Avoid Zips Car Wash - Clemmons, NC - Shady Tactics & Terrible Experience I had a terrible experience at the Zips Car Wash in Clemmons, NC. When I pulled up, an attendant immediately asked for my credit card to scan on an iPad, while another pushed me about signing up for a membership. I told them I wasn't comfortable handing over my card and asked if the payment machine worked--they said yes. So I used the machine as I preferred. After I paid, the attendant refused to open the gate, saying he was busy and would "get to me in a second." I waited 10 minutes, watching him assist only those agreeing to memberships and letting them skip the line. The rest of us--who declined--were left sitting and waiting. Eventually, I got fed up and asked to be let out of the line. I left without the wash I paid for, and no refund was offered. I later realized this seems to be a pattern at this location--pressure customers into handing over their card for a "discount" and steer them toward memberships. If you decline, they delay or deny service. I called Zips customer service, and while they said a manager would call back, no one ever did. This kind of behavior is predatory and unprofessional. Forcing people to hand over cards, delaying service for those who don't comply, and refusing refunds is a terrible way to run a business. Zip's Car Wash stripped the paint off my Chrysler Pacifica Van on Sept 9 at the Clemmons location. We drove home and immediately saw it and drove back to show the manager and file a claim. In October we had heard nothing, went back and filed another claim. Now, Nov 3 I get an email saying that they are not responsible because I cannot prove the damage was not there when we drove through their car wash. No, I did not have pre-damage and I have multiple witnesses to that. I went back to the car wash and was rudely treated by the manager and his associate. I filed a complaint with the BBB and I will do the same with the Clemmons Chamber of Commerce, and I will be vocal about the abuse of staff and their equipment on my van. Having a sign as you enter the car wash that they are not responsible for pre-damage does not absolve Zip's Car Wash from the liability of damage to vehicles that was not there when the customer drove through. The manager said I cannot prove the damage was not already there, but obviously I can. He says there videos show people driving through. I hope they have those videos when I take them to court for damages. I see online other people are having the same damage and issues. Very disappointed that carwash was not more proactive given the weather issues we had the last 2 weeks. We tried to get a wash several times to remove the salt and all the yucky stuff on the roads that will damage a car if not removed....only to find that the car wash was closed. In a world of technology and wonderful weather forecasting, they could have purchased heated hoses, propane heaters that can safely be used in the bay to keep it toasty through the night. Kerosene heaters are also very safe. We live in North Carolina...not Michigan or Alaska, for goodness sake. Temps below freezing are still considered fairly rare. Be a good community service leader and allow folks another month of service added to there 3 month package It's the right thing to do. I'll let everyone knows if this happens, one way or another. Very disappointed today when I came through zips. It was rather crowded and I pulled all the way up and the last spots near the front were being used by employees. This wouldn't be so bad except it's so crowded and backing up is difficult. The towel station is unattended and people who needed towels had to go alert the attendant. When I went to the door there 3 employees inside. With 3 people on the clock there should be no time a customer is left in need of anything. read more

I am writing this on be half of my husband who thought he was doing a good deed. If I could give Zips carwash in Clemmons, NC a negative rating I would. They have deceptive practices and mislead customers into purchasing a membership at one price then not notify them that it will be increased. I was told it was $10 a month and the guy said it would help him out. So I said sure. He had me sign a pad however there was nothing on it.... just a spot for me to sign. A sticker was affixed to my windshield and that was it. I said, hey if it helps the guy out might as well as I only bring my truck maybe once or twice a year to get washed. One year later my wife is going over charges on this bank account which we hardly use and saw a charge for $45 and asked what it was. I had no clue... she investigated and said it was Zips. I said yeah, I signed up for $10 a month membership she told me I was charged one month at $10 and the rest at $45. A year later, we are discovering we have been scammed into a higher membership with no notification. She called Customer Service and was told that they would refund the money for the times I did not use the carwash and forward it to refund department and that the agent "Jay" is cancelling my membership effective today and to remove to sticker from my windshield. She said I would receive confirmation in email. I certainly did get confirmation stating that I would NOT be getting a refund due to NOT FOLLOWING their cancellation policy which I was not informed of by the agent. When you call customer service there is an option to press for cancellation and for representative. Since I had a complaint I selected this one and spoke with Jay on 6/23/25. I was not informed of a cancellation policy nor how it would effect a refund request prior to her doing so. The email I received stated that this decision is final and cannot be reversed. I am so infuriated with their business practices that if they could scam me a Retired Disabled Army Veteran (Paralegal) that they could do it to anyone and from my research it seems they have. