Popped in for some yoga while I was in town for Christmas…read more.... My bf and I wanted to introduce his mom to yoga as a Christmas gift....you know the kind of gift that keeps on giving :) She's never done yoga before....(I'm a yoga instructor and my bf is intermediate/advanced).......and we thought it would be nice to actually take her to a class so she would feel more comfortable and know what to expect. We chose this studio after looking at a couple of different ones in the area on-line......it looked the most professional and from the bios on-line, the instructors were the most experienced. Since it was over the holidays.....class schedule was limited.....and the only reasonable option was the Beginner Flow class on Saturday.....so off we went to get all bendy stretchy.... Cute little one room studio.....I spied a couple of changing rooms in the back.....and there is of course a bench to sit down and remove shoes, store personal items etc...Mats, props and blankets were all available for student use. They only open the studio about 5 minutes before a class starts.....which on the day we were there caused a back-up of students signing-in, paying & filling out paper work so class started a little bit late and there obviously wasn't any time to stretch out and relax before class. As for the actual class.....I thought it had a nice flow.....and the instructor was very sweet but I wouldn't say that this was a good class for beginners. There was a lot of standing poses and a lot of backbending which is fine if you're going to give a modified option for beginners/level 1 students but in this case there wasn't. The other thing that I thought was really uncool was that the instructor kept calling out my bf's mom in class and verbally correcting her by name loudly enough for the whole class to hear.....again, appreciate the help.....but when you have a student in class that is new to yoga they already feel a little bit awkward and bringing attention to that doesn't really help. After class both the instructor and the owner were extremely nice and spent time with my bf's mom to speak to her about her issues and help her feel more comfortable.....which I really appreciated. They ended up recommending a couple of class options that would be more on par with her ability and we ended up buying her a class package to use. Overall.....I think this is a good option for yoga in San Antonio.....and I will be back on my next visit to try some of the more advanced classes......

There's lots of formats offered here so this isn't an all inclusive review but I didn't love this class in particular as I felt a good majority of it was adding and/or changing props or getting instruction for what was happening. However, at the end we were told about a lot of other classes coming up that sounded different so I won't eliminate trying something else in the future.

If you are new, well into or a long practicing yogi, you will love it here! I've taken classes from almost all the instructors and I love them all. So sincere in their practice, kindness and attention. I've never felt so welcome as I do at Laurel Grace. The space is on the intimate side, holding 12 comfortably, 14-16 extra cozily. Several gorgeous lotus murals by a local artist add a creative vibe. All the instructors are very experienced, offering alternative poses for any who need them. Several offer aromatherapy as part of the practice, which is such a treat. There are also special classes, like the Nidra sleep and sound bath, couples as well as others. Lots of cool yoga merch too. When we are in New Braunfels, I go 5 days a week. Hips aching? Anxiety flaring up? This will right your ship. It did mine. I wish I could bring this studio home with me to Michigan for the rest of my year. I miss it terribly! Go, they have all the things you need, mats, blankets, bolsters, blocks and straps. You'll see what a gem this yoga studio is, and totally understand why I hesitated to leave my review!
