They did the brand proud and my burger was cooked well, with plenty of the toppings I requested (they use HP sauce instead of A1 sauce, BTW). The fries were seasoned a bit less than the US shops we've been in, but the quantity was about the same. You can order via the machine, so if your French is not awesome (or non-existent like mine), you don't have to worry. They do announce the order numbers in French, but will fall back to English if they get no takers and have confused people grouped around the pick up counter. For train station food, it was hard to beat.

There was no telling when we'd be able to board our train due to the Customs strike, so we were looking for something that would "stick to the ribs", so to speak. This place fit the bill perfectly. It was located in the train station, not far from our gate. The service was prompt. The food was fast, fresh, and filling. I ordered a cheeseburger and it was just as good as the Five Guys back home in DC. Ditto for the fries. The chocolate banana milkshake I had was excellent! Best of all, that lunch lasted well through the 4+ hour long wait it took for us to finally get the hell out of France. I can only imagine how much worse things would have been if I were hungry.

This was actually two restaurants in one, selling Middle Eastern food, burgers, and chicken (under the name Chicken House). Ordering was done at the counter and the food was delivered to our table. It's a simple setup with basic tables and chairs and not much room to maneuver between them. I chose a grilled lamb kebab and my companion ordered a mixed chicken platter. The lamb was decent, although a little on the dry side. It had good flavour and included rice, fries, and a salad. The chicken platter consisted of a drumstick, thigh, a couple of battered strips, a few wings, and fries. Everything was fried and it all tasted the same. Bland. It definitely lacked some seasoning. This is not what I imagined my first meal in Paris to be but we chose it. At least it wasn't fast food. But almost.

I had the beef bourguignon pita, which was incredibly tender and flavorful. The pita is soft and fresh. I topped it all off with all three available sauces (tahini, tomato, and green pepper, I think), and they all worked well together with the tender beef and soft pita. Take some time to prepare your last bite -- my pita had a good concentration of sauces soaked into it, and a bit of beef left, so my last bite was the perfect ratio of beef, soft pita, and sauce. Yum. The cauliflower here was a bit softer than the one we received at the other branch, and while I preferred it a little less cooked, it was still delicious, and we demolished it. We also got an order of falafel which came with four pieces, and various pickles and onions to eat it with. This is an excellent place to stop in for lunch if you're in the neighborhood. Even if you aren't, this is a short walk from République. I'd happily come back.

When I saw that they were only a 15 mins walk away from my hotel, I decided to make the trek over here for dinner. This location is in the Le Marais neighborhood, which is quite a lively area with plenty of intriguing restaurants. Everything on the menu looked pretty delicious, but I decided to stick with my original pick, the salmon pastrami sandwich. The salmon pastrami sandwich (15 euro) was very delicious, each bite was super satisfying. The sandwich includes pastrami style smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomatoes, capers, and olive oil. If you love salmon, you'll certainly love this! Homer has a diner and fast food atmosphere with a concept and branding that is appealing. The prices are a little expensive, but I can confirm that the food was pretty good. If you're looking for a casual food experience while in Paris, give them a try!

It's a small place, although with enough seats next door to the cashier to sit down and enjoy your meal. I ordered the original ("poutine Montréal") and was told to wait a few minutes for the cheese curds to melt a bit. Although I was starving, I was glad that I waited-- makes the food all the more appetizing! Taste was solid-- super hearty and generous portions of cheese curds. I did find that the gravy wasn't so hot, which unfortunately didn't melt the cheese curds too much. Cheese curds themselves had that right "squeeky" bite, which demonstrates good cheese curds. The fries were a bit unlike what I'd expected from other poutines I've tried (i.e. darker, not as crispy as others), but altogether a decent poutine in France. Service was efficient and friendly. Portions were well-enough for one person, so it's especially good if you come hungry! Worth checking out while in Paris. :)

One of my passion projects is paying my old friend Ronald McDonald a visit in different countries…read more I've been to a McDonalds in Vietnam, Japan, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc. We weren't planning to go during this Paris trip, but nothing other than Au Pied De Cochon was open late, and we hit that earlier. I'll spare you the details, but it really didn't inspire me. On our last night at 1:13am in Paris, the Golden Arches were there like a lighthouse in a storm. We walked in with a bottle of red wine, ordered a small feast on the little touch screen, and walked upstairs to take a seat. We got a 20 piece nuggets (obviously), a couple hamburgers, large fries, a McCrispy for the plot, and 2 Mcflurrys. I ask one question to you, my dear reader, is anything in life as consistent as a McDonalds 20 piece nuggets? They just don't miss. Between crisp bites of these golden nuggets dunked in a black pepper sauce that we don't have in the states, I got a little sentimental. Nothing has seen me in every stage of my life like a 20 piece nug has. They've been there for me between games of middle school basketball tournaments, they were there at my absolute lowest when my first girlfriend shattered my heart into a million pieces, and they were there in the bed of a truck in Palos Verdes when me and my homies were enjoying our last days in our hometown before heading off to our respective colleges. They've seen my professional career go from production to accounting to real estate brokerage to tech sales. They've seen me pick up and put down countless hobbies: basketball, guitar, writing, a kombucha company, drums, video production, a podcast, voice lessons, making food videos, etc. If everything else in life is changing, the 20 piece nuggets are always the same. They have seen every iteration of who I am as a man, and for that, I am grateful. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo