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, will be notifying the Disable Veterans Association, the Veterans Administration, Military One Source and all military routes I can in hope that other veterans, soldiers or families do not get scammed this way. I have never in my life been spoken to like this much less by a person in a business or person in customer service. I have been a loyal customer of this location since they opened-- dare I say this has been about 3 years now?! So monthly I have been giving them my money. I have never once asked questions or given any grief. Today I visit and use the mat cleaner. I do have rubber mats but no where on the machine does it say "cloth only". First mat-- great. Second mat, gets stuck. I go inside and politely tell the attendant "Hey I think my mat might be stuck " and here's where things go down hill. He speaks to me in such a demeaning manner--tells me this is for "cloth only", tells me "to just step away", "not to touch anything", and all while huffing/eye rolling constantly. After a few tugs and pulls of the stuck car mat, He goes on to tell me "You're just going to have to come back because I'm not able to deal with this right now" and walks away. I'm left there not sure what to do next. He does come back to the eventually but only to put a "CLOTH ONLY" sign at the machine. I go inside and wait until he has a moment so that I can leave my information. I also suggested maybe an out of order sign so that my mat doesn't get ruined any further that it already may be. He doesn't seem to take this suggestion seriously. Again the way I was spoken to and dismissed made me leave this place of business with my car unfinished and just simply shaken. Apparently people still have not learned how to treat the human race. Yes I am female but I can read and I do know how to operate machinery-- there was no sign prior to me using it. Also after I left, I proceeded to google the mat cleaner in question and wouldn't you know if WAS for cloth AND rubber mats. SO maybe next time MR CARWASH ATTENDANT YOU would like to place the blame and frustration on the machine itself and apologize to me for any inconvenience your machinery has caused your paying customer. I went to get a car wash and the guy there talked me into getting the monthly wash for the same price if $10 for the Month. When I asked what the cancellation is on this he said just cancel before the renewal date. I went there 5 days before the renewal date and someone there apparently cancelled it. I get a $35 charge on my card the day after the renewal date. I Goto complain and they apparently cannot refund me my money unless I go through corporate office. So I call and after 3 tries I finally get a human. And she sends my refund request to someone else and they will get back with me she says. Not happy about this but ok. I get a email saying they cannot refund my money as their policy says cancellations have to made a week before the renewal date. This isn't what I was told. Terrible customer service and this is how they get you . Never will I give zips my money again ! read more

Paid for the $15 wash and it was a waste. Several spots on the car weren't even touched. The $15 supposedly included some kind of tire treatment, but my tires were left looking splotchy and weird. There was one attendant there who sprayed 3 sides of my car with some kind of hose thing, I guess the right hand side doesn't get hosed? Or it was too far to walk? The vacuums aren't useful either, they just have bare heads with no agitation attachments so they end up attaching themselves to the carpets and you can't easily brush the vacuum across them. The first time I had their monthly membership, it was pretty easy to cancel, even though you did have to call customer service. I waited several months and decided to join again. I have had this service for over 6 months and decided we needed to cut back - especially bc my card had declined due to funds being insufficient. I called and stated as much to go ahead and cancel, but they have a new policy that they cannot cancel your membership without paying in full owed membership fees, even though my card had just been declined and I couldn't use the service for this month anyway. This was my first use of Zips Car Wash. When I drove in there were very few cars there (I know now why). I paid for the $25.00 car wash. I understand you can't see the effects of some of the benefits to the more expensive washes but I could see that the tires had only been half done. In other words only half of the radius of the tires had been cleaned and sprayed with tire shine. If they clean up their act and I see more people frequenting the business, maybe I'll give it another try. But! They're going to have to a lot better on price too. They are much too expensive for what you get. I usually go to The Wave Car Wash at 1535 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston because it is close to where I work. It is a very popular car wash. read more

