We, (my husband and I) entered the store and the clerk looked up and said "Hello Sir". ...Okay, well maybe he didn't see me. We went into the humidor and the clerk hovered over us and advised we couldn't touch or smell the cigars. They are all sealed in plastic! I'm certainly not going to buy a cigar that is rock hard, you have to feel them. And we certainly aren't going to try and steal them and shove them down our shirts while he's standing right there! Good Grief! We actually did pick some cigars that we had purchased in the past and liked. They cost over $500. I paid with my credit card. The clerk bagged up the cigars, handed them over to me without looking in my direction. As we walked out the door he said "Thank You Sir". ...Okay, that's just down right rude! I turned and replied, "Perhaps you should thank the person who paid!". We won't be back. I had the best cigar shop experience ever. I will and would recommend that everyone patronize this shop. I contacted the shop via email to help me pick out some cigars for my boyfriend. I have no real cigars knowledge and Joseph's recommends were perfect. I got so many "girlfriend brownie points" for the cigars and the presentation was immaculate. I wanted to give my boyfriend a special gift that didn't included cupcakes for valentines and Joseph definitely helped me nail it. Stopped in the shop while I was in Calgary for a few days to visit my sister. Being from US, this was a highly anticipated part of my itinerary, as it was my first opportunity ever to walk into a humidor stocked with Cuban cigars! I did my research prior to my trip, so the high Canadian taxes on tobacco were not a surprise, and my intent was to hunt down some special sticks that would be difficult to source elsewhere. Joseph immediately went to work asking all the right questions on what my humidor already had, and what I was after. A box of Canadian regionals was first in the cart. Then he pointed out a real gem - H Upmann #2 Reserva Cosecha. I was going to grab a few singles out of the remaining 8 in a box, when he said he'd give me the box discount if I take the whole enchilada. So glad he did that. I just had one last night and it was beyond my expectations, wow! Thanks Joseph! These guys know their craft and are super helpful. And they've got some real gems. I do not know the difference between a $300 cigar and a $30 cigar. So, when I am needing to purchase a cigar for someone who is quite experienced in all that goes into smoking a cigar, I come here and do not have to worry about my purchase. The staff are all very polite and helpful, I never feel pressured to purchase a cigar priced out of my budget, and never suggested a cigar without a thorough explanation. (Which comes in handy after the gift has been opened and I attempt to impress with a minimal amount of information that I actually absorbed..) Zigarren allegedly has the largest walk in Humidor in Canada, they have a huge selection of course but the prices are average to high with not much between the other walk in cigar shops nearby. The staff are friendly and helpful with some good knowledge of everything cigar related. Overall an excellent selection, the only thing stopping this place getting 5 stars is the prices! read more

They are knowledgeable and have a great selection. Always happy to help steer you to a great cigar in your budget. The only criticism I have is that I suspect they don't control their humidification quite as well as they should. Every cigar I have purchased from them canoed. If it were only one brand that did it, I'd blame the roll or tobacco, but having had all of them canoe, I suspect it's because of uneven humidification. read more

Want to feel like a criminal? Step into this store. I had a good friend visit me in Calgary over the weekend whom I haven't seen in years. We both enjoy smoking cigars so we dropped into Zigarren cigar shop. When we entered the store I quickly picked up the 25 bundle which I always purchase there, the bundle was taken from my hands almost immediately because they don't like you handling anything. Don't dare touch a cigar in this store even if it is plastic wrapped, you will be asked to put it down immediately. My friend was browsing around looking for his usual brand of cigar, he naturally drifted away and left the first room entering the second room, we were now split up. This must be code red in the store, 2 shoppers in 2 different locations. Joseph Moon (owner?) came back to my side of the store and said I couldn't stay in that room any longer because I was by myself. I just gave the guy a bundle of cigars for me to purchase, now I was no longer allowed to stay in room by myself, are you FKM? Good location and very nice humidor that is well stocked. Two issues out of their control - Cuban rollers need to stop overfilling cigars and taxes. Did you know that most cigars are taxed at the maximum rate of $8 PER STICK! I picked up a nice Partagas Maduro - smooth and creamy as promised. For these two reasons I will continue to purchase gars when I travel outside Canada. read more

While they might not have the largest selection of house blends, or a large area committed to pipes, they do treat pipe smokers extremely well. I'm not much of a smoker anymore but when I did smoke pipes I use to go to Sheffield & Sons in Chinook Mall. This Asian fellow owned it (forgot his name) and he was great. Most friendly person I've ever met behind a counter. Well he sold it and sure enough he opened up Zigarren. I didn't know he owned this place until I walked in one day and he recognized me....goes to show he values his customers! I hadn't seen this guy in a few years! I was looking for a pipe lighter, and the staff recommended one for me, which I took a risk and bought. It has turned out to be marvellous, since I am left-handed and smoke outside in the wind and extreme temperatures, (thanks to the government oppression of freedoms in Alberta).
