Great selection on the $5 rack outside and sharp eye for all the things you loved about the 80's!

My partner and I popped into Village Merchants on a whim -- and honestly, it turned out to be a…read moregreat little adventure. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how much stuff there was to look at. It's a big, sprawling thrift/consignment shop full of clothes, home stuff, accessories, shoes, random knick-knacks -- all sort of jumbled together in a way that makes browsing feel like treasure-hunting. We found ourselves drifting between aisles, poking through racks and shelves, and laughing at the weird, random stuff -- exactly the kind of spontaneous outing you want when you're with a partner and feeling casual. One review on Yelp summed it up perfectly: "This place has so much cool stuff, I had to really stop myself from buying everything lol." That's exactly how it felt -- part treasure-hunt, part nostalgia-trip, part bargain-hunting spree. What I loved about Village Merchants: * Variety: Clothes, jewelry, home goods, even old/outdoor items -- you never know what you'll find. * Budget-friendly: There were a lot of items at reasonable prices (or even "steals"), which made it fun to browse without worrying about overspending. * Good for pairs: Because there's so much to see and hunt through, it's a fun, low-pressure activity to do together. No rush, no expectations -- just exploring and chatting. Downsides / what to know: * It's easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of stuff. Half the fun is digging; half the challenge is picking what you actually want. * Not everything is "dupe-worthy": some items are random, mismatched, or just "meh." You need patience to sift through. My Verdict: Village Merchants is a surprisingly fun little escape for a budget-conscious couple who doesn't need fancy restaurants or parties -- just something chill, slightly quirky, and with a chance you'll score something cool. I'd totally go back again.

Look up, look down, look any direction and you are facing a vignette of thoughtfully selected and arranged items that look like an a Instagram photo. I had to catch my breath and slowly take it all in, then go back around for a second long, slow lap! Unlike some other vintage stores, no musky smells here, the pleasant aroma of perfumed candles tickles your senses. Stunning vintage clothing is everywhere. Carefully selected, gently worn, vintage patterns and styles the 50s, 60s, and 70s were known for immediately catch your eye. The day I was there, the dresses from the 60s and early 70s in their mod swirls of yellow, orange & lime green or fuschia, pink & white paisleys had me mesmerized. If Madmen was still in production, the female cast would shop here! There are collections of everything everywhere. Hats, handbags, boots, dresses, coats, incense, jewelry, textiles, bar ware, candles, crystals, ornaments - Workshop Vintage has it all and then some. They even have some newer items like the black leather handbag made by a local artist that I am still lusting for. Put this shop on your list of places to visit over and over again. It's a wonderful shop to experience with so many treasures to be found! In a city of vintage, Workshop Vintage totally stands out.

The only downtown was I bought a western like jacket and 2 rings... and they didn't pay attention to the price tag, as it was marked down from $76 to $62. I had already made it home before I noticed :( There's a lot to do here. Chess, photo opportunities and just tons of browsing! They have an area where you can grab coffee and some pastries & chill. Pick it up, read the tag, feel the age in your hand in the grand dusty stacks of "oldness," a hidden gem might take its stand. Classy as a Victorian clock and twice as charming, this place earns kudos for disarming. Vast selection, the best vintage in Portland! When I visit, I plan on at least 45 minutes because there is so much to see! I walk around the entire footprint then turn around and walk the other direction because different items will catch your eye. If you are seeking an occasional chair, they have so many styles and cool pieces. Wish I had room for more! They just don't make these styles anymore or of the same quality. They usually have a large selection of couches also in shades of teal, orange, avocado just like on The Brady Bunch. Even plaid, if that's your thing. And of course boomerang shaped coffee tables to complete your seating area. There are so many unique one of a kind pieces too, like an upright piano transformed into a bar. OMG, I wish I had the space for it! What I always have room for is unique bar ware and glasses and they have lots to choose from. Lots of metal and sculptural wall art which really gives a room personality especially when complimenting paintings or prints. They have a large selection of table lamps but it's the hanging pendants that I really love. Perusing this store ignites so many memories! I see items that take me back to my childhood home, pieces I haven't thought about in years. My face lights up remembering a curved side table, a Sputnik light and metal flower wall art similar to what adorned our den. Or a set of whiskey sour glasses like the ones my dad drank from, prints on pillows that are in photographs in my family album. Furniture that over years made it's way to our basement and then probably a vintage shop like Hawthorne Modern! Love, love, love this place! They moved to SE Alder but the charm, the selection, the finds are all still there!