Came back and first vacuum i touched didn't work, WOW! Wash was iffy at best, attention to amenity's are very lacking. While convenience is becoming too easy, I would highly recommend NOT going to Zips Car Wash. I've always been the type of person that hand washes a car with the double bucket method, but due to a recent relocation thought I'd save 3-4 hours every weekend to spend more time with my family. However, after having my less than 2-month-old vehicle damaged at this location I can say finding an alternative solution would be best. During my visit at this location, in Clemmons, I heard a large scrape approximately halfway through the car-wash. Upon exiting the car-wash to detail my wheels and vacuum the interior I found one large scratch and many smaller scratches (swirls) on the rear driver's side wheel. The manager, Josh, contacted me back for the damage claim three days later to say they were not going to cover any damages and that my claim had been denied. Josh stated there is nothing in their car-wash that would cause such damage to a wheel in the location that was damaged. As I said, my car is practically brand new. I had spare time in between picking up food and getting coffee and so decided to get the car washed even the weather showed rain in the forecast. The car wash was fast the vacuums were readily available. There's window cleaner available. Only complaint is the price, the automatic car wash costs $8 for a basic wash. Howecer, zips cost $10 for a basic wash. The cloth they provide to wipe your car and the window cleaner somewhat makes up for this price difference. read more

Female employee ran up to my car and yelled very hatefully and angerily at me after I had pulled up from the gate and threatened to cancel my membership the gate sensor had not worked at first and she said something about how the sensors do not always work. I felt very threatened and did not appreciate the anger in her voice and the hateful way that she treated me as a customer I should not be treated hatefully but at least in a nice manner and should not be threatened by a regular employee threatening to cancel my membership just because she was upset with me I will definitely cancel my membership now for sure the employees are a major problem with their threatening attitudes and anger issues towards customers they are there to serve and be nice to the customers if they have an issue they can do so without threatening and being hateful and angered at loyal customers. with no lowering of price or even notice - they have stopped providing towels, cleaning sprays to spruce up the outside where the wash didnt get all the bird droppings and road tar. Spent $38 for a month of "unlimited ultimate washes" knowing I had to do the interior, and was really pissed to find out that didnt even include cleaning supplies etc any more. When I discovered the change in what is provided, I went inside, there is a small sign in the window that they no longer provide towels, the worker flippantly replied that ya, they should post a sign outside before the victim pays, but in a way that it was obvious it wouldn't happen. They are nonresponsive when you try to cancel, it took three attempts - and months of continuing to be charged - before it was finally (somewhat) resolved. When I brought it to the attention of staff I was told the district manager was out of town and would contact me. I repeatedly called and left messages only to be ghosted. I didn'T hear anything back until I reported to the BBB. Even then I was given the run around and still no resolution. There is a lot of finger pointing on who will take care of my issue. We have a Zips membership for our white SUV but also used the wash for our dark red sedan, prior to putting it up for sale. After it went thru the wash, I was drying the car off and clearly saw on the dark red paint, new marks and swirls across the hood and on the side of the car. I pointed it out to the car wash attendant and as he and I were discussing and taking pictures of my car, another person said hey, my car was just damaged in this car wash - can I talk to you next? I asked the attendant if I was wasting my time to file a damage claim or if they ever take responsibility?He said "we've had others with same complaint, and I took pictures of the damage you can tell is fresh so we can submit claim form." I also took pics. So yes, they did respond - a few weeks later I got a call from Josh who said they could tell from their cameras - inside the wash - that all the damage was already on my car when I entered the wash. The car wash had an issue at the end of the track. I stopped to inform one of the attendants. He told me the maintenance person just left and thought it was fixed. Well it wasn't and they are running the risk of damaging somebody's car. After wash pulled into the vaccine area, the trash cans were running over and trash was blowing every where. I have the monthly membership. If you wash your car twice a month, you are already paying the monthly price. I go every Saturday morning. They have followed the guidelines given due to Covid19 restrictions as far as possible. The staff is helpful and thorough with the bug and tar pre-soak application. I travel many highway miles each week and their service keeps my car looking great. The tire cleaner requires you wipe down your wheels, but you are just wiping off excess product. I have no issue with the actual product like the other reviewers on this site. Thankfully the few times that I used Zips to wash my car I was pleased with the job they did. The facility is clean, so no issues there. My concern comes only from their billing tactics and complete lack of customer service. I do not live in the area, but I did purchase the unlimited wash package for a family member when I was in town, and was happy to pay the monthly charge. After about a year, the family member wasn't using enough to justify continuing the charge, and I attempted to cancel. Boy, you would think I was asking someone for their right eye. I get it that I'm the fool thinking that any faceless behemoth is going to make it easy, but the complete lack of communication, the refusal to answer emails, and the complete lack of a phone number to speak with someone is extremely frustrating.
