As we are bad tourists with poor command of Italian, the friendly servers translated the entire daily specials menu into English for us. They brought us a tasting of their house bread and impossibly rich olive oil, which we downed greedily.
The homemade tortellini pasta was outstanding. The succulent chicken was well complemented by a thick lemon-ginger sauce, and the tri-tip was seasoned to perfection. Wine pours were generous. All dishes were very reasonably priced.
I hesitated to try the tiramisu, worrying it would be the first letdown of the meal. It did not disappoint. With an artisanal mound of cocoa topping and a generous base of liquor, it was probably the best tiramisu I've had.
This dinner made us regret leaving Italy all the more. I never expected to voluntarily plan a trip to Ciampino, but this place would bring us back.
