have starters or desserts as well (by the way, the desserts are to die for!). I would definitely recommend giving this restaurant a go, particularly at the moment (Nov 2008) as there are a lot of 2-1 offers on for it. read more

Visited St Albans recently to see a friend and she picked here for our dinner. I'm newly gluten free, so having looked up the menu in advance I was happy to see quite a few gluten free options. I ordered a mixed veggie antipasti starter that was very tasty and served on a board, grilled artichoke, aubergine, peppers, sundried tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, all drizzled liberally with good olive oil, garlic and fresh basil. It is usually served with dough sticks which i declined, although I'm sure they could provide a gluten free alternative! I fancied a pizza but was a bit miffed to discover the gluten free pizza bases were limited only to 5 "classic" toppings, I cannot understand why they won't agree to have the "rustica" variety on a gluten free base! I wanted the "Sofia" and I was told to order a gluten free margarita and add the Sofia toppings!!! At £1.20 per topping this made for an expensive pizza so I just had pepperoni with roquito peppers. The pizza itself - topping tasty - base the consistency of uncooked lasagne sheets and inedible in places. I left half of it behind. I hope this is not an indicator of what gluten free pizzas are like in general!! My friend had calamari which she said were not great, the Sofia pizza which looked delicious (and soft!!) and a lemon meringue sunday which was seriously good. Dessert redeemed itself for me - a sundae of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, banana, toffee sauce and sugared peanuts. Simple but gorgeous. Zizzi's restaurant is located in the centre of St Albans. The nearest car park is located in Christopher Place where there are lifts which make access easy. I last went to Zizzis at a lunchtime with a group of mums and their 1 year old children and the staff were very accommodating of us while also being mindful of other patrons and giving us an area to ourselves. The food (Italian pizza pasta etc) was good and I'd be happy to go again either for lunch or a less formal dinner. The decor is modern. The food in the restaurant is very similar to Pizza Express, good, modern, tasty. read more

As chain restaurants go, Zizzi is not bad. The branch in St Albans is large and always very busy at the weekends. We often had to queue around 10 minutes for a table, or put our names on a list and go for a quick half nearby. Considering the size and bustle, service was always good. The Pizza's were good, nice thin crusts and I always found the Calzone hard to finish. My friend who often used to suggest we eat here, always praised the pasta dishes, with the crayfish fettucine a firm favourite. Good Italian fare! Located in the centre of St Albans, Zizzi is a decent place to go for some Italian food. Although we went as a group and the experience we had with the food was not all that. Pizza's where rock hard, thin and crusty but hard! Difficult to eat and lack of taste. Service was not that great, with some of us getting food early while others waiting for a long time. read more

We got 2 for 1 through vouchercodes.co.uk so went for my 15 yr old son's birthday. Perfect for a family with children that age. It was reasonably priced and we had plenty to eat, even brought some home in pizza boxes which they kindly offered us. The Calzone was just as I hoped. This might not be your genuine Italian restaurant but for a good mid-priced pizza and Peronni it's hard to beat. The waiter was very grateful for a cash tip and we'll definitely be going again. For a chain restaurant, it is top notch. The prices are reasonable and a good menu. The ravioli was really nice, better than most places I have had here in England. My all time fav is the garlic bread with balsamic and cheese. If you have room for dessert you must try the lemon sorbet. Tangy and a cold treat that will transport to Italy!
